DP wanting to cut the grass?

FadingAwayToAHippo · 16/07/2012 08:39

Probably yes but he's not doing it!

DP is just finishing his last nightshift of 3. He doesn't go to bed after his last nightshift, his choice as he then can't sleep at night.

I have been suffering horrendously with my hayfever over past few weeks, had about 9 hours sleep over 4 days.

I cheekily said to DP on phone earlier "oh I might go back to bed when you get home", he said "no I was going to cut the grass, you'll need to keep an eye on DCs"....what????

Admittedly our garden is like a jungle as its not been dry when he's been off for so long, but absolutely no way is he cutting the grass!!! If he had said paint the house, wash the cars, decorate the living room, fine, but cut the grass?? he's off for the next 3 days when dc's and I are at work/nursery.

Do you think he's trying to bump me off Wink

I should just point out that I wouldn't allow him to use machinery after his nightshifts anyway!

Are you always this controlling?

You wont allow him to cut the grass? You wont allow him to use machinery after a nightshift?

have you married a 5 year old?

FadingAwayToAHippo · 16/07/2012 08:55

I won't let him cut the grass as I have horrendous hayfever, that was the point I was making.

Oh cant please do remove those knickers from your behind.

Bunbaker · 16/07/2012 08:56

Why don't you replace the grass with something else and then you won't ever have this problem.

oreocrumbs · 16/07/2012 08:57

Well I'd be over the moon if my DP wanted to cut the grass after night shift, so YABU from me!

oreocrumbs · 16/07/2012 08:58

...Although I would probably keel over in shock if he were to suggest it Grin

FadingAwayToAHippo · 16/07/2012 08:58

Cos DP likes the grass and likes to garden, we have plants/shrubs etc.

He is trying to kill me isn't he? :)

If it'll set off your hay fever YANBU. I don't think I'm controlling but I have OCD and there is certain music DH can't play when I'm downstairs as it hurts me (mine is mostly auditory).

onemoreminute · 16/07/2012 09:03

yabvu let the bloke cut the grass just shut the windows.

Losingitall · 16/07/2012 09:05

I'm saving to get that astro turf stuff down next year. No hayfever issues just bloody hate mowing the lawn. Just a thought

It will set me off, shutting windows doesn't work :(

It does sound suspiciously like a plan to bump you off, has he asked you to sign any insurance paperwork recently?!!!

Seriously though, he is being a bit inconsiderate. If he knows you have bad hayfever and have been suffering I think he can leave cutting the grass until you are not there. I'd suggest keeping him busy with the ironing instead :)

FadingAwayToAHippo · 16/07/2012 09:09

Kim I have fexofenadine and eye drops from gp and one of they light therapy things, also going through Vaseline at a rate that has pharmacy raising eyebrows!

People think it is controlling or unreasonable to ask a man not to donsomething that will exacerbate his wife's allergies?

Really? Hmm

Are women allowed to have any preferences at all for any reason?

Or do we just exist to make sure men can do whatever the fuck they like at our expense?

dexter73 · 16/07/2012 09:10

I have really bad hayfever too but I still have to cut the grass otherwise the garden would be a jungle by the end of the summer! I just do it and then spend a couple of hours sneezing/itching.

FadingAwayToAHippo · 16/07/2012 09:10

Glen, no but we are getting married in 3 months. Maybe he is fed up with wedding chat! :)

YANBU, I attacked our jungle yesterday whilst DH handled the DC as his hay fever was playing up. I thought I was being nice saving him the job but he was in such a state as night! He has now gone to work with streaming eyes and nose, a red face a d sniffing and sneezing terribly. I feel awful! I'm sure your DH would feel bad if he made your gayfever worse.

ZeldaUpNorth · 16/07/2012 09:15

My dp is a gardener, and i have to drive him about (he doesn't drive yet) with all the tools/lawnmower/strimmer in my car and i have bad hayfever too. You just have to get on with it.

MissPants · 16/07/2012 09:16

Hay not gay!! Oh my! Bloody phone Blush

FadingAwayToAHippo · 16/07/2012 09:18

My gayfever Grin

Usually it's not as bad, but this year is just awful!

OP posts:
thefoosa · 16/07/2012 09:23

I sympathise regarding the hayfever, but it's not going to make any difference if you are in the house or not

MissPants · 16/07/2012 09:27

Oops Grin

DH has been worse this year than he has been for the last 6 at least. I read something about it being down to the alternate rain and heat. Course us moving to a farm in the middle of fields over the winter mat have something to do with it too...
He used to have an injection every 6 months that kept it in check but we're struggling to find somewhere that does them here yet.
