to think it very weird that my collegue doesn't eat anything during the day?

I share an office with my collegue and have been for nearly a year now. I have never seen him eat anything, apart from a piece of cake once when my boss gave it to him cos it was her birthday, so not be rude I think.

I find it baffling that he can go through the whole day without lunch. I've asked him and he says he doesn't feel hungry if he is busy at work. But however busy I am I always get hungry every 2/3hours or so at work.

I've offered him a biscuit on occassion and he always says no. I eat my breakfast at my desk too, plus a morning snack and an afternoon snack, plus lunch too (which I might eat elsewhere sometimes), so I feel like I am always eating! Now my BMI is about 19, so it's not a problem anyway.
My collegue is overweight I'd say (not fat), so the calories must come from somewhere and they certainly don't come from 9-5pm during the day!

He even says if he gets in late from work (he has a very long commute, 2hrs each way) he is too tired to eat dinner Shock

AIBU to be really puzzled by this?

God that is odd (to me).

I have to eat 3 meals a day as am so active I would pass out if not and I lose concentration at work when i'm hungry.

Can understand him not wanting to eat in front of other people but to not have lunch or a snack elsewhere is not healthy if working a long day.

Maybe he does treat himself to a Big Mac poo Grin

I find it odd too. I eat 3 meals a day and strictly no other snacks, but would die of hunger if I only ate once a day. In fact I did it once for about 6 weeks to lose weight before my wedding and I nearly did die of hunger. Fact

A big mac polo Grin

My dh always says that growing up his mum never cooked enough for meals. He would have to raid the fridge in the evenings. His family don't eat much either st home. They eat out a lot though.

I daresay it what you learn growing up. Appetite control and all that. I have always eaten little andoften and my dcs are the same.

My OH doesn't normally eat during the day, and then hoovers up dinner and snacks in the evening. I still have no idea what that's about. Confused He says he isn't hungry, and then if he does have something, he's too full to eat at dinner time.

oooohhhhyes · 11/07/2012 14:20

My dh eats massive breakfast and lunches (inc pudding) in the canteen, then hoovers up a big cooked dinner with me, then snacks all evening - he's skinny and I am quite jealous!

I guess you don't need that many calories netto, if you are unable to be active.

CrikeyOHare · 11/07/2012 14:39

I'm exactly the same height and weight as Netto - and I don't eat at all during the day & just have my evening meal the same as her.

Although I get through a lot of coffee during the day - with 2 Blush sugars and lots of milk.

Socknickingpixie · 11/07/2012 14:47

i eat minimumly during the day i have fruit or weetabix for brekki a small pack of sushi or small cup of veg soup for lunch but a normal dinner, i drink black decaf tea or water.

i wont ever eat around other people not in my family that i see all the time like work and stuff because i dont like the personal comments people see the need to make about what you eat how much you weigh and other such stuff

waterlego6064 · 11/07/2012 14:51

Little and often works for me too. I eat frequently (love food) but small portions. I am 5'3" and a size 8 (but almost 10 stone!)

When I'm having MH wranglings about control, then I restrict calories but what usually happens is that I lose all my muscle tone as well as fat and then I look scrawny.

I don't get this kind of thing at all. My DP often forgets to eat lunch because he gets so engrossed in work. He's very very thin ? was officially underweight as a kid, to the point where he didn't do swimming at school because he didn't have enough body fat to insulate him and was at risk of hypothermia, and he's still very light indeed.

A friend (male) is of more 'average' weight, perhaps tending towards plumpness, and also often forgets to eat ? sometimes at all in a day!

I am 5" 10' and 9 stone or thereabouts, and if I don't eat every 2-3 hours I slow down physically, get ratty, start having trouble stringing sentences together and my brain feels foggy.

I also don't get it when my DP says he's not very hungry at dinner because he 'had a big lunch'. My response is 'But that was hours ago!'

Do I need to eat unnatural amounts, or are other people weird? I think other people are weird Grin

I generally eat twice a day - it's rare for me to actually feel hungry.

I work nights so my first meal is with the family at their dinner time, approx 5pm; then I'll eat when I get home from work, but it's normally yogurt, fruit etc.

I drink plenty of juice and water though.
