Watching Who wants to be a Millionaire on ITV +1 and contestant has just said whe was thrown out of the Brownies. I hear this often on TV by minor celebrities and it really annoys me.
There got that off my chest.

Being thrown out of Brownies isn't something to be proud of

It's not? Shock

MrsFionaCharming · 09/07/2012 22:42

Cannot agree more.

FuckityFuckFuck · 09/07/2012 22:43

I wasn't thrown out but I was a sixer, and my six were weirdly proud that we only had 3 or 4 badges between us :)

HexagonalQueenOfEverything · 09/07/2012 22:44

You hear it often on TV by minor celebrities? Who? I've never heard anyone say it. Famous or not

Babylon1 · 09/07/2012 22:44

My dd has just enrolled and literally would be gutted if she was kicked out Sad

It's like being proud of an asbo or something Confused

whathasthecatdonenow · 09/07/2012 22:44

I'm quite proud of being asked 'not to return'. I was a very well-behaved sixer, then Brown Owl retired and her replacement was a bully who picked on the younger girls. I stood up to her when she made a new recruit (7 years old) cry.

Well in whathasthecatdonenow's case, she basically got thrown out for following the Brownie Promise. I think that is something to be proud of.

There are probably quite a few of us on the boards. Perhaps we could form a disreputable gang, with ripped patches where our badges were ceremoniously removed and our clover leaves crushed underfoot.
Although in my case it was guides.

Pumpster · 09/07/2012 22:49

I think I'd be quite proud. I never did like having to promise to love my god!

paradisechick · 09/07/2012 22:50

An ASBO is the only chance I have left of getting letters after my name!

Being chucked out of brownies is hardly a dark secret to be ashamed off. It's the sort of thing you will laugh at in years to come.

whathasthecatdonenow · 09/07/2012 22:51

I would like to point out that I have a healthy respect for authority generally - I'm a teacher now, so my little rebellion didn't have long-term consequences. I'm was also an opinionated little madam, but I did do very well on my hostess badge.

LentillyFart · 09/07/2012 22:52

Fuckity - I just love your NN!

RackandRuin · 09/07/2012 22:52

I wasn't even allowed to join the brownies. I went once to try it out, but my mum and the leader agreed it wasn't for me.

I would have loved the opportunity to have been kicked out.

paradisechick · 09/07/2012 22:53

And no, I wasn't thrown out of brownies. I was asked to consider my commitment to guides. I'm sure I'd have been chucked out if my granny hadn't been the county commissioner!

FuckityFuckFuck · 09/07/2012 22:53

Lentilly

Why, thank you

tis my catchphrase

Babylon1 · 09/07/2012 22:53

Oh no, I've done it again haven't I?

Thinks back to "my toddler is a twat" thread BlushBlush

No danger of me getting an asbo though I'd have to get a fucking life first !! Grin

TheMysteryCat · 09/07/2012 22:54

ooh! I was thrown out of the guides because i threw macrami at the leader.

so, i joined the scouts. much more fun!

VonHerrBurton · 09/07/2012 22:55

I remember crying for what seemed like forever when my Brownie career ended when Bitch to end all Bitches Brown Owl shouted at me in a room full of people for not 'learning how to shake hands properly' as part of a badge. I was mortified. So bad that my, very strict, almost Victorian, Dad felt he had to speak to her afterwards about the way she had spoken to me.

I have generally horrid memories of Brownies, OK, it was years ago and I'm sure it's changed now, but I guess that's why some people say it in a lighthearted, jokey way.

paradisechick · 09/07/2012 22:56

My toddler is a twat?! There was a thread called that? ha!

signet2012 · 09/07/2012 22:56

I got thrown out of sunday school..... it would appear we are not all of God's children... well, not if you tell all the other kids that the miracles are impossible. That Mary MUST of had sex because thats the only way you can have a baby and that the bible is technically flawed.

I was 7.

Yes but it's better than being thrown out of school. I once went to pick dn up from school and overheard a parent showing off to a teAcher that her 15 year old had been suspended from school for a week. She seemed well proud, the weirdo Confused

MamaMaiasaura · 09/07/2012 23:01

I was asked to not come back to guides after falling out with the leader. She was a complete bitch about my mum to my face as she wanted my mum to put posters our windows but my my was standing for election and she had a go at me for my mum being a Tory. It's not up to me what politics my parents choose and she was a bully for having a go at me about it in front of the troop. Angry (please note this isn't a reflection of my political allegiance cos they are all wankers, regardless red, blue or yellow)

I told her to fuck off Blush
