To be OBSESSED with what celebrities are calling their babies

I am currently pregnant after years of very expensive IVF. I know I am being a bit precious, but please go easy on me.

So, after many months of not agreeing on a name with my DH, we have finally come up with something that we love. The thing is, I am worried that one of the celebrities who have recently given birth are going to 'pinch' the name. I am thinking in particular of Chantelle & Alex, and most recently Sienna Miller has given birth. I keep Googling, like all the bloody time, to try to find out what they have called their babies. Also, I have a few weeks to go - is there anybody else I need to worry about who is about to give birth? Is anybody else in the same position?

Sorry - I know this is trivial Grin

I am the same!

This is the best site for such vacuous obsessions :o

Snowboarder · 09/07/2012 12:13

Sorry Gemma, but you must admit that sounds incredibly PFB. Possibly something ok to think but a bit pretentious to say IMO.

NotAnAxeMurderer · 09/07/2012 12:21

A year ago I would've said you were being silly. But then VB had her baby THE DAY BEFORE MINE! and stole MY NAME! Just couldn't use it after that and have never liked the name we went with as much.

GemmaPomPom · 09/07/2012 12:22

Actually, that sounded mean of me. Sorry, lack of sleep.

Snowboarder · 09/07/2012 12:24

Ps congratulations on your pregnancy - my DS1 was the result of IVF, no 2 (conceived when DS1 was 6 mo old) was a 'natural' surprise Smile

Midgetm · 09/07/2012 12:40

You are being a bit precious but I do get what you mean. I had decided on a name as my favourite then that bloody Mylene Klass named her DD just before me and it shot up in popularity. So much so that I thought - not going to use it. But when my DC was born - I knew it was the right name for her as it really suited her. Much more important that the name suits the child than what any silly celeb does. And naming can get a bit silly if you only do it because you don't want it to be popular. It matters more if people close you do it don't even get me started on my sister PS I have nothing against Mylene - just the baby name thing.

EldritchCleavage · 09/07/2012 13:24

Congratulations! But please, embrace your child's freedom to be whatever it likes, including pedestrian!

lazyfish · 09/07/2012 14:16

I was always going to call my first DD Bethany, until teenage Mum from Corrie pinched it, and I went off it. Wish I'd still used it now though.

unluckycat · 09/07/2012 14:23

You're heavily pregnant, if there's a time that you're allowed to be irrational and obsessed with baby names it's now!

Tbh I'd still be slightly horrified if a famous celeb chose one of my children's names.

Psammead · 09/07/2012 14:26
Confused

I really wouldn't worry what a flash-in-the-pan celeb calls their child. Penelope is near the top of our list for a girl, and tbh I have already forgotten who gave birth to one as mentioned on page one of this thread Grin

Scotland... not so much.

Katienana · 09/07/2012 14:29

Haven't read the whole thread but I am in the same predicament, trying to pick names and I would be so annoyed if Chantelle & Alex went for the same one!!

IKilledIgglePiggle · 09/07/2012 14:30

I want to say YABU BUT I kind of know what you mean......DS1 & DS2 both had their names stolen by a celebrity, DS2 only recently and he is 8 now so there's a bit of distance, but since said celebrity used it I am hearing it more and more.

I thought I had got away with DDs name until I read an article about Christian Bale in the Daily Fail......he was pictured out and about with his DD with my DDs name......although he got there first, ha.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 09/07/2012 14:31

I would laugh at you OP but then I remembered I was incredibly vexed when that vile toothy pair Abbey Clancey and Peter Crouch named their baby the same as my dd a year or so ago.

squoosh · 09/07/2012 16:10

Some people are really into names and need to know that it's not too common, not been used by a Z lister etc. I think that's fine.

It's also fine to choose a name just because you love it and not care how popular it is.

But Scotland??? Good grief!

squoosh · 09/07/2012 16:12

And congratulations! You've waited long enough to obsess over baby names Smile

GemmaPomPom · 09/07/2012 16:17

Well, Sienna Miller had a girl. Am eagerly awaiting the name announcement now, and hoping they don't choose our name...

squoosh · 09/07/2012 16:21

What is 'your' name? Whisper it to me.

Psammead · 09/07/2012 16:22

I really want to know too.

Please, OP? Pleasepleasepleasepleaeplease...

PollyLove · 09/07/2012 16:22

A year ago I would of thought you were being silly. But was less than impressed when Beyonce used my DDs name as their little girls middle name! Penelope Scotland is very original Confused

Psammead · 09/07/2012 16:24

Mel Gibson has a DD with our DD's name.

He's not my first choice of celeb to share taste with, but it's only a name.

lizzieangelbug · 09/07/2012 16:30

I had dd two weeks ago and called her Penelope (Ethel not Scotland!) and I don't care who else has the same name as her! It suits her and I love it! Sod anyone else!

Loie159 · 09/07/2012 16:32

Yeah, totally. But I also want the name to be special. I don't want my child to have a pedestrian life and a pedestrian name.

Whether or not your child is pedestrian or the worlds biggest star it will have NOTHING to do with the name you give them..... Smile. There are so many children now called unusual names.... not everyone can be a DJ or a celebrity can they? Personllay I think there are going to be a lot of call centre workers / accounts people / bin men / dinner ladies with the most outlandish names ever!

Many celebs name change as well so even if you did give them an "unusal" name in the hope they would be famous chances are they would change it in any case.

Call your baby whatever you want to, but do it becuase it is a pretty name / you love it / it is specail to your family etc... not because you hope it will make them most interesting by osmosis!

squoosh · 09/07/2012 16:32

Psammead lucky you didn't copy Mel Gibson. I hear he can get very angry sometimes Grin

Summerblaze · 09/07/2012 16:35

lazyfish Like you, I had always wanted to call any dd I had, Bethany and then Sarah Louise from corrie named hers the same. I went off the name completely and chose something else. When she arrived though, she just looked like a Bethany so I decided to just go for it. I'm so glad I did coz I hadn't even remembered that until now and seen as she has left, nobody makes the connection anyway.
