In thinking they can sodding well drink water for the week?

I'm on holiday with the inlaws for the week Shock (no comment). Anyway, we are splitting the cost of everything 3 ways (three families, makes sense). We did a huge shop on Sunday morning (ie less than 48 hours ago) for the whole week and agreed that we would try and not buy anything else (it came to ?350).

Come this morning, DH serves himself a glass of coke and I ask if I can have a glass too, he gives me his glass saying that there's no more left Hmm . I say we'll just be drinking water for rest of the week then, queue MIL starting a new shopping list with coke at the top. I say to both DH and MIL that it's not really a basic necessity and I'm sure we don't need to go shopping again so soon for coke (knowing full well the bill will end up being another hundred ? or so). So MIL adds fruit juice and coffee to the list too.

DH is constantly nagging me about not being able to afford things, AIBU in telling him if we buy more bloody coke, I do not want to hear any more comments about not being able to afford things when we're in the chocolate isle at the supermarket Angry ?

I get the feeling some readers have taken some comments (including mine) too seriously...

I guessed that, viking

ImperialBlether · 17/07/2012 16:32

zukiecat, if I were on holiday and asked my husband (who insisted on doing the shopping) to get me a bar of chocolate, I would expect him to do as he was told!

Obviously I'm not in favour of men or women riding roughshod over each other, but ffs when you want chocolate, you want chocolate! It's not expensive, it's not beyond their reach, it's just that he was deciding on his own treats and denying her hers.

iusedtobefun2 · 17/07/2012 16:40

STOP!!!!!!!!!!
Did you just write Wasabi Lindt???
that was a joke, right?

Vixxen · 17/07/2012 16:47

I meant to add to my post that if they are getting coke, however, then yes, you should be getting chocolate. But you can't expect them to not have coke so you can have chocolate to yourself.

Glad everyone is happy now though, you have your chocolate, they have their coke and everybody has rum. That makes for a smashing time by the sounds of it :o

VikingVagine · 17/07/2012 16:51

Yes yes, wasabi chocolate!!!! It's... an acquired taste. I'm not convinced, but DH likes it. I like my wasabi in savoury things (those peas you can get in the crisp section for example, yum).

Two things:

  1. Is naice chocolate as naice as naice ham?
  2. Wasps, eh? Are you Sharon?
EdgarAllenPimms · 17/07/2012 17:13

i quite fancy trying wasabi chocolate. the salt is blardy lovely.

VikingVagine · 17/07/2012 17:59

It is not naice chocolate although I probably would be middle class if I were in the UK , and no, I am not Sharron but we still have wasps although DH has been sent to see to it .

I like the salt one too, just can't quite get my head round the wasabi stuff. SIL stuffed a square in her mouth earlier on thinking it was the mint. It was worthy of You've Been Framed.

I'd be drinking wine too to be honest but if Coke is your poison and you're on holiday then I think someone needs to go and buy some more! Grin

squeakytoy · 17/07/2012 18:05

I saw the Lindt wasabi chocolate and was not too sure, so didnt get it. However the Lindt sea salt, and the Lindt Chilli ones are gorgeous!

VikingVagine · 17/07/2012 18:24

And I think someone needs to read the whole thread before commenting.

oooh, lindt sea salt. I've only read the chocolate bits of this thread. I love salty chocolate. like chocolate covered pretzels. mmmmm.

VikingVagine · 17/07/2012 20:03

Oh my god, my life is over.

They have opened my chocolate all wrong. They didn't follow the little perforated curved line in the corner, the TORE the cardboard in all directions and pulled all the foil off.

Can I recommend making chocolate mousse with Lindt Salt Chocolate? It's totally delicious.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/07/2012 20:49

Viking you need to kill them. Now.

squeakytoy · 17/07/2012 20:52

I recommend making chilli chocolate muffins with the chilli one.. Grin

VikingVagine · 17/07/2012 20:54

I am drowning my sorrows in mojitos of which there are plenty (turns out none of them drink rum either). I'm not sure I can bring myself to kill them, would be quite a strenuous effort (I had trouble getting off my deck chair, remember?).
