fed up with getting soaked pushing a pushchair

yesiamanaturalblue · 14/07/2012 22:09

I have a 6 month old baby, and with this weather, I find it near impossible to hold a brolly and push a pushchair. My raincoat is shit in heavy rain and i still get soaked to the fucking knickers.

Why hasn't a pushchair manufacturer produced a rain cover that goes over pushchair and parent/pusher?

AIBU?

Get one of these

I had one years ago, they are fab!!

G1nger · 14/07/2012 22:14

Really - to the knickers? You really ought to pop into a coffee shop / bus shelter before that happens ;)

You need a better coat. Or dress like you're going wading.

Nagoo · 14/07/2012 22:14

I have a merrell wakefield. My life is better.

yesiamanaturalblue · 14/07/2012 22:15

Thanks hokey but just had a look on the pushchair compatible list and mine is not on there Sad

Oh thats a pita

Some of these then?!

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 14/07/2012 22:16

It is so crap. And if it's windy as well we're proper buggered!!

I have a short, padded parka style jacket with a heavy fur lined, fluffy rimmed hood. Because the hoods so big and heavy I'm fine in the rain. It's just crap in the wind!!

And we need a rain over that goes over our hands too.

In fact, I need a nanny ;-)

yesiamanaturalblue · 14/07/2012 22:17

Grin hokey yes!!!

Buy a proper waterproof coat (i got mine from trespass) a pair of decent wellies (knee high) and the only wet part of you will be the tops of your legs. And your hands. Though I've been thinking about waterproof trousers too

yesiamanaturalblue · 14/07/2012 22:21

G1nger, I walk (at least) 4 miles a day, school is 1 mile away, so to and from twice a day = 4 miles, with no shelter Sad

OP posts:
BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 14/07/2012 22:23

Yeah have to second the wellies.

Handsfullandinamuckingfuddle · 14/07/2012 22:25

You need one of these Smile

olympickibucket · 14/07/2012 22:26

Thankfully my buggy pushing days are now gone. I had a Stockman's Barbour Coat, a Tilley Hat, and Dubarry boots. Still using them to walk the dogs!

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 14/07/2012 22:30

I had a three wheeler pushchair that I could push along with one finger. It would turn on a sixpence and was so light to push. I used to use it for dog walking etc. Had big tyres that would cover any ground and the front wheel would swivel.

Then I bought a stroller to use in town. Four rigid little plastic wheels that caught on every surface and no way could I let go of one handle to hold a brolly, it would career off to one side. The three wheeler had a bar handle so you could hold it anywhere.

Can you get hold of a better buggy?

redskyatnight · 14/07/2012 22:35

You need a better raincoat. Brollies are rubbish unless the rain is fairly light and straight down anyway.

G1nger · 14/07/2012 22:35

In all seriousness, a friend bought waterproofs when in scotland recently. She's taken to wearing them in heavy rain and thinks they're great. I think it's well worth looking into.

RandomNumbers · 14/07/2012 22:39

peaked hat

baker boy style pretty good

long boots

a really decent coat, merrels really are v good

chandellina · 14/07/2012 22:39

A hooded jacket is the only way to go with my Maclaren. And not caring too much about my daily appearance...

TidyDancer · 14/07/2012 22:40

I looked for something to solve this problem, but ended up getting a better raincoat.

Considered that buggy brolly thing, but had it quite rightly pointed out to me that I would be a menace on the pavements with it, as I could fairly easily take someone's eye out with it since it is at a fixed height.

aquashiv · 14/07/2012 22:41

Loving the umbrella hat review

mcfee · 14/07/2012 22:42

And I'm fed up with so called raincoats with hoods which only go up half way across your head.

UniS · 14/07/2012 22:43

waterproof trousers and waterproof coat with a hood.

oh and waterproof trainers/ boots.

I'm not the only one who dresses like that for the school run. some children arrive in full waterproofs and change out at school. DS can now get himself togged up at teh end often day and leaves classroom in full waterproofs on those days.

ImaCleverClogs · 14/07/2012 22:45

Seriously get some expedition wear - walking boots, waterproof trousers and proper walking jacket with hood. I am a convert since I started this as I couldn't bear the soaked to the skin feeling on top of sleep deprivation.

You can dress less practically underneath and shed all the outer clothing into the buggy basket once you arrive somewhere.

Luckily its hardly rained here for ages! We had a hell of a long winter though so I get you.

Springforward · 14/07/2012 22:46

I have an enormous Tresspass waterproof with a monster hood, and wellies. Used them for pushchair walks and now no pushchair, DS has wellies and a Regatta all in one waterproof which means we're both ok. Which is good as we're off to Wales next week and we're going on those beaches whatever the weather!

olympickibucket · 14/07/2012 22:48

Where on earth are you ImaCleverClogs
