To have been shocked at seeing a *padded* bra for a 6-7 year old?

In matalan earlier look for swim shorts for ds1 when I walked past the kids underwear section and saw this little bra type top, thought it looked a bit stiff so touched it only to find padding, it was for a 6-7 year old.

Now I've seen little bras and knickers where the pattern would be more at home Kat Slater from Eastenders knicker drawer but padded? Come on!

I am surprised at the reactions on this thread given the Let /girls be Girls campaign.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 15/07/2012 12:27

I agree with Let Girls Be Girls, I don't believe it should cover light padding in cropped tops/bras in small sizes, because it's there for comfort.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2012 12:30

The OP called it a bra.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2012 12:31

The padded bikini from Primark last year didn't get the same reaction.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2012 12:32

BTW, I"m not arguing for or against the item in question - I"m just surprised at the different reaction it is getting.

McHappyPants2012 · 15/07/2012 12:35

Soupdragon I don't see how a bra is sexualising young girls.

Because a 6 year old doesn't need a bra.

SoupDragon · 15/07/2012 13:01

MOst people thought the padded bikini was sexualising them.
A good number think any bikini sexualises them.

Why? Don't you remember the pain of breast buds?I do.

Confused Not at all, in fact I remember developing early and having a DD cup by the time I was 13 but I do not remember any of this "breast bud" pain you talk of?

Considering the shape of the bras with padding for children I don't think it's to do with pain... more to do with making them look like they have boobs.

KatherineKavanagh · 15/07/2012 13:09

Funny that, plenty do remember it..... Some currently have dd's complaining if it. How odd, how would you explain this then?

GlassofRose · 15/07/2012 13:09

soup dragon -

I believe bikinis sexualise them too. Why would any adult want to put a kid in those triangle shaped tops etc when their child is flat chested? They shouldn't be drawing attention to those areas and why expose more of their child's skin to the harmful rays of the sun?

KatherineKavanagh · 15/07/2012 13:11

Of course glass, because you personally didn't experience it, nobody else ever did. Of course, we are wrong and you are right. Of course.

Listen up everyone! glass has spoken.... You and your dd's are not experiencing pain or discomfort!

Merrylegs · 15/07/2012 13:13

DD is in yr 6 and her boobs are v painful - and uneven too. A lightly padded bra is great for her confidence (no 'lopsided' look) and protects them. Last week she forgot to wear her bra to school and they had to run the 600 metres. She said it was agony!

GlassofRose · 15/07/2012 13:13

I never said nobody else did? I stated I didn't and apart from you on here I don't remember anyone else complaining about it or know of anyone who has kids who complain about it...

Listen up katherine has spoken... apparently everyone gets sore "breast buds"

GlassofRose · 15/07/2012 13:14

By the way they are called Nipples

GlassofRose · 15/07/2012 13:16

Just out of interest Katherine, like others on here, I stated I don't remember it... not that it was non existent. So why the rude "Glass has spoke" shit? Are you not a grown women?

KatherineKavanagh · 15/07/2012 13:16

There you go, someone else

Breast buds are inside?? Nipples are outside

KatherineKavanagh · 15/07/2012 13:17

No, I'm a grown womAn....not womEn

ThePigOnTheWall · 15/07/2012 13:17

When I went to get my dd measured for her first proper bra I too was surprised by these "padded" bras. The lady in m&s told me that the girls like them because there's no chance of any nipple showing through like with the little cotton ones.

paidgofyn · 15/07/2012 13:17

Will you 2 grow up!

GlassofRose · 15/07/2012 13:23

Women, Woman... I really couldn't give a rats arse luv.

If Breast buds are inside then surely they wouldn't need padding to stop anything rubbing against them.

Sorry paidgofyn. Immature I know, it just pisses me off that I leave my two pence on a thread, as I'm entitled to just like everyone else and all of the sudden I have Katherine with her sarcasm. Whats a matter luv, not enough people agreeing with you?

KatherineKavanagh · 15/07/2012 13:26

Well, yes, plenty do agree. But you say the correct word is 'nipple'?

We are nit talking about nipples here? What do you mean?

Schrodingershamster · 15/07/2012 13:44

I agree with soupdragon about the ae BUT as i said before some "6 year old" sized bras may fit a 12 year old who does need a bra. Its the putting an ae number on the bars thats an issue. It should be sizes only.

Schrodingershamster · 15/07/2012 13:44
