If you are not fat!
I have slimmed from a (generous 20) to a size 16. I went out with my sister the other evening and she commented on me still wearing my "fat" clothes. I've suddenly realised I have no idea how to dress if I'm not trying to cover fat bits!
I fancy lots of lovely work clothes but how do I dress for toddler duty? (Only work p/time.) What shops should I visit when I finally reach size 14? What on earth do I buy? Inspire me gorgeous ladies!
5ft 7 and nearly 40.

Dresses that show of your bust and waist, paired with leggings. Skinny jeans. Long leather boots, leather hobo bag.

SoleSource · 28/06/2012 19:42

I love Desigual.

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2012 19:46

Wow! Lovely dresses.

goodasgold · 28/06/2012 19:47

I think Hobbs clothes only go up to a size 16.

Well done on the weight loss.

TheKnackeredChef · 28/06/2012 19:54

Ooh, congratulations!

Have you thought about a personal shopper? Lots of big department stores have them. You don't have to buy anything if you don't want to (though you're bound to want to!) but they're brilliant when you're not really sure what you want. You end up trying on stuff that you'd never have looked twice at yourself and they'll know all about what styles would suit you I'm sure.

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2012 19:56

I am relying a lot on belts at the moment. I feel like I have spent the last 10 years in track suit type trousers, cargo trousers and denim. I feel such a scruff! Linen trousers? What sort of skirts? Come on ladies! Turn me from scummy mummy to scrummy mummy and remind me why I mustn't dive head first into the cake I've just baked!
Love fat face, monsoon. Where else to try?

EmmaNemms · 28/06/2012 19:57

White Stuff is nice, congratulations by the way!

SoleSource · 28/06/2012 20:00

Personal shoppers are free in department stores.

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2012 20:03

You are all lovely! Oooo personal shopper! Love that idea.

Congratulations!! depends on your budget as well, but french connection do some lovely tea dresses, lovely V neck and a fabric tie round the waist, great for off duty and for putting heels on for on duty days, they are about £60ish but are so flattering to show curves.

Also Isabella Oliver do some great dresses (not maternity!!) and they have a great sale on at the moment, Lovely flattering shapes, and great tshirts.

How about Maxi dresses too? halter necks are lovely.

FateLovesTheFearless · 28/06/2012 20:09

I wear skater dresses with flat shoes, leggings with vest tshirts and skinny jeans, hoodies and knee high boots.

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2012 20:59

Feeling smarter already. Halter dresses are lovely but I would have a boob containment issue!

Hobbs goodasgold's suggestion is gorgeous. Very posh. Have you looked Wolfie?

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2012 21:54

I have looked lovingly in the window at Hobbs. Still have too much of a tummy at the moment but soon .....

pigletpower · 29/06/2012 00:15

Well, mmm, size 16 is hardly sylph like yet, wait until at least size 10/12 before putting anything too clingy on.

mayaswell · 29/06/2012 07:36

Is that tough love then pigletpower? No one has recommended disco pants I don't think.

OP well done on your hard work, I hope you dress for yourself first and get a lot of pleasure from buying nice things.

DollysDrawers · 29/06/2012 07:42

Well done Wolfie, you're doing great. Smile I agree that Hobbs and White Stuff have some lovely things at the moment. If you think you'll be losing more weight and don't want to spend too much on stuff you might not get much wear out of, I would go to Primark for now.

Piglet your comment was unnecessary. Go and piss on someone else's chips.

AmberNectarine · 29/06/2012 07:43

Ooh, saucer of milk for pigletpower.

Well done, OP! Have you considered posting over on S&B? There are some very knowledgeable ladies over there of all shapes and sizes who will be able to advise you really well, based on your shape and style. You will also avoid the wanky comments about not showing off your figure because you're not a size zero and will therefore offend the delicate sensibilities of some posters...

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 29/06/2012 07:49

have a look on Style and beauty as amber said.

Dont be so bitchy pigletpower - there was no need for that. People can wear fitted clothes that enhance their curves without looking like they are wearing a catsuit!

I am a 14/16 (still losing weight) and I wear all sorts of things. Tunic tops, jeans, dresses, fitted trousers, tops.

It depends on what I am doing that day. Dog walking, school run, usually trousers/jeans and a top (longer to cover tum) - yesterday it was very hot and I had a sleeveless shift dress on, just past my knee in length.

oh and well done on your weight loss.

DialsMavis · 29/06/2012 07:51

FFS piglet: the op might be 6ft talk for all you know, and regardless she has lost LOADS of weight and feels great. I always find bitchy, bullying people are really fucking ugly, from all the nasty thoughts that seep out (a la Roald Dahl)... Not much you can do about that though.

Well done OP, what are your best points? Mine is waist (but not tummy), arms and calves. My thighs will be proportionately huge even if I starve into an 8 Smile

newmum001 · 29/06/2012 08:08

If wearing leggings and a vest or t shirt i usually throw a checked shirt or similar over to top to hide my tummy (i'm still losing weight) its a comfy outfit but also looks nice. The beauty of losing weight is that you get to go shopping for new clothes. So set aside a whole day (if you can) and go in search of clothes you feel good in thst flatter you're new shape. And congratulations on you're weight loss :)

Cockwomble · 29/06/2012 08:21

Well, mmm, size 16 is hardly sylph like yet, wait until at least size 10/12 before putting anything too clingy on.

Hmm Aren't you just lovely?

SoleSource · 29/06/2012 08:31

Size 16 is a lovely size. Wolfie youve done fab. Ignore the pig.

Wolfiefan · 29/06/2012 19:17

Bitchy comments aside...
Thanks for all the positive comments. Even if I lived on 300 cals a day, I will never be a size 10. Tall and wide shoulders/hips. I also have boobs.
