DD2 was videod arriving into this world. DH just put the video on a speaker across the room so no indiscreet close ups of my fanjo thank you vey much. Just a bit of pacing from him, a bit of mooing from me and a wail from DD2 as she plopped out.

I love it, only me DH and the kids have seen it and the oldest 2 are a bit jealous that they don't have one but I didn't have the balls the first time and second time a bit of a hooha with an ecs.

I love it and if I had my time over would have them all videod. Especially as DS2 was lifted out in his bag of waters. All the medical staff were cooing over him and how unusual it is and I never got to see it.

I don't think it's a bad idea. I would go for straight after the birth though. My DH is terrible at taking photos & the midwives are so busy it doesn't seem fair to ask them - although the midwife did offer after DD was born and she took a lovey photo of all three of us.

TheBigJessie · 25/03/2013 09:20

I didn't let anyone take pictures of me until nearly 24 hours later, after I'd had a shower and some sleep!

During the birth? No way! Besides, there were enough people in the room already, without adding a photographer as well. Two midwives, one doctor, two paediatricians, one husband, one MIL.

TheChaoGoesMu · 25/03/2013 09:22

I wish I had got photos or a video of the birth. I think those shots look amazing.

MyFloatingShame · 25/03/2013 09:24

Good lord no

I was in theatre with a fanjo that had been sliced open, I was vomiting, surrounded by emergency staff who were ready to knock me out and do an EMCS at any moment if they couldn't get a distressed DS who was tangled in his cord out with the forceps. DH was white as a sheet and silently praying and I was crying "please get him out ok, please"

Not a kodak moment really.

I wish I had photos/record of birth, I am sad that we didn't get a pic of me and ds4 in birth pool after he was born.

I have seen some lovely birth photos and films. You can get it done professionally in an unobtrusive way and it can be lovely.

I may be partly responsible, I trained as documentary photographer at uni, after having pfb,

I did do several pregnancy/ birth projects, after the first ,I had quite a few requests, after other parents saw peoples books, and I know that other people did carry on theme, it's being going on for years,

it wasn't about having pretty portraits, It was just creating a visual story, so a lot of the portraits are graphic, but put together gives a good timeline.

I only work with people who are interested in the documentary aspect.

Bumperlicious · 25/03/2013 09:57

No, I found giving birth quite traumatic and don't want to be reminded of it. We do have some beautiful 1st photos though but DH is a photographer anyway.

pigletmania · 25/03/2013 09:58

some things should never be done and this is it!

VisualiseAHorse · 25/03/2013 10:00

I've got a gorgeous picture of immediatley after - baby still covered in gunk, I look HIGH as a kite, and OH has a true WTF/best thing ever look on his face.

It's is one of my favourite pictures of us all. No way would I want a fanjo/head shot though.

most people have watched a birth video of some sort, they now show them in schools,

a carefully done birth documentary is no different,

there are plenty of birth programs on TV,

It is one of the most amazing parts of life, of course it is interesting and worth recording if you want to.

Billiejimmy · 25/03/2013 13:59

I loved having my births photos :)
