to wish that every person I speak to would stop trying to shove '50 shades of grey' at me??

Everywhere I go, everyone I speak to seems to ask me if I have read it and when I say 'no', they try and persuade me that I really should blah blah.

I am stubbornly digging my heels in and refusing to bow to the hype with this book but wish my friends and colleagues would just stop (one of my colleagues told me today that her and her DP had sex 4 times on Sunday because of the book - I sat there wondering how me and DH would fit sex in 4 times with the DC running around Wink)

Seriously is it not just porn under another guise??

Flobbadobs · 05/07/2012 11:54

SGB love it! I'd link it to my fb page but my parents are on there.... :D
I used to read the Black Lace stuff a lot, they were good.

Flobbadobs · 05/07/2012 11:58

I've decided I'm going to give 50 shades a try. Then I am going to follow my friends example and send DH so many suggestive texts his ears will bleed and he'll beg me to stop reading it! It'll work too. Funny thing is if I turned into what that Ana character seems to be like he'd hate it...
Then I am going to download some decent erotic fiction and educate him.

samandi · 05/07/2012 12:10

This is the only place I've seen Fifty Shades of Grey discussed.

perceptionreality · 05/07/2012 12:14

I refuse to read it it looks like low brow crap to me

NoComet · 05/07/2012 12:15

Our school gate conclusion was it was sexist rubbish, that Grey was a controlling bastard and not to bother, so I won't.

Pammym · 05/07/2012 12:16

I read the reviews on Amazon and it sounds dreadful so not rushing out to buy it here! Sorry to be so dumb but what does BDSM stand for Blush.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 05/07/2012 12:17

Read far better on fetlife or informed consent. This is the sparkly vampire of porn, which is facking shite! Stalker vampire boyfriends blargh! I read some so I could fairly criticize it and was actually depressed by it.

ginghamfish · 05/07/2012 12:18

It is utter shite. I feel proud of myself for not following the crowd. I couldn't give a flying fuck about Mr fucking wonderful Christian Grey and I wish he would go and fuck himself. Do I give out the general impression it is pissing me off too?

perceptionreality · 05/07/2012 12:20

What put me off most of all is hearing all the people who say they 'never read' but that they read this so that is a reason to want to buy it. For me that spells the opposite!

solidgoldbrass · 05/07/2012 12:52

It's only people who never read books who like it. Because if you'd read anything even halfway literate or even properly fucking edited, you would not be able to get through 50 Shades of Shit without a migraine.

OhDearNigel · 05/07/2012 12:52

it sounds absolutely crap and the excerpts I have read have been utterly dire. I probably would read a chapter of it for a laugh.

Everyone is going on about how wonderful it is at work and I just sit there in a haze of intellectual smuggery Grin

OhDearNigel · 05/07/2012 12:53

BDSM - Bondage,discipline & sado-masochism

OhDearNigel · 05/07/2012 12:57

I've read some really good BDSM on literotica

Bossybritches22 · 05/07/2012 13:05

Oh thank you a haven of sanity.......Grin YANBU

I was starting to feel I was being a prudish Maiden Aunt.

So many of my usually sane friends are positively panting about it I was a bit Hmm

I'm not bothered about the BDSM it's not my bag, but novels popularizing controlling abusive relationships DO bother me.

But hey Ms (Mr?) James is laughing all the way to the bank!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 05/07/2012 13:13

I'm reading this instead. I suspect it's better written and it's definitely more succinct. Grin

WhitesandsofLuskentyre · 05/07/2012 13:19

I want to hurry up and finish number 3 just so I can join in with the 50 Shades of MN thread (not sure if it contains spoilers haha, so have bookmarked my place!). Worth the pain of reading them, if only for the sheer joy that is that genius Classics thread. Grin

ceebeegeebies · 05/07/2012 13:35

God yes, 2 of the people yesterday who were insisting that I absolutely must read it both said 'I haven't read a book for 10/15 years and it is amazing'.

I actually do like the concept of erotic literature but I have a strong feeling that Shades of Grey is not it Wink Might try out some of the websites linked to here Grin
