I cannot decide.

If we go abroad I do not want other people around. I do not like other peoples children. I do not want english bars or all invlusive.

So if abroad I will need a villa and ££££.

or

Uk. Accept it is going to be a bit chilly and rainy. And half the cost of somewhere warm but hideous.

What the actual do we do.

Go for hot and expensive! :o

Jiggleballs123 · 14/07/2012 20:31

It really depends what you can afford and what you ultimately want.

If you're going to bankrupt yourself for a posh holiday abroad then don't go. If it just means you can't have those new boots you wanted then have the holiday.

Persoanlly I'm a saddo that loves the uk I can't afford the holiday abroad I'd like so most times don't bother.

Sirzy · 14/07/2012 20:32

Uk, plenty to do inside anyway if you pick your location well

Cremolafoam · 14/07/2012 20:34

Drive ,ferry crossing to a private house

DamnBamboo · 14/07/2012 20:36

Can you afford £££.

If so and you have a good idea of what you want from a holiday, then go abroad because you aren't going to get sun here

KiwiKat · 14/07/2012 20:38

We've found holidays abroad cost the same as holidays in the UK, but are warmer and drier. Would take a lot to persuade us to have a summer holiday in the UK ever again. Winter holidays in the UK are a different story - thoroughly enjoyable, and so much to see and do. LOVE winter breaks in the UK!!!

Roseformeplease · 14/07/2012 20:40

West Coast of Scotland. It has barely rained here in weeks, the beaches are empty and cottages not too pricey if you can find one still available.

DamnBamboo · 14/07/2012 20:40

Hey Kiwi, we're going to Torquay this after a very extravagant one last year so I'll let you know how it compares.

You never know, the English Riveria may be very nice at this time of year (although not this actual year obviously) Smile

TaggieCampbellBlack · 14/07/2012 20:49

I resent paying ££ to be annoyed by other people.

Or i could pay £££ and not be.

Or £ and stay in uk.

Scotland is appealing a bit.

Agree with kiwikat. UK holidays cost the same and sometimes more than the cost of an overseas holiday. I love Cornwall outside of the summer months but no way would I spend a shed load of money for 2 rainy weeks there in August.

OP you can get reasonably priced villas as either a last minute booking with someone like Simply Travel (which will include flight and car hire) or price it up independently.

TaggieCampbellBlack · 14/07/2012 20:54

I disagree. It is going to cost £2500 for a villa plus flights to greece or £600ish for a uk cottage.

DamnBamboo · 14/07/2012 20:57

Taggie we've got a 4 bed cottage on the beach in Torquay for under £1000. Well under actually. It's private, three minute walk to the actual sea, big garden, walking distance to pubs etc..

Ok, the weather this year is not good it's true, but we booked it some time ago and the price was not weather dependent.

So I agree with you, it is much cheaper to holiday in the UK than abroad, especially with the cost of flights.

Cremolafoam · 14/07/2012 20:57

As I say there is a middle ground.

You are how many people?
When do you want to go?

LucieMay · 14/07/2012 20:59

It was about £100 more expensive for us to pay for a caravan in Newquay for a week last year than a week in Benidorm this year.

DamnBamboo · 14/07/2012 21:01

How many in Newquay though Lucie and what kind of deal in Benidorm?

TaggieCampbellBlack · 14/07/2012 21:01

I need peace and quiet. Where i get that doesn't matter. Anywhere in the whole world.. Sun would be nice though.

Go www.isavelli.it/inglese/laresidenza.html here. Have just returned. Heaven on earth. Fly Easyjet to Pisa, rent a car, drive there. Only 5 apartments, nearest neighbour is a similar property half a mile away. Pool, friendly owners who'll cook for you, kittens to play with, sunshine, beautiful surroundings.

TaggieCampbellBlack · 14/07/2012 21:15

Mmmmmmm lookss lovely.

Ffs do not holiday in mainland scotland - it is cold and depressing here atm. I think the west coast islands are fairing better -they are a fabulous place to go if you want peace and quiet

forevergreek · 14/07/2012 21:36

£350-500 for a private villa in turkey
www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/hisaronu/57665

many destinations on site to choose from. cheap flights. cheaper than uk

VikingVagine · 14/07/2012 22:16

This place is remote, you could fly to Nimes and rent a car.

VikingVagine · 14/07/2012 22:17

Oops, forgot the link

Odmedod · 14/07/2012 22:24

Go somewhere non 'holidayish' if you want peace and quiet.

What about a ski resort- out of season are quiet, usually sunny in August, indoor pools, nice accommodation etc.

Black Forest?

carabos · 14/07/2012 22:42

I'm in rural Mallorca ATM. Very quiet backwater, no nightlife, although Palma is accessible if you have a car. Very different from the usual image of this place. Surrounded by goats though and noisy birds so maybe not entirely peaceful!
