...unicorns?

OP posts:
SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 07:27

Don't worry exotic I enjoy deviations on threads!
On that subject, I've known Christians who didn't take the no sex before marriage thing very seriously, but then I know others who do. And I know married Christians who don't use sex for procreation Shock

Hang on, that picture is a horse with a horn, not a unicorn - a unicorn has a lion's tail not a horses.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 07:38

But it's got a rainbow! A rainbow!!!!

OP posts:
SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 07:40

happy now?

OP posts:
RustyBear · 30/06/2012 07:43

It's unicorn because cornus means horn in Latin...

fireice · 30/06/2012 07:53

'Because there is masses of evidence for Christianity but none for unicorns'

Confused I think that everyone is agreed that Christianity exists?

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 30/06/2012 07:55

I'm a tad confused..Is this a joke thread or a subtle Catholic bashing thread?

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 08:00

Neither. It is lighthearted yes, but having found mention of unicorns in the bible I wanted to know why so many Christians put faith in the fact that things like the 7 day creation of the world and angels exist, but don't believe in unicorns when it's all in the bible.

OP posts:
exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:02

I can't think that you have studied the bible if you think that we are supposed to take people's interpretation's of over 2,000 years ago and believe them!

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 08:02

Is there some kind of belief gap that allows angels (supernatural beings with wings) but discounts unicorns (horses with a horn). Surely the second is more believable?

OP posts:
exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:03

It is all a matter of interpretation.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 30/06/2012 08:04

Yeah, it's a Catholic bashing thread if that's why you started it.

Please don't mock my beliefs. It may be 'light-hearted' to you but I'm sick of these 'light-hearted' threads popping up all over MN. Just an excuse to mock Christians/Catholics/Whatever other religion no one would dare make a 'light-hearted' thread about.

So transparent.

exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:04

I would expect that most Christian's don't believe in unicorns or angels. People who haven't studied it tend to be very literal.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 08:04

exotic so the bible is wrong? Is that what you're saying?

Surely if you start ignoring one part it throws doubt on the rest?

OP posts:
exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:05

Almost child like-showing they have never gone beyond the little they got in school.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 30/06/2012 08:05

^^ And there we go. The real reason you started this thread.

GoodButNotOutstanding · 30/06/2012 08:05

I think it's a joke thread, but there may be a little subtle bashing going on, not restricted to Catholics though, all Christians are fair game it seems.

By the way, I don't think many Christians believe absolutely every part of the bible as direct and literal truth. I personally know a LOT of Christians and only 1 believes the Creation story as a literal truth.

I'm happy to believe in unicorns that move in mysterious ways though, it sounds nice.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 08:07

I don't take many things very seriously, but I'm not mocking. I'm asking a valid question and some people are getting defensive. If unicorns are in the bible, why don't people believe they exist?

OP posts:
exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:07

I really think that you ought to study it. Where did I say it was wrong? Hmm
It was written by a collection of people 2,000 years ago. Every culture has creation stories-they were making sense of the world, as they knew it. Next you will be telling me that Noah floated his ark all that time and the lions didn't eat the zebra!! They thought higher thoughts and lived on fresh air!

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 30/06/2012 08:10

Maybe they had a good supply of pre-butchered zebra on board? He only needed 2 alive after all, so he had an abundance to use up before the flood.

OP posts:
exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:10

They didn't have cameras to photo the 'so called' unicorns! Google 'animals that looked like unicorns' and it comes up with possibilities.

exoticfruits · 30/06/2012 08:12

Do you actually know how big the ark was?! This is getting silly. If you have only half remembered facts about the bible from school, and have never seriously studied since, you are going to come up with sorts of questions that a 5 yr old might work out are pretty silly!

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 30/06/2012 08:12

Because there is no answer that will satisfy you. You've already gone a poster for explaining the bible isn't literal.

You're right, you're not mocking. You started a thread to tell people in a'light-hearted, funny way' that they're idiots for their beliefs.

At least be honest why you started the thread. I'm defensive because I'm incredibly sick of these sort of threads being posted under the guise of 'I'm SO CONFUSED!?!'

You're not. So don't insult my intelligence by pretending you are.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/06/2012 08:13

I never knew unicorns had a lion's tail, everyday's a school day.

Loved the first response to the OP Grin

whyme2 · 30/06/2012 08:13

Errrmm who says Christians don't believe in Unicorns??? I have never read anywhere in the Bible that Unicorns don't exist.

In my opinion, it's a big world with endless possibilities cos that's how God made it
