Would you?

It's not the sort of question anyone here can really answer since it totally depends on the child itself.

cocolepew · 10/07/2012 11:37

What rating is it?

WorraLiberty · 10/07/2012 11:39

Oh actually I've just realised it's a 12A so probably not.

PenisVanLesbian · 10/07/2012 11:41

My four year old would enjoy it. However I'm not sure the other cinema goers would enjoy my 4 year old, so I'll wait for the dvd.

Jiggleballs123 · 10/07/2012 11:42

It's a 12a.

Guess I'm wondering if anyone's seen it yet. We've watched the first one which I would consider ok for my child.

I started this thread about it. I decided not to go in the end but would be interested in how your dc gets on if you do. Grin

DamselInDisgrace · 10/07/2012 11:46

The MN answer will be a horrified 'never, ever, ever'. However, you'll probably find that he's not the only 4 year old in the cinema.

manicbmc · 10/07/2012 11:46

Watching on a dvd in your own home is one thing. Doesn't matter if your kid gets bored and wanders off or is noisy and if he gets frightened you can switch it off. Going to the cinema is a whole different matter.

No way would I take a 4 year old to see a 12a.

I went to see Transformers 3 (12a) and someone had taken their 3/4 year old who then howled through most of it.

Jiggleballs123 · 10/07/2012 11:51

Aw he keeps asking to everytime we see the signs around.

I agree it's very different on the tv to at the cinema. I don't think my dc would get scared but perhaps bored. Bad mother alert but he's seen Jurassic Park and enjoyed it.

Ah well think I'll wait and go see it with dp next week.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0948470/parentalguide - here's a link to IMDB's parental guidance for it.

But, personally, I hate finding small children in the cinema when I go to watch a film which isn't aimed at them, as they tend to get bored and/or upset and it spoils my enjoyment of the film.

noddyholder · 10/07/2012 11:57

I am going today Hmm. My ds has been fanatical about spiderman since he was about 2 or 3 he is 18 now! We always took him as he was obsessed so it does depend on teh child. They interpret things differently though and see it more as a cartoon iykwim

valiumredhead · 10/07/2012 11:57

No, it's a 12a.

Cheddars · 10/07/2012 12:06

The problem is the shops are full of Spiderman figures from this film so in a way they are aiming it at young children. Or at least trying to make money from all the different age groups.

Perhaps if they made it a PG they'd lose the 'kudos' of it being an adult themed film for all the young teens.

cocolepew · 10/07/2012 12:07

Not if its a 12a no. Id wait until it was on DVD.

uselesslife · 10/07/2012 12:08

i wondered about this, but have decided it must be 12 for a reason, so he's not going

rainydaysarebad · 10/07/2012 12:17

I wanted to take dd and she's 4.8. She doesn't get scared of things in films (loves Harry potter and Indiana jones). I might take her during thr day when it's quiet. They won't stop me from taking her in will they?

Pagwatch · 10/07/2012 12:24

Right. There is a scene where a mutant mouse, covered in blood, is eating through the guts of a mouse which he has torn in half.
If your dc would be fine with that then go ahead.

RubyFakeNails · 10/07/2012 12:25

Took at wimpy 5 & 6 year old and both were fine.

Pagwatch · 10/07/2012 12:27

My DD is nearly ten and has watched the mummy series. She found the shooting of Uncle Ben, the bit when the man puulls away all the 'flesh' covering his mutated arm and the bit where he has bits of him shot off at the end difficult.
I thought the mouse scene was really barfy.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/07/2012 12:28

Jurassic Park is a PG though isnt it.

I'm taking DS but he's closer to 6.

I wouldnt of took him at 4 purely because he wouldnt of been interested.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/07/2012 12:29

"Right. There is a scene where a mutant mouse, covered in blood, is eating through the guts of a mouse which he has torn in half.

Is there?!

That would scare me nevermind a 4 year old.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/07/2012 12:37

I went to one of the Spiderman films and there was a child behind me that was obviously too young and clearly bored. Throughout the ENTIRE film he fidgeted, kicked the back of my seat, rustled/shook/crumpled/slurped/chomped food and drink, and repeatedly asked his ineffectual, inconsiderate, over-indulgent parent 'Where's Spidey? ... Where's Spidey? ... Where's Spidey now? ...'

Obviously I don't blame the child, but it was a terrible parenting decision. Please don't, unless you can pick a showing that you know will be full of kids and empty of adults wanting to watch the film in peace.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 10/07/2012 12:42

I went to see it and thought it was scary in parts so would definitely not take my 4yo to see it even though she really wants to.

PinsAndNoodles · 10/07/2012 12:44

I'm having this argument with my EXH at the moment about him having shown our 5yo the original Spiderman (also a 12). What's wrong with saying "no, it's too old for you"?!

The BBFC guidelines for a 12A make it clear to me that these films with this classification are not suitable for young children: www.pbbfc.co.uk/guides_12a.asp e.g. moderate violence is allowed, sex may be briefly portrayed.

Nymia · 10/07/2012 12:51

The bit where the guy's arm sloughs off was a bit much for me, too. I didn't like how it looks when he grows his new one either and pulls away the crusty "flesh" to reveal it. The mutant mouse scene is at least a quick shot - it was over before I realised what I was seeing anyway. The lizard was quite cartoony but Uncle Ben's death was tough, as is the other significant death at the end.

I think 4 is probably too young, but I don't think a child needs to be 12 to enjoy it. Maybe 8 or 9, depending on the maturity of the child. It had a very tween/teenage feel, and is definitely aimed at a younger audience, but not four year olds.
