Surreal rubbish! I don't get it!

I cannot take to Teal, I just can't.

Neep is marvellous.

DarrellRivers · 07/07/2012 18:21

My otherwise addicted to CBBC 7 year old DS (thinks CBeebies is babyish) is addicted to Abney and Teal.
It must have something.....

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 07/07/2012 18:23

I quite like it and ds loves it. It's sort of nice and gentle.

Astr0naut · 07/07/2012 18:26

I don't get it, but Ds has been hooked since the very first episode. We know when it's on, because every night we hear this:

"Abney and TEal Mummy!"
"Abney and TEal, Ds."
"Abney and Teal Daddy!"
"Abney and TEal, Ds."

He then sits, shaking with excitement and shouting random things at the telly.

Tried him with THe FLumps today, which was my childhood favourite, but "no like it."

Meglet · 07/07/2012 18:26

I love it and have been known to snigger at it.

Astr0naut · 07/07/2012 18:26

Neep really wants to be in some hard as nails cop show, where he can swear and get up to proper mischief.

Puffykins · 07/07/2012 18:43

It's about the only programme I don't mind watching with DS, and he LOVES it more than anything else. Except maybe Third and Bird. There's nothing else on CBeebies that he'll watch. Oh, actually, except Squiglet.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 07/07/2012 19:22

We bloody love Abney and Teal in the cheese household and will take on anyone who suggests it's anything other than wonderful

3rd and bird is like some hideous Gilbert and Sullivan operetta.

Beamae · 07/07/2012 19:28

We think it's gorgeous. Our favourite is also the radio... And we love that our neighbourhood features in the backgrounds!

CelticRepublican · 07/07/2012 19:29

I think it's lovely, gentle and sweet. DS LOVES it, especially the one about the buzzing thing.

Does anyone else think that Abney and Teal are lost toys and that is why they live in the park? Or am I overthinking things trying to work out the back story?

TheLazyGirlBlog · 07/07/2012 19:31

Sorry, I like it! And Wholly and Tig too. Its so calm and simple, I hate with a passion noisy manic shows like Justin's House (or Justin's Crack/whore house as its referred to in my home out of earshot of the kids) and as for the Rhyme Rocket, eugh.
Calm old school programmes are great, its sweet. Its surreal, yes, but then we're not supposed to get it?! My son loves the little wooden dudes in it loads.

stressheaderic · 07/07/2012 19:32

Come Outside is the best programme on CBeebies

cheekypickle · 07/07/2012 19:48

Hate the rhyme rocket
Love giggle biz ... Yes I said it but Rapids Johnson and Dina Lady are hilarious !

TodaysAGoodDay · 07/07/2012 19:52

Abney and Teal is wonderful. I want to buy a set of poc-pocs!

IceCreamCastles · 07/07/2012 20:15

We love abney and teal- it make dd (3) laugh more than anything else on tv.

I do think that bop/bob (?) looks and sounds like a poo though Blush

Cheekypickle- I will also admit to finding some of gigglebiz quite funny. Despise justin's house and the less said about grandpa in my sodding pocket the better.

emsyj · 07/07/2012 20:21

I like Abney & Teal - and Third and Bird! I was in town with DD a couple of weeks ago and she was utterly transfixed by an accordion player busking on the pavement. I kept trying to drag her on to the next errand and couldn't think why she was so fascinated, but when I mentioned it to DH later he said, 'She probably thought it was Toby Dog'. Then it made sense!

Grandpa in my Pocket is referred to as Grandpa Up His Arse in this house IceCream - the remote is swiftly put to good use the very second it comes on.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 07/07/2012 20:29

I didn't care one way or the other, but DS likes Abney & Teal. I think the animation appeals to him. It is different, you have to admit. :) It's grown on me.

Shakey1500 · 07/07/2012 20:33

DS loves Abney and Teal. He thinks the one where they find the mobile phone is hilarious.

I quite like Bop. But wish Toby Dog would learn some new fucking tunes.

mrswoz · 07/07/2012 20:36

I dislike the programme, DD loves it and will happily watch it repeatedly. The only bit I can stand watching is Toby dog, but he doesn't do a lot really, bless him.

However - it convinced DD to try, and continue to eat on a regular basis, porridge!! Grin we were struggling with any breakfast foods besides toast (fussy eater is an understatement) so that alone is good enough reason to let her watch it!

Supertex79 · 07/07/2012 20:37

DS loves this show too! Was a bit surprised as not his usual thing - ie Thomas, diggers etc. His favourite episodes are The Radio, The Train and The Slide! I don't mind it, makes a change and is a vast improvement on other shows that irritate me Grandpa in My Pocket for example! Just wish they would hurry up and make a Neep toy! His Guinea Pig has already been called Teal!

JollyGoodFun · 07/07/2012 20:42

Ds is 14 months. Abney and Teal is ignored completely. I don't like it much either. We love 3rd and Bird though. We also like Night Garden and Big Barn Farm.

Come Outside is definitely the current favourite. It has a dog AND a plane. You can't beat that.

larks35 · 07/07/2012 20:46

I love it as does DS (3.5yo). But then I do like surreal. Also, nowt wrong with 'arking back to the ol' days if you ask me. Been round a friend's house today and she put cartoon network on - blimey, that is shite!

CandyCrate · 07/07/2012 20:48

Whats this 3rd and Bird thing?

Ds loves Neep from Abney and Teal. Cant say I like it much but thats maybe because I cant seem to establish much of a storyline! Toddlers dont neccessarily need a storyline though.

Does anyone like effing Grandpa? I hate it too. They should cancel it!
