To have been shocked at seeing a *padded* bra for a 6-7 year old?

In matalan earlier look for swim shorts for ds1 when I walked past the kids underwear section and saw this little bra type top, thought it looked a bit stiff so touched it only to find padding, it was for a 6-7 year old.

Now I've seen little bras and knickers where the pattern would be more at home Kat Slater from Eastenders knicker drawer but padded? Come on!

So because a female wears a bra it is sexualising them.

Last time I looked breast are for feeding babies, not sexual objects.

bras for adults have a function, they do not serve any function for a 6-7 year old. why else other than to be aestheticaly pleasing would an adult put a bra on a child who does not need a bra...that is sexualising.

some times adult females wear bras that have the purpose of sexualising.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 15/07/2012 13:53

IMHO my breasts sereve both of those purposes. they have been sexually pleasing far more than they have fed babies.

Bras are not innately sexual. I agree that sizes are better than ages though.

Bikini's are different because they are not underwear, they are worn on the outside, equally small children should be covering up in the sun as much as possible.

I also always come on threads complaining about padding on bras saying that it serves a purpose because I believe it does - I don't want them all to be removed from sale before my 3yo is a preteen in case she wants one herself!

Padding to protect emerging breast buds? What are they? Tender plants that need to be nurtured to reach their full potential? How precious can you get?

Erm, firstly they hurt and plus boys tease girls for having 'the nipple on' 'nine inch nails' etc I went through alot of that as an early developer with crappy thin first bra's.

Good job manufacturers are creating a solution.

I'm sure there are a few 6 or 7 year olds who have started developing and feel pain (I don't remember any) but I can't imagine it's a large percentage of 6 and 7 year olds - do correct me if I am wrong. I am thrilled that Matalan has recognised this need and has brought out a clothing range to help these poor girls. Odd that the large Asda near us doesn't stock maternity bras - you'd imagine less of a niche market as I'd imagine about half of first time pregnant women buys a maternity bra (as a conservative estimate). So well done Matalan indeed.
