to feel that I should cancel our holiday to Majorca in October of this year?

I have so far paid around £700.

I have not even applied for our passports yet.

I really should have started to lose weight in January of this year when I booked the holiday. I am still weighing over twenty stones. How the hell will I fit my fat arse on the plane and people hate fatties on planes.

I have a severly disabled SN DS aged thirteen. I am dreading the stares and comments from other families at the hotel/resort. We haven't been together on an aeroplane before.

I will die of shame being so fat, not being able to go swimming or wear decent clothes as cannot afford to buy any.

I am anxious about paying the remainder of the holiday price and that is due this Friday. £520 I can pay it but we shall be skint for two weeks thereafter. I have no suitcases or clothing yet or spending money.

I haven't called the booking agent yet to find out how much £ I shall lose or get back.

AIBU?

Personally, I found that tankinis just roll up and make my stomach even worse. I've got a brilliant swimming costume from M&S, which is amazing. Like the Miraclesuits but at a fraction of the price.

I'm fairly sure that it's this one

but could also be this one

or this one

You might need to stick at the club to get yourself going with the diet. I always lose more on slimming world than when I do it alone.

I felt the same as you going on my recent holiday...I was so excited when I booked it but as the date got closer and I'd put on even more weight I was terrified about the plane. It was all fine in the end and I had a great holiday.

I certainly wouldn't worry about swimming costumes and everything as everyone looks rubbish in them! If you do feel self conscious a well placed sarong goes a long way to cover the bits you don't like but believe me no one will judge or even notice your weight. They will be wrapped up in their own holidays.

Try to lose a couple of stone before you go and you'll feel more comfortable on the flight. You can lose that much so go for it. Don't eat the meal on the plane as the tray tables can be a pain for larger ladies. Just take your own sarnies and don't use the tray table. Don't forget they will have had much larger people fly than you.

Just one more thought is trying to book exit row seats on the plane as they give more space in front of you for stretching out and it's not as hard to get in and out of. If they aren't available definitely try to get the aisle seat. I always find these the easiest.

In my experience there are few families in Oct - mostly golfing pensioners.

Have a lovely time. Fuck 'em all!

SoleSource · 15/07/2012 18:11

We have the medical seats. I think they're located at the front of the plane :)
I'm looking forward to the holiday now. I seem to be more anxious about stuff as the years go on. Unlike me, but could be the fact that this is our first plane holiday.

The flight time has been rescheduled from morning to late evening from Majorca to the UK, which means my DS and me walking about at a loose end for about eight hours. :( That is worryinhg me too but I am sure we'll be O.K.

You should definitely go!

I don't know what size you are but I have some summer clothes that are too big (which I've been meaning to give away to charity but never got round to!) which you would be more than welcome to, they are various sizes between 18 & 24. If you think they'd be any good, PM me your address & I'll gladly post them to you :)

EllenParsons · 15/07/2012 18:16

Aw, I really hope you have a lovely holiday. Don't be so hard on yourself x

mirpuppet · 15/07/2012 18:17

Glad you are going and have a fabulous time.

It is your holiday, enjoy it and do not mind people who have nothing better to do than tut at others.

FYI my sister is clinically obese (no idea what she weighs); loves the water; gets on the plane all the time and really isn't bother what others may think as she has spent her hard earned money to have a good time.

ProfessorSunny · 15/07/2012 18:18

I'm a 22/24 - I worry that I won't fit in the seat on the plane :(

AlpinePony · 15/07/2012 18:19

Double check the positions of the seats. The first row in economy often has trays in the arms. This means that the arms don't come up and are solid. If you carry your weight on your bum, you won't fit!

balia · 15/07/2012 18:21

Definitely go - Majorca is really beautiful and family-friendly, great choice for a first plane holiday as the flight isn't too long, either. The weather won't be too hot then, either - enjoy yourself!

SoleSource · 15/07/2012 18:21

Oh SHIT Alpine aghhhhhh!!

I have to ask them tomorrow about this!!!!!

Great motivation though Grin

Are you in a private villa/apartment?

If not-you can still use the facilities, can´t you?

SoleSource · 15/07/2012 18:23

We're going to an all inclusive hotel. :(

So glad you are not still thinking of cancelling your holiday.

I hope you have a great time :)

I'm a bit Envy

GiserableMitt · 15/07/2012 18:26

You've booked to go to Majorca in October eh?
You've booked to go to a beautiful island at a wonderful time of the year.

You will be motivated to lose a bit of weight, you will fit in an airplane seat, your DS will be fine and have a great time, and you will come back wondering why you ever doubted you should go Smile

KittyFane1 · 15/07/2012 18:28

Have sent you a PM x

SoleSource · 15/07/2012 18:29

Athing I shall send you a photograph of me in my swimming costume with people pointing and laughing at Greenpeace behind me it'll cure your Envy :)

My friend, who weighs about the same as you, has just flown to and from the West Coast of America from the UK and she had no problems at all.

You go for it Sole - hold your head up and really enjoy yourself.

A lot of hotels are happy for you to leave your luggage at reception (some even have dedicated lock-up areas for this) and use limited facilities (e.g. pool, reception lounge) between check-out and your flight. This has been the case at the last few hotels I've stayed at - they weren't all-inclusive, but I'd be very surprised if they really turfed you out completely once you explained the sitaution.

fireice · 15/07/2012 19:03

You may be able to continue using the hotel facilities after check-out until you get on the flight.

thenightsky · 15/07/2012 19:06

One of the things I love about holidays is there is ALWAYS someone who looks worse!

Another thing is, people are not judgy in the relaxed atmosphere of sun, sand and alcohol.

Hell, I'm 53 and have cellulite from hell and droopy saggy bits all over. The way I see it, I'm as entitled to soak up the same amount of sun as the skinny birds Wink

Borntobeamum · 15/07/2012 19:30

You MUST go!
14 months ago I weighed 20st 5.
I joined WW and now weigh 14st 3.
I always managed to fit in a plane seat with a belt extended. I couldn't get the tray down though.
By Oct, you could make a massive dent in your weight loss. You CAN DO THIS!!
YOU MUST GO! X
