To think DP is being unreasonable, and quite frankly, weird?

He won't get married next year because it's 2013. Not because he thinks 13 is unlucky, oh no, it's because he hates odd numbers Hmm so it'll have to be the year after, basically 2 years away!!! He does hate odd numbers, this is true, for example, the volume on the tv will be on 20, never 19 or 21.

Aibu to think this is bloody weird? I'd rather not wait that long :(

I am a bit like this, but I had very severe OCD as a child and was on medication for it from 8 years old. I think he might be a bit the same? I don't think it's Asperger's Syndrome. On the subject of OCD, it really pisses me off when people say, "oh, I'm a bit OCD". No you're not - you're just a tidy, or a bit of a clean freak. I hate the tendency to put a label on everyone, no matter how mild the 'symptoms' Angry

Trills · 09/07/2012 09:09

If you don't fancy a wet wedding best not get married in the UK at all.

lizbee156 · 09/07/2012 09:12

I didn't know there was anyone else like me!

I had to get married on a date with all even numbers, car/tv volume has to be even numbers.

I do know how weird it is, but it's also pretty harmless in my world.

Get married this year.

ChaoticismyLife · 09/07/2012 10:10

Trills has a point there.

I have to admit I like symmetry in numbers, such as the one BikeRunSki has mentioned, not to the extent that I wouldn't get married on a certain date/year.

Sallyingforth · 09/07/2012 10:13

It sounds to me like an excuse to put it off. I wonder what the next excuse will be?

Babylon1 · 09/07/2012 10:27

I love the sequential value of dates and numbers, but again not to the extent of refusing to get married etc.

I'm pretty obsessive with car number plates too and could recite every one we've ever owned since I was a toddler Blush

Phone numbers too - I have a head for numbers!!

Tokamak · 09/07/2012 10:38

there's a lot of undiagnosed asperger's. get him checked out

Yes, because everyone has to be pigeonholed, eh? Nothing wrong with undiagnosed Aspergers anyway. It's not dangerous.

MikeLitoris · 09/07/2012 10:43

My ds was born on 12-12-00.

So he will be 12 on 12-12-12.

TheCunnyFunt · 09/07/2012 10:51

I'm sure he'd really go for that 'DP because of your dislike of odd numbers you more than likely have Aspergers Syndrome. Let's get you to a doctor.' Hmm

Even if he is, does it really matter?

Hmmm I really like perfect squares! Not bothered about odd/ even numbers, but really like that my birthday is on the 25th of the month.

We are getting married on the 16th of August for this reason Blush. Just so that the day will be a perfect square. It is also a Thursday, which is my favourite day. DP doesn't know why I picked that date

Also quite like prime numbers for the opposite reason that they are satisfyingly odd and 'chunky', as opposed to the divisibility of perfect squares.

RevoltingPeasant · 09/07/2012 11:55

Also my last post was the 64th of the thread!

badtasteflump · 09/07/2012 12:02

Bit wierd but hey ho, if that's his worst trait then he can't be that bad Smile

I can't ever have the car stereo volume on '13', even though 12 is slightly too quiet and 14 is slightly too loud Blush

letsblowthistacostand · 09/07/2012 12:12

Was quite pleased to get married on a multiple of 6 myself. (day, month & year!) Lots of aspie traits in my family!

RuleBritannia · 09/07/2012 12:15

Mcmooncup

No. If she wants a baby, then she should get married first.

Tokamak · 09/07/2012 12:32

waits for flak from 'modern-thinking' women

Bang!

But I'm a man.

TheCunnyFunt · 09/07/2012 12:55

Already have a baby :o she was born 17th June 2011 :o

You hussy!

How did you even know what sex IS before you got married?

For shame.

ZebraLeg · 09/07/2012 13:02

Well... I can kind of see where he's coming from but it wouldn't put me off!

I don't have an issue with 13 personally, with me it's more what I declare to be 'random' numbers. I was born on the 31st, that's ok, because it's the last day of the month. I was married (very deliberately!) on the 1st, again because of its place in the month. I was gutted when both DC were born on 'random' days (13th and 4th) it just feels wrong! DH born on the 10th, that's ok (for some unkown even to me reason!)

DontmindifIdo · 09/07/2012 13:06

Give him a choice, married this year or next. If it's this year, you might have to do a small wedding and then the reception next year, is that an option?

Or, could you quietly get married this year, telling no one so your 'big wedding' next year is actually just the religious blessing and party but only you and DH need to know...

Or, (bad advice alert) if you know you can save up a set amount each month, could you not just take out a little loan to do the wedding this year and pay it back over 12 months?

FYI - a summer wedding in no way ensures you won't have a wet wedding, there's a lot of sulky brides about now. At least if you go for a winter wedding you plan for rain and sunshine is a bonus. And it's cheaper to get married in winter. (If 12/12/12 doesn't work, what about 10/11/12? That's a saturday)

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2012 19:07

DS's date of birth disrlturbs me. It is 7-9-8. Bugs me every time I have to say/write it.
