Don't flame me as I know I'm ungrateful

But it's my birthday and my very very lovely friend has sent me the Grey books via Amazon gifts ... Currently working out how long I need to keep them, how I can pretend I read them or will I have to? I feel a bit like I've been set some homework o do over the summer that I really don't want to do. I'm not into porn at all and do not find things like nipple twiddling remotely erotic (looks down at 8m dd nursing). :)

So are they worth a read

Nope, they are truly dreadful and will probably turn your milk sour Grin

fizzyapples · 15/07/2012 08:45

Fake it, say you're really looking forward to starting them when you have time. (never)

JeezyPeeps · 15/07/2012 08:46

I got to chapter 3 before I gave up.

JumpingThroughHoops · 15/07/2012 08:46

Poorly written drivel. It's all hype

confuzed90 · 15/07/2012 08:52

On the other hand...I've nearly finished the first book and I love it! although I am definatly into erotic

ipswichwitch · 15/07/2012 08:53

Happy birthday mama :)
Have to agree that having a bf baby totally puts me off anything remotely "nipple twiddling"!
I'd do what fizzyapplessaid. Don't get time to do much with having a baby so wouldn't exactly be lying......

thebody · 15/07/2012 08:55

They are bollocks. Put on shelf and forget.

yellowflowers · 15/07/2012 08:55

I think you can return them via amazon without friend knowing.

ILoveStripeySocks · 15/07/2012 08:56

Ive read all 3 books, thought they were good! I skipped all the sex scenes as they were boring & cliched, but I enjoyed the rest. Felt I was reading a book from my teens Grin

fizzyapples · 15/07/2012 08:57

I was asked WHY I wasn't reading them the other day when group of friends were discussing the books. I didn't realise it was 'da law' now.

Iamsparklyknickers · 15/07/2012 09:01

Happy birthday Thanks

There are some blogs reviewing the grey trilogy, some are really funny. Unfortunately I don't remember any of them as I've followed the links from threads slagging them off!

I say get yourself over to chat and ask on one of the threads over there then do a bit of faking homework.

Then regift them.

JeezyPeeps · 15/07/2012 09:03

What put me off was things like (when the lift got to the ground floor) apparantly she 'scrambled out' before 'valiantly' trying to calm herself down.

All she had done beforehand was interviewed someone and she had the hots for him.

If you are happy to get caught up in the story and not care that it is REALLY poorly written, go for it. If on the other hand you prefer the words used to be appropriate in their meaning - don't bother.

Mamamaiasaura · 15/07/2012 09:04

For those of you who liked them, are they like the twilight series? The only part I remotely liked about that series was the the vampire and werewolf, not the whole teenage love/crush story bit. (I just read the first couple of lines about her hair... Yawn)

Dprince · 15/07/2012 09:05

They are rubbish. I would find a review on the web. Some are quite detailed. Will tell you everything you need to know.
I got part way through the first then read a review, didn't seem that exciting to bother with the rest. Its a rubbish book and very poorly written.

Mamamaiasaura · 15/07/2012 09:05

I'm going to have to lie aren't I Grin.

No. They arent like twilight. They were initially written with the twilight characters, but that's it.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 15/07/2012 09:08

Sorry mama does sound a bit ungrateful. If id bought them for friend who then sold them on or pretended to my face she had read them I'd be a bit pissed off. Be honest and say thank you but not your kind of thing and would she mind if you returned for something different. I'm sure she would understand.
Or read them. Porn not my thing either but I think they are more a bit of fun. I'm currently chapter 4 Smile

hermionestranger · 15/07/2012 09:10

Return them for something else, tell friend they are on your bedside table. Win win.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 15/07/2012 09:10

Oh and happy birthday Smile

UnChartered · 15/07/2012 09:12

Happy Birthday Mama Thanks and Wine ignores bfing bit Wink

as they are 'porn' Hmm i'd tell friend you have to hide them away in the bin from the DCs and thank her for the gift

fizzyapples · 15/07/2012 09:12

She doesn't sound ungrateful at all, what's with this idea that every fecker in the world wants to read this shite?!

WMittens · 15/07/2012 09:13

Why not try reading the first bit of the first one, rather than just dismissing them out of hand? Not even giving it a try is ungrateful; if you start reading and then decide you don't like them, then (if the subject comes up) you can tell your friend without any stigma, "I appreciate the gift, started reading them but couldn't get into it, not my cup of tea."

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 15/07/2012 09:14

I'm not saying she has to read them but be honest with friend about exchanging them

elinorbellowed · 15/07/2012 09:14

To my horror, one of my Year 9 pupils (male) asked me if I'd read it, because his aunty and mum had! He said that he's had a look, but he didn't like it because it read as if the girl was drunk and the man kidnapped and raped her! I said that I thought it might be a fantasy thing and spoke lightly of it, but was secretly pleased that he was sensitive and not dismissive of violence towards women. Not sure his mum would be chuffed that her son's teacher knows of her 'private reading'.
