. The mutant mouse scene was quick but euuwwwwww!

Jiggleballs123 · 10/07/2012 12:58

I'm not going to take him based on what I've been told I will go without him.

I didn't think that the first one was too bad, the thing with children is they will often only be interested in the bits where Spiderman is doing his stuff.

I have just read the imdb rating thing and I wonder why anyone would let a 4yr old see this stuff! I wouldn't let my 6yr old see it. He would probably be 'fine' too, but I just think they are too impressionable at that age. The rating is there for a reason!

StateofConfusion · 10/07/2012 13:02

He's 4.

Its a 12a.

Why are you asking?

My aunt took her 8yo and I thought that was pretty bad tbh, but 4!

Pagwatch · 10/07/2012 13:05

Fwiw...
The first spiderman film is nothing like the new one.
The whole new spiderman series with Andrew Garfield is much darker. It's like comparing the first batman series with Michael keaton with the christain bale series.

I'm a geek aren't I?

I wouldn't - I just told my 4 yo that it was Spiderman for grown ups and he was fine with that. I am always astounded at the mercendiding though.

I loved the recent Avengers film but wouldn't have thought it was suitable for a child really. The next day I noticed that the shops were full of Avengers toys and I was a bit Shock. OTOH my kids are pretty strong stomached so maybe in a few years I'll be merrily carting them off to similar films...

JosephineCD · 10/07/2012 13:17

A former colleague of mine took his 4 year old to watch the original SpiderMan and he screamed the house down, it was too noisy and he didn't understand what was going on at all. He was traumatised for some time afterwards.

JosephineCD · 10/07/2012 13:19

And in most of the Spiderman films, Spiderman isn't "doing his stuff" in costume for that much of the film. It's mostly just Tobey McGuire in street clothes. I assume the new one is much the same (except with the new guy).

sherbetpips · 10/07/2012 13:21

No I wouldnt based on my experience of taking my 8 year old son to see a 12a the other week. We had to leave after 20 minutes because it was so loud and scary. Waste of money.

YouOldSlag · 10/07/2012 13:21

No, I wouldn't. It's 8 years til he's old enough! The rating is there for a reason!

sherbetpips · 10/07/2012 13:21

It was the avengers film that terrified him

sherbetpips · 10/07/2012 13:22

I remember being very surprised at the amount of very young kids at the last harry potter film - my DS would have had nightmares for weeks!

MrsReiver · 10/07/2012 13:33

We took DS(8) to the Avengers and the last Harry Potter, he loved them and wasn't remotely scared. However on the advice of my brother we're not taking him to the new Spidey. We will wait until it's out on DVD.

This new series is much, much darker than the Tobey Maguire ones - it's a completely new imagining rather than a continuation of the series. Thank goodness.

MrsReiver · 10/07/2012 13:34

YouOldSlag - no, a child under 12 can go to a 12A film IF their parents think it's suitable.

YouOldSlag · 10/07/2012 13:39

Yes, I know they CAN, but I don't think they SHOULD.

JosephineCD · 10/07/2012 13:47

A 4 year old is too young to see a 12A. I don't think you should be able to take any child younger than 8 to see a film with that rating.

MrsReiver · 10/07/2012 13:47

Ah, I felt your post just read like they weren't allowed.

Surely it's up to the parents to decide if they SHOULD, not you? That's the point of the "advisory" part of 12A.

Mrsjay · 10/07/2012 13:52

wait for The DVD it is a 12 A so maybe not for the cinema you can watch it yourself on dvd then decide,

YouOldSlag · 10/07/2012 13:54

Surely it's up to the parents to decide if they SHOULD, not you?

Mrs Reiver, I am not the board of censors, but I personally don't think a 4yo SHOULD go and see a 12a film.

What other parents do is their own business but this is a thread that seeks opinions, so I gave one.

Mrsjay · 10/07/2012 13:57

we went to see HP7 and it was a 12 A and there was little kids crying at a few bits and 1 had to be taken out, I think 12 a is such a cop out just the filmakers trying to make more money and well its up to parents if the youngsters go and see it or not,

GeekCool · 10/07/2012 13:57

My ds is 4, nearly 5 and desperately wanted to see The Avengers & the new Spidey.

We haven't taken him. The cinema and the house are entirely different. Also, he'd get bored with the parts where Spidey isn't spidey. He really only wants to see him shoot webs. We'll let him watch bits when it is on DVD

GeekCool · 10/07/2012 14:00

Oh and HP wise, ds has seen 1 & 2 and no further. The first two are PG's after that they get more grown up - as the characters grow - so we won't go further for a while. He's content to watch the same two which is great cause I love HP :o
