I saw her talk on a news programme last night...

shes so composed and articulate, and clear-sighted and insightful and compassionate and calm and stylish and unique...

and the work she does/ what she acheives is OUTSTANDING..

heres a link to her wiki page...but it doesnt do her any justice

She reminds me very much of my high school RE teacher, in both her appearance and manner. She has the same calming assertiveness and we all absolutely doted on our teacher. Camila seems like such a genuine person.

This thread is fascinating, especially those who think it's a new topic and have joined in with the 'yes, isn't she wonderful!' posts. It's also interesting to see how much things can change in a fairly short space of time.

UncertainSmile · 06/08/2015 18:48

Cameron seems to be a remarkably poor judge of character. Look at his appointment of Andy Coulson and his friendship with Rebekah Wade, to name just two.

And his cunt of a chancellor

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 06/08/2015 18:56

It's possible to be utterly fab, smart, well meaning and stylish and still unsuited to running a large charity...

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 06/08/2015 18:57

The more I read, both here and on other pages I find it odd that the Government were ok with throwing money at it based on CB's persona and ability to influence.

Yes, Cameron's judgment is again called into question.

limitedperiodonly · 06/08/2015 19:07

Miles Goslett's article for The Spectator wasn't entirely fair and I've tired of their Woodward and Bernsteinesque 'My Part In Her Downfall' schtick.

The Spectator is a comic and its writers are spiteful right wing public school dullards with pitch forks. They occasionally unleash Rod Liddle as a sop to council estate oiks with pitch forks.

However, it seems that Kids' Company needed investigation a very long time ago and yet again David Cameron has lavished patronage and money on a charismatic maverick.

limitedperiodonly · 06/08/2015 19:13

I meant to add that the idea that Camila Batmanghelidjh is an outsider is risible.

She is from a very privileged Persian family and went to Sherborne.

She's about as much as an outsider as those rugged individualists Jeremy Clarkson and Boris Johnson.

Binit · 06/08/2015 19:21

I don't think Cameron should be criticised here. Gordon Brown was dishing out money to her as well, she's very charismatic. I've met her and the richer you look, the more she'll kiss your butt. She blanked me Grin. She kissed the butt of a friend who had a designer bag and posh clothes instead. Gave her praise which was completely unfounded to get her money.

There are lots of stories of her being very rude to people and also getting chauffeured around like she's the Queen. She struck me as a very slick act and I really didn't warm to her at all. She reminded me of someone I once knew who told lies all the time.

If anything, Cameron should be praised for shutting this malarkey down. Dishing out envelopes of cash is fine if it's your own money. But it wasn't.

From the latest published accounts:
"One employee received remuneration in the £70,000-£80,000 band (2012 - 1), no employee received remuneration in the £80,001-
£90,000 band (2012 - 1) and one employee received remuneration in the £90,000-£100,000 (2012 - 0)"

limitedperiodonly · 06/08/2015 19:47

I don't think Cameron should be criticised here

Yes he should because he does this repeatedly.

His judgement of personal relationships is appalling and I'm surprised to find that the person who is ultimately the architect of her downfall was Michael Gove while Education Secretary with Tim Loughton as a junior minister.

They are pretty right wing and Loughton is quite strait-laced.

There is no doubt that other people shouldn't also be criticised - such as Gordon Brown, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin and that idiot with deep pockets and a penchant for shelling out, Jemima Khan.

Wolpertinger · 06/08/2015 20:04

TBH I don't think 2 people receiving those salaries in an organization of that size is bad. To get a serious finance director capable of managing a multi-million pound organization, you are going to need to remunerate them appropriately. Ditto an effective chief exec.

However it seems Kids Company had neither (or possibly bullied the finance director out - they left earlier this year 'under extreme stress')

limitedperiodonly · 06/08/2015 20:13

There's a programme on R4 right now about it called The Report.

It doesn't sound good.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 06/08/2015 20:26

I was completely taken in by her. I've donated to KC in the past. These recent revelations have come as quite a shock to me.

Binit · 06/08/2015 20:28

There is too much odd stuff going on and too many stories for something seriously stinky not to have been happening.

BoffinMum · 06/08/2015 20:29

She kicks off at education events if she doesn't get star billing.

BoffinMum · 06/08/2015 20:31

Is it just me that noticed the similarity between her claiming to be black in the ten year old BBC article and the recent case in America of that Rachel woman who had been doing likewise?

limitedperiodonly · 06/08/2015 20:32

I'm listening to the R4 programme right now and she seems to be suggesting that Kids' Company was closed down because some children alleged sexual assault and they were troubled and deluded Shock

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 06/08/2015 20:33

Cameron absolutely should be criticised, he makes a habit out of being 'memorised' by dubious people. I really don't think that's a welcome character trait in the man who is supposed to be the PM.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 06/08/2015 20:34

The quote about being black in limitedperiod's link is from Decima Francis not Camilla.

CalmYourselfTubbs · 06/08/2015 20:37

she's awesome.
love her and her work.

there's more to this than meets the eye.
read between the lines.
its linked to another prominent news story.

BoffinMum · 06/08/2015 20:38

Oh sorry, didn't read it properly,

The80sweregreat · 06/08/2015 20:40

I hate Cameron with a passion, but fair dos, this lady has been around for years and other politicians of all colours have met her and supported her charities. Celebrities too. She has had a high profile for a long time. Its all very odd.

limitedperiodonly · 06/08/2015 20:43

Boffinmum I could be wrong but I thought the woman claiming to be black in my link was a black woman called Decima Francis and not Camila who is Persian.

I don't think Camila has claimed to be black.

That was why I felt it was kind of bad for her to criticise black mothers over black fathers.

I'd want to stay out of it, because as a white woman married to a white man in a white family I wouldn't have the knowledge.

But maybe she feels she does.
