Being really lazy but....

I have this 10k run to do on Sunday.
I need an Ipod full of music to get me round.
At this stage I should point out that I will be two days off 45, a mother of five and knackered when I attempt it.

But attempt it I will in raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust (thank you to everyone who has sponsered me).

SO.... I need plenty of songs. Two fast ones, one slower, two fast, one slower for up to two hours (I am not overly optomistic re time scales).

I like rock, reggae, blues, jazz and indie type.

I dont like pop (stuff like Take That makes me stabby and may cause me to run into a lamp post).

Can you opinionated lot help me out? How many and what and in what order.

Fix You by Cold Play will need to be at the end because when I am flagging that will get me to the finish. It is the oncology mum's anthem.

I am frankly terrified.

Help me MNers please?

I am going to sort the DCs out. I will be back soon. So if you could have it sorted by then I would be very pleased. thank you very much

Thank you for the good wishes. I have already raised over £2000 Shock

So I have to do it now...
I have a thread somewhere and I WILL be bumping it shamelessly in a few days cos its nearly my birthday and stuff...

Another MNer is running for a children's cancer charity so I will put her details on as well.

I hope it doesnt rain all day or that its too hot.

Can you tell I am not one of life's natural runners?

Alliwant, it's an organised race so roads are closed so no traffic.

At the moment I like to run to Bruno Mars.

Good Luck MrsD, will you wearing any kind of costume so I can spot you? About the 1km mark is near to the end of my road so I shall be cheering on as I'm not doing it this year.

threeineachlobe · 02/07/2012 20:36

Can I tempt you with a little opera? Il Trovatore, vedi le fosche is a stonking tune. Good rousing chorus.

SoleSource · 02/07/2012 20:38

Abba?

mummybookworm · 02/07/2012 20:38

Thanks Wiggles, I thought it was Alannah something.

Good luck Mrs DeVere.

Hassled · 02/07/2012 20:41

mummybookworm · 02/07/2012 20:43

freddiefrog · 02/07/2012 20:47

Oh, I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs

I run very rarely, only when the kids' behaviour is so appalling that I need an excuse to dump the kids on DH (well, it's not rare their behaviour is appalling, but it's rare that running is a preferable option)

Yogurtmonster · 02/07/2012 20:47

YABU. You should not wear an iPod while racing, especially if it is on a course where the roads are not closed to traffic. You won't be able to hear any marshals instructions, or runners coming up behind you wanting to pass. More and more races are banning iPods these days so you may find yourself disqualified. Make sure you check the rules beforehand.

But good luck, have a great race!

cocolepew · 02/07/2012 20:52

Rebel Rebel- Bowie

Love at the pier, kidnapper, union city blue all Blondie.

The pretender - foo fighters

Teenage kicks- the undertones

Ace of spades- Motorhea

Pump it up- Elvis costello

TheHouseofMirth · 02/07/2012 20:52

No idea about the running aspect of this but these are some bouncy, uplifting tunes:

Deborah Harry-I Want That Man
Pretenders - Dont Get Me Wrong
Van Morrison - Bright Side of the Road
Them There Eyes - Billie Holiday
Elbow - One Day Like This
Stevie Wonder - Signed Sealed Delivered
Rolling Stones - Paint it Black

Did find this site : here where you put in your per km time and then you can search by genre for suitable music to run to.

Good luck!

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/07/2012 20:57

I had a Feminist mix when I was running.

  1. Sisters are doing to for themselves
  2. Not ready to make nice
  3. Survivor (Destiny's Child)
  4. RESPECT
  5. It's raining men

etc.

CoffeeMummy · 02/07/2012 21:00

Don't take the title the wrong way, but you DEFINITELY need , the official Olympic Anthem by Muse "Survival"...it is perfect for you to run to Muse ? Survival Lyrics

Race, life?s a race
And I am gonna win
Yes, I am gonna win

And I?ll light the fuse
And I?ll never lose
And I choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won?t pull ahead
I?ll keep up the pace
And i?ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes i am prepared
To stay alive
I won?t forgive, the vengance is mine
And i won?t give in
Because i choose to thrive

I?m gonna win

Race, it?s a race
But i?m gonna win
Yes i?m gonna win
And will light the fuse
I?ll never lose
And i choose to survive
Whatever it takes
You won?t á¹—ull ahead
I?ll keep up the pace
And i?ll reveal my strength
To the whole human race
Yes I?m gonna win

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Win! Win! Win! Win!

Yes i?m gonna win

I cant run bare eared!

Unless the race instructions specifically say that you are not allowed to run with an MP3 player, then it's perfectly fine to use one. The argument about not hearing marshalls' instructions only applies if you have the volume up so high that you can't hear any outside noise, which is unlikely, I would think. I always run with music (except in filthy cross-country or the London Marathon, because hearing the supporters is fantastically motivating!)and have always heard traffic, marshalls, etc - if you're concerned, you can always run with only one earphone in, so that one ear is free.

Good luck with your race! Which one are you doing? I'm doing the British 10k this Sunday, but am woefully under-prepared....
