sounds like it's going to be a really messy divorce. Poor Suri caught in the middle :(

enrolled in perhaps, but has not actually attended yet though.. she is still a very precocious child, who has spent her life being trailed by the papparazzi, and had no normality for the last six years.. hopefully the divorce will mean that her mother can let her lead the more normal life for a 6yo, but considering it is the mother herself who is mainly photographed swanning around various cities with the child in tow, while TC is away filming, I find it quite hard to believe.

She won't have attended as their terms are the same as ours Squeaky...she'll be due to begin in the autumn. What do you mean "swanning around"

She has nice clothes because they are rich...she goes for ice cream with her DD and she's plastered all over the papers...what's normal? i do a lot of the things she does...we all do surely...without the million poun apartments of course and the uber posh restaurants But going to town etc to take DDs out for ice cream that's normal.

Spoken - why would Katie have more time to look after a child than Tom - they both work so technically KAtie wont have time to look after a child either by your logic.
He has managed joint care with his other children so that proves he can look after children surely

She doesn't do as many films as him Late...it's well known. She may WANT to though...but apparently he has stopped her. He's a massive box office draw and she is not.

There is a Suri story almost daily in the media. It isnt an occasional thing, it is a regular thing, and you never see that child actually being able to play like a child. Half the time she is playing up to the cameras and the rest of the time she is scowling and looks distressed by all the media attention.

There are plenty of other celebrity mothers who manage to raise their children out of the public eye and allow them a normal childhood.

Going out for an ice cream is normal. Being followed by dozens of photographers while doing so is not.

but this boils down to a difference of religion - if we were discussing cathlic and muslim would the mothers view/religion mean that she can stop shared care.

Well technically NK and TC had joint care but NK never got to see her kids after the divorce so it wasn't joint care at all. I imagine KH is terrified of the same fate for her and Suri.

I like to imagine the reason all the paparazzi photos show her arriving at parties, on shopping trips etc is that parents don't invite photographers onto the premises when their kids are just playing with friends.

I read she was asking for sole legal custody (so she make decisions on school etc) but joint physical custody. I also read that Tom cruise wante to send suri off to Scientology school without either of them.

The whole Scientology thing freaks me out. I know people have issues with all organised religion but if you stop going to church on a Sunday morning the vicar doesn't send out people to follow you.

Late...probably not no...but if the religious differenced boiled down to the child possibly getting sent away to a boarding school on a boat then I am sure th courts would not allow it...that's apparently what Katie is scared of. The DC of some celebs join something called SEA ORG which is like marine cadets...way from home from a young age.

She is photographed being carried or trailed out of restaurants, very late at night, regularly, not once in a while, but almost daily, or she is "shopping" with her mother.

Children are not commonly seen in restaurants in America during the evening, so it is very unlikely that she is playing with other children inside those places.

What we've been getting on the news over here (probably the same as what you are in the UK) is that she wanted out now because of Suri being about to be heavily indoctrinated into Scientology - and she doesn't want that for her DD.

We also heard on the news this evening that Katie Holmes was one of many interviewees for the role of TC's next wife - no idea how true that is mind!

Apparently Scientologists don't believe that children are children as such. They are regarded as small adults and treated as such. Basically it means little or no discipline and letting them do what they want/wear what they want. Hence Suri wearing ridiculous clothes and being kept out late etc.

And I think it goes beyong 'religious differences'. If you're a Scientologist you are strongly discouraged banned from maintaing a relationship with family members who are not also Scientologists. I hink KH has finally seen the light and is making a bid for freedom. I can't imagine she's still the naive young actress who agreed to marry Tom Cruise five years ago.
