Hmmmm I like to be organised early and have everything bought by october but that's because dh and ds's birthdays are at xmas so have birthday parties etc too. I like to leave a few stocking fillers to buy at last minute.

Tbh though ds will be turning 6 this year so I don't think ill buy his until much nearer the time - he'll be changing his mind too often. Dd has her 2nd birthday in sept so ill still be able to buy for her in advance.

Although, actually, I've reached saturation point with toys actually and think its all a bit grotesque how many we have :(

eastendywendy · 14/07/2012 19:00

Also, I hate people who correct grammar on here etc but I'm genuinely confused by the brought / bought thing - is it dialectal?

Johnnydeppsnewmrs · 14/07/2012 19:17

eastendywendy - Can you not have a clear out of toys your children don't play with, and sell them on / donate them to others?
What about special trips instead of expensive gifts? Like a party and a trip to the zoo - with the zoo being a "present" as it were?
As for brought/bought - I think in this sense Bought would be correct.
I always thought it was bought as in to have perchased, brought as in to have an item with you on arrival.
I, however, am no expert, and therefore refrain from correcting others Wink .

PuggyMum · 14/07/2012 19:24

I think YANBU to have bought all your pressies but YABU to have wrapped them! I love wrapping pressies when the decs are up and xmassy film on tv with a mulled wine!!

SummerRain · 14/07/2012 19:25

Christ... we've only just started putting money aside, nothing bought despite seeing bits they'd love in the sale as we've been completely skint for months.

I'm usually done by mid november and even that feels daftly early tbh, I still end up buying a few last minute bits every year just for fun Blush

Why have you wrapped them Confused Wrapping is part of the festive fun, why do it in July???

QOD · 14/07/2012 19:28

I've got a few! Stated on DD's stocking in December

MWB22 · 14/07/2012 19:31

Shock And a little bit Envy
If I'd bought and wrapped them, I'd forget what I'd bought, and even that I had bought it and shop again!

ImperialBlether · 14/07/2012 19:35

Have you bought other things too, OP? Booze? Quality Street? Turkey?

It's a bit strange, but since you won't be so busy in December, can I give you my list?

StripyShoes · 14/07/2012 19:39

Yanbu. I actually thought about writing Xmas cards last night!

Dawndonna · 14/07/2012 19:41

I've got most of mine done. Always have it finished by the end of September.

cece · 14/07/2012 19:42

It took my friend 5 years to finally have her balloon ride. Shock

bogeyface · 14/07/2012 19:44

This reminds me of a rant my aunt had some years back. She always had (HAD) her Xmas shopping done and dusted by midsummer, until the year that her MIL selfishly dropped dead. She had bought a gift that couldnt really be diverted to someone else as it was a brand and fragrance that only MIL liked and everyone would know what she had done. She ranted for ages to my mum about the wasted money, never mind that her DHs mum had just died Hmm

She throws caution to the wind and does it in autumn now so that she doesnt risk wasting any money! Her presents are usually crap anyway :o

PuppyMonkey · 14/07/2012 19:46

Sad.

skateboarder · 14/07/2012 19:56

Ive actually swapped xmas gifts with a friend already. That was because we don't see them often and it unlikely we will see them before xmas and im too mean to post!
I have also bought few things in the sales and have few bits and bobs for stockings and advent calendars. I try to spread the cost as much as i can.
I take a day off work in november to wrap, i love it!

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 14/07/2012 19:57

Oh god, something else I have to worry about now. Xmas presents.

MammaTJ · 14/07/2012 19:58

magnolia ours never made it up there last year. They went up in February this year!!

Christmas eve shopping would make me ill!!!

UserNameNotAvailable · 14/07/2012 20:00

YANBU
I have made a start by buying dd a sylvanian families house that was reduced to £8.75 in Argos from £35. Everyday, multiple times a day I check HUKD to find any toy bargains that I can get. I have saved an absolute fortune by doing this, the only problem being that I find something else to buy.
I can't afford to buy nearer Christmas for 3 dc's so starting early and spreading the cost works for me.

I make lists (on phone,iPad,argos shortlist online, paper copies to keep in my coat pocket - love making lists!) and mark things off and add to it if needed. I also write the price down so I can keep a running subtotal.

I will try to wrap things up a few at a time so I don't have shit loads to do on Christmas eve so my plans for an earlyish night don't end up with me being up most of the night and wishing Christmas would just fuck off and be done with!

I realise though that I'll still be running round the shops as they are trying to pull the shutters down on Christmas eve though for anything I might have missed or think they would like or worry their pile isn't big enough Hmm

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 14/07/2012 20:01

There is a Christmas section you know. there are other weirdos over there to share in your organisational skills

Pixel · 14/07/2012 20:14

No point in me buying early presents as I have absolutely nowhere to stash them, it's bad enough in the weeks before Christmas to have things piled up in every spare space but I couldn't face it now as well! I do spread the cost though, by putting all my 50p and £2 coins in a jar throughout the year then having to make multiple trips to the building society because they will only take 5 bags of coins in one go grr!.

SoleSource · 14/07/2012 20:16

YANBU if it helps you to be more organised when the time comes :) Saves £ too.

SoleSource · 14/07/2012 20:17

23 weeks to go. :(

aquashiv · 14/07/2012 20:17

I gues it is only a few months until Xmas when do you put your decs up?

Loshad · 14/07/2012 20:19

YABU, why not just save the money somewhere until nearer Christmas. I do hope you have not bought anything edible (Sad memories of mil's ood chutneys and chocolates - they were in date back when she bought them in may/june/july).
Great spirit of Christmas, all sorted before the kids break up for the summer Hmm
