Should I be letting my daughter do this?

I submitted a video clip to YouTube last week of my three year old climbing the door frame. Its had a crazy response and she is enjoying the attention. I've had requests from people like good morning america to show the clip and the BBC did an interview with her today. I'm getting a little worried that she may become a bit spoilt over the whole thing or it will encourage her to do dangerous things just to get attention. I don't want to be a pushy parent but then again if its something she enjoys doing should I not encourage her?

I was just about to post that link!

Is it your daughter in the daily telegraph this morning?

EmptyCrispPackets · 26/07/2012 16:58

I saw her in the Sun today.

I don't often say YABU, but I can't honestly see what the fuss is all about.

I used to climb the door frame as a child, but on one side only, by holding on with 2 hands and using my 2 feet, if you can picture how a monkey might do it.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to put this on You Tube, or why the media seems so interested.

It just seems like the sort of thing any toddler would be able to do.

DontEatTheVolesKids · 26/07/2012 17:40

My kids have been doing that regularly since about the same age. We have loads of the same videos! Blush

Oh, and it's not a big deal.

AnnaFender · 26/07/2012 18:08

I would really not think this was unusual, me and my brother used to do this. My brother climbed a street lamppost at about the same age and dangled from the top. I am very surprised this has had so much interest. I have seen 3 different articles on it now Confused Am I missing something?

Your DD is very cute though!

I just spent two minutes searching for and watching this video...I want the two minutes of my life back.

LittleEsmeWeatherwax · 26/07/2012 19:39

BooBoo, I've just spent the last two minutes having a go.... I want my ankle back.

There must be an awful lot of people viewing the video clip and then being utterly baffled as to what the fuss is about.

I'm another one who thought all children did this. Confused

Fiendishlie · 26/07/2012 21:14

I too thought this was normal for 3 year olds. I really like your heart cushions, OP I'm a cushion freak

MarygoeZforgold · 26/07/2012 21:23

My kids have always done this [baffled]. Is it rare?

PenisVanLesbian · 26/07/2012 21:29

I used to do that so I could curl up and read in the top shelf of the walk in wardrobe. It was my favourite spot in the whole world and I spent a fair amount of my first 8 years or so up there. It's not difficult and its not dangerous Smile

TellyBug · 27/07/2012 01:49

Wouldn't do anything (else...?) with any media. There will be nothing in it for your or her so why bother.

I hate those "...and finally stories" on the news. I want actual fuckinh news please!

Anyway, cute kid.

I don't think a little kid climbing a door frame is dangerous. No more so than swinging on a swing, or climbing play equipment. Oh, the angst!

thestringcheesemassacre · 27/07/2012 07:36

I've just looked at. It's really nothing exciting.

GhouliaYelps · 27/07/2012 07:46

She is beautiful and photogenic and cute that is why she is getting coverage people! Duh...

Op she is lovely, enjoy it. I would suspect she will be asked to model v soon.

imnotmymum · 27/07/2012 07:51

I am disgusted with myself that I do not video my kids daily goings on and put on you tube what an opportunity missed for them to become "famous".
If my kids tried this (and don't all kids??) they were told to get down as it was not appropriate behavior climbing door frames

It isn't anything unusual. I must admit the idea of media coverage makes me wince. Is it for the child or the parents? Let a child just have a normal childhood. It's a slippery slope to childhood pageants (ok extreme but just why?)
