to think that I have just been robbed blind?

Popped into a little dingy hairdressers to get the kids holiday haircuts. dd(4) had two inches taken off the bottom and the hairdresser put plaits in without asking me. DS (2) had 1 inch taken off all over.

It cost me thirty pounds! Is it just me or is that excessive?

Sounds a lot, I pay £5 for Ds to have his hair cut

5inabed · 20/07/2012 13:44

You were robbed! I usually get charged £3-£4 per child!

MrsHHanssen · 20/07/2012 13:44

You were totally robbed! I pay £2 a child!

thisthreadwilloutme · 20/07/2012 13:45

Yes, you were robbed! Take mine to my hairdressers and they charge me £5 per child.

valiumredhead · 20/07/2012 13:49

£10.50 for a kid's cut here.

sugarice · 20/07/2012 13:49

£30 hell's teeth yes you were! What was your face like when she told you how much you owed, I would have screeched "how much!" with a Shock face.

valiumredhead · 20/07/2012 13:50

But tbf who goes into a hairdresser's without checking the prices first?

Mama1980 · 20/07/2012 13:51

You were robbed! costs £4 to have my ds s hair cut and he has shoulder length hair and a fringe (he's 4) and I'm in London!!

scuzy · 20/07/2012 13:51

i would have taken the plat out of your dd's hair and ask "NOW how much does it cost".

Wink
Condensedmilk · 20/07/2012 13:51

Didn't you question it at the time?

scuzy · 20/07/2012 13:51

*plait

thisthreadwilloutme · 20/07/2012 13:53

I was too shocked to question it, I had a list of things to do a mile long and figured it was too late as they already cut the hair. Lesson learnt. Ask first!

thisthreadwilloutme · 20/07/2012 13:57

Just called them to ask how much for a childs cut and it is 14.50 for a dry cut, so at least they are consistently robbing people. I bet they make a fortune off passing trade like me

I pay £5 or £6 for my DS who's in that age range so yes, you have been fleeced. Now you know to ask the price at the start!

Glamrock39 · 20/07/2012 13:59

YIKES!! I don't pay that much to get my own hair cut!

thisthreadwilloutme · 20/07/2012 14:00

Exactly Glamrock, annoyed at myself but mostly at them Grin

KittyMcAllister · 20/07/2012 14:00

Yep £6 here. They should've been wearing stripy shirts & carrying a swag bag!

Viviennemary · 20/07/2012 14:00

That is daylight robbery. I thought there was a law saying they had to display their prices. Couldn't be sure though.

thisisyesterday · 20/07/2012 14:01

no, you weren't robbed.

you should have asked the price before having it done.

thisthreadwilloutme · 20/07/2012 14:05

don't worry I will do next time thisisyesterday

Viviennemary · 20/07/2012 14:06

I tried to find out some information about this. Hairdressers don't apparently have to display their prices. But under the Sale of Goods Act they must charge a reasonable price and declare any extras. Don't think this was a reasonable price.

NumericalMum · 20/07/2012 14:08

Are you in London? That is what I pay for my DD. my hairdresser said they would charge hairdresser's normal rate as she would be spending her time and unable to cut an adult's hair.

thisthreadwilloutme · 20/07/2012 14:08

Neither do I, but I think I'm going to have to chalk this one down to experience. Like the time I had my hair cut at SAKs when I was a student many moons ago and it cost me over a hundred pounds. You would think I would have learnt by now.

Not in London - I'm in the north west.
