When someone 'shadows' us down the road?

DH & I were walking along the road today chatting, it was a quiet road with only one or two pedestrians so we were talking about fairly personal/family things.

I heard something behind me, glanced back & saw a woman just a few feet behind us, she had obviously walked fast enough to have crept up. She was easily within earshot so we broke off our conversation, slowed down a little to let her overtake but she didn't, just slowed down enough to remain 'hovering' behind us......this carried on for a few more minutes with us in silence until eventually she turned down a side road & we were rid of her.

Is it just me or is this rude? Is it too much to expect that people either overtake or drop back, thereby respecting each other's space?

Maybe when u slowed down she felt there was no point in overtaking you as she would be turning off down a side road in the not too distant future?!

I've been in this situation before and it's not the most comfortable for the 'follower' either tbh!

Whenthetoad yay, glad its not just me. I wonder if we've ever been buddies?! Shock

I also feel sad when motorway buddies exit a few junctions before me. I often lose them at junction 19 on the M1 for some reason Confused FYI I'm the one in the grey estate seat dancing & singing wildly exiting at J22...

maybe she had mental health issues.

You do sound precious. I don't see why she should have to be the one to modify her walking speed - if you were that bothered why didn't you stop walking for a minute, then she would have passed you.

I'd have stopped still and moved to one side to let her overtake me. Hate people walking behind me!
