I have been doing myfitnesspal calorie counting for six weeks now. This has resulted in a much healthier diet with lots more fruit and veg. And weight loss of 19lb so far.

However I am only having a poo every 3-4 days. I used to go daily pre-diet. And they are really big. I weighed before and after pooing the other day and I was half a pound lighter after not obsessed at all

This has also resulted in trumpiness between poos, fortunately I have a dog and ensure she is always in the room when I feel a trump fest coming on, so I can blame her.

Is this frequency normal? Anyone else on a diet able to share their experience?

Is there a real live poo troll?

Groovee · 11/07/2012 09:28

Are you eating enough fibre?

Shiftinglard · 11/07/2012 09:32

I want to know more about the poo troll too!!!

I think I am eating a lot of fibre, bean flakes, Wholemeal bread, fruit.

Shiftinglard · 11/07/2012 09:33

Oh for arses sake - bean flakes = bran flakes!!

squeakytoy · 11/07/2012 09:35

look on it this way, poo is waste that the body doesnt need, so the better your diet, the less shite you will have! Grin

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 11/07/2012 09:36

I go every day, but am not dieting ....
well that is until I read this thread, you have inspired me so have signed up to myfitnesspal.
it is great - i love how it knows how many calories (and other nutritional info) for everything.
I have a daily target of 1510 calories, and have many stones pounds to lose.

MousyMouse · 11/07/2012 09:36

anything from twice a day to twice a week is normal.
as long as you are comfortable.
are you drinking enough?

Shiftinglard · 11/07/2012 09:38

Feel free to add me to your friends Lainey, same name as on here.

Thanks, shiftinglard, I'll look into it.

Bean flakes! Arse sake! Ha ha!

Exactly, squeaky. Makes sense doesn't it.

Agree about embarrassment being a killer though. We must all know our bodies and report any anomalies. My dad survived bowel cancer but sadly my uncle didn't.

Nancy66 · 11/07/2012 09:52

the better your diet, the less shite is not true - in fact those who eat junk are far more likely to be constipated.

Shiftinglard · 11/07/2012 10:08

Am going to try prunes, as will be easier to factor into weekly shop, although may have to upgrade to syrup of figs if no results! I do feel a bit bloaty and uncomfortable after a couple of days do want to try to go every other day at least.

OP posts:
kittyandthefontanelles · 11/07/2012 10:22

I have half a tin of prunes in apple juice every day. Sainsburys stock them. Yummy too.

Nancy - not going every day is not constipation. Constipation is having trouble passing hard, painful, rabbit pellet type poos. That's what you get from junk food

mrswoz · 11/07/2012 10:23

Prune juice is to be avoided imho, over a couple of days it looks like it's doing no use then suddenly, it works. 5 or 6 times in one evening. Not quite what you have in mind I'm sure Grin but real prunes or the syrup of figs work nicely for me.

Take up running, you will poo plenty then. I lost quite a bit of weight a couple of years ago, the times I had the most frequent movements was when my body seemed to be shifting actual fat, if you see what I mean. I won't go into detail, but you may already be aware of when your body does this and know what I'm talking about!

girlywhirly · 11/07/2012 10:25

Try doing a lot more abdominal exercises, sit-ups, crunches etc. It will help your digestive transit speed.

Some foods ferment more in the gut and produce more wind i.e. beans, onions, beer as examples.

It takes a while for your gut to get used to the changes you've made to your diet, but do increase your liquid intake. A big yes to dried prunes/figs/apricots.

Bertrude · 11/07/2012 11:17

I found that on MFP when I'm doing it properly I end up totally regular For me that was 5:30am EVERY day. Including fecking weekends fucking cunting bowels not letting me have a lie in and husband ended up in a 3 times a day routine.

From all my gut problems I have had previously, the doctors have always said to me that it doesn't really matter how often, as long as its regular. Its when its irregular that its abnormal. Some people just take longer I suppose.

squeakytoy · 11/07/2012 11:22

"the better your diet, the less shite is not true - in fact those who eat junk are far more likely to be constipated"

constipated because they are bunged up with shit!... Grin

ErikNorseman · 11/07/2012 12:26

This happened to me about 3 weeks ago, though I have been on a diet for about 10 weeks so I'm confused. No discomfort in between, no bloating, just not needing to go for several days! I find it psychologically upsetting though so I have used laxatives a couple of times, but that tends to lead to a vicious cycle.

squoosh · 11/07/2012 12:30

a teaspoon of linseed/flaxseed sprinkled over your bran flakes should help.

Shiftinglard · 11/07/2012 15:00

Thanks, some good suggestions there! I have bought a couple of tins of prunes from sainsburys, just had four prunes and a pear chopped up with some yogurt, really nice actually! If I have some everyday with my brekkie will hopefully sort me out, or will try some of the other things!

kittyandthefontanelles · 11/07/2012 16:48

That's what my 8 month old has for breakfast (prunes) and pudding (yog and fruit). Good luck. Do let us know how you get on....

LookBehindYou · 11/07/2012 19:08

At this rate you'll need to change your name to Shiftingturd OP.

Shiftinglard · 11/07/2012 19:20

Lol are you sure you want update?!

Shiftingturd has a distinguished ring to it, might do a namechange haha

OP posts:
kittyandthefontanelles · 11/07/2012 19:27

When I typed your name in, my predictive text said Shitty instead of shifting.

FadingAwayToAHippo · 11/07/2012 19:58
