To be nervous about taking my kindle on holibobs?

What do other kindle owners do about holidays? On the one hand it would be nice to download a couple of books to take on holiday but on the other hand will I be nervous about it getting to get nicked every time I go in the pool/swimming pool? Am I being ridiculous? Does everyone take them???
Advice gratefully received...

We're all going on a summer holibob
no more working for a week or two.
Fun and laughter on our summer holibob,
no more worries for me or you,
for a week or two.

Yes, it has a certain ring to it, although I thought you were going to blame DYAC, OP Grin

I'd be nervous too OP. It was on the news yesterday that kindles are serial holibob family killers.

SquidgyBiscuits · 01/07/2012 10:49

Just back from Florida. Spent a day reading my book at the pool - the manager there was amazed that I had an actual paper book. Everyone else seemed to have a kindle.

If it gets nicked you can always ask for another one for Crimbo. Grin

Leave it at homeywome if you want.
But I thought that taking them around with you was sort of the point in them.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 01/07/2012 11:03

I use holibobs Blush

And childerbeast Blush

I'm another fan of the random left beind books, it's part of my holibob fun!!!

And without them I wouldn't have read the joy that is The Thorn Birds at 13!

BabeRuthless · 01/07/2012 11:43

I've got a leather case for mine. It makes it look like a dull personal organiser to any passing thief and also keeps it safe (which is just as well as the cat appears to be obsessed with walking over it)

HazleNutt · 01/07/2012 11:47

that's what Kindles are for.

MrsSutherland · 01/07/2012 13:19

Buy a waterproof case. I bought one so I can stick it near the side of the pool etc so I can see it. I also use it in the bath as I know I would drop the kindle otherwise!

Oh but don't sleep within under your pillow on the 2nd night of your holiday and crack the screen - very traumatic for me it was!!!!

Could I just hi jack & ask does the "aeroplane mode" mean that you can still read on the plane during take off & landing?

And of course you should take your Kindle OP-´m sure it´ll love a holibob.

MrsSutherland · 01/07/2012 14:41

You can't read a kindle on take off or landing as you can't use any electronic devices. As longs as the 3g is turned off (if you have it) then a kindle is fine during the flight.

"as you can't use any electronic devices."

I thought that I´d been on a flight recently where stuff in "airplane mode" could be left on during take off & landing.

Could be mistaken, though.

CotedePablo · 01/07/2012 16:43

Take it with you, that's what it's for.

An as for getting it wet - slip it into one of those freezer bags with the thingie along the top that locks it. I read mine in the bath that way.

Holibobs is fab. I love that word!

MrsSutherland · 01/07/2012 17:37

diddl I thought on the flight we went on recently they said to turn of electronic devices making sure they were in airplane mode first then you can turn them on when the seat belt sign goes off. I am really not 100% sure TBH as I was very tired!

I also like random left behind books. Where we stayed last year had a whole library of crappy books. I like having to read them cos that's all there is.

Yes lots of Dutch. I can't understand Dutch but it sort of sounds like English. I keep thinking I can almost understand it Confused
