to ask whether any 'plus size' MNers have ever been to Thorpe Park?

A few friends and I are thinking of going to Thorpe Park this weekend but I'm a bit worried that at my present, larger than I'd like, size I won't fit on some of the rides. Their website says they have a 51 inch torso restriction - does anyone know what that equates to in sizes? I am a UK 22 on the bottom and 20 on top.. I don't really want to go and be embarrassed by not being able to fit in any of the rides Blush

I know I am totally BU for posting this here really, but has anyone of a similar size (if you don't mind me being nosy?!) been to Thorpe Park and found it was OK to get on the rides?

I wouldn't get through the turnstile!

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 13:38

51 inches probably translates into the width one is when in the sitting position. We spread out.

Sit down and measure yourself around your widest part in a chair.

nickiminja · 26/06/2012 13:40

I don't know about Thorpe Park but I was a size 18 when I capsized the bloomin Fairybrook Glen boat at Legoland Blush

extremepie · 26/06/2012 13:42

I went with DH last year - he is 6ft 4 and on the cuddly side (approx 50 in chest) and he did struggle with colossus and nemesis but I think that was more due to his height than his chest as he had to fold himself in half to get on some of the rides!

The more popular rides have the test seat at the beginning of the queue so you can check before you queue up.

I think you would be ok.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 17:11

Did you measure? Just go anyway if you can. Take a rain mac for the log flume :) and the shyte weather.

Mintyy · 26/06/2012 17:15

yanbu

bubbub · 26/06/2012 17:25

i went when i was a size 18-20 to alton towers, i had a bit of brute strength to get me on air (boob issues) but was fine on everything else.
thorpe i went as a size 16 and it was great, but i tell you now, i wouldnt have gotten on samori or the pendulum one if i was my orig size!
the big rides have a big boy size seat, and a test seat (not that i think that is helpful at all once you have paid to get in, plus the cringe factor!) i am now a size 22, and wont be going till i lost weight as i am scared. i want to go to fright night in oct. please tell me how you get on!!!

Krumbum · 26/06/2012 19:26

I havnt been since I gained weight. I'm a size 22 with g boobs so I'm certain I won't get on them. Do you have big boobs? That'll be the clincher I think. I think even if you do fit though it will be incredibly uncomfortable to be thrown around when you are squeezed in, maybe even quite painful on things like nemesis or collosass.
They should put in a variety of seat sizes, it would make financial sense! Loads of people are bigger now.

Sarcalogos · 26/06/2012 19:28

I used to be exactly that size top and bottom.

I won't lie it was a bit of a squeeze but having been to lots of theme parks I never found a ride I couldn't actually get on.

EchoDragon · 26/06/2012 19:39

Am a size 24 GG boobs. Had to leave colossus as couldn't fasten the harness. Embarassing wasn't the word Blush. Tried the seat on nemesis wouldn't fit so didn't go on. Queue for the new one was huge so didn't bother. My husband doesn't like heights so didn't go on stealth.

My advice try the seats and avoid colossus.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 20:20

I had to get off the Revolution ride in Blackpool years ago. Humiliating.

VegansTasteBetter · 26/06/2012 20:31

YANBU, never been to Thorpe but can imagine the embarrassment! Try and measure yourself sitting as has been mentioned. Also remeber that fat is squishy and unless you are of huge norkage your chub should squelch around when you are fastened in and you should probably fit. Works for me (not in thorpe park though but in various theme parks)

Oblomov · 26/06/2012 20:41

Went recently. Live 2 minutes away from it. Was a very very large man on all of the rides. He managed. Can't see why you shouldn't. Dh is large, but as he is scared of heights, he refuses to go on all rides, so can't tell you anything about it re him!!

CoffeeDog · 26/06/2012 20:56

I grew up 5 minutes up the road and use to sneek in through the farm when we were young... (not there anymore)

You should be fine - you can check if you will fit in the seat before you get on but my sister is bigger than you and she went on everything ;)

Love the saw maze ;)

CoffeeDog · 26/06/2012 20:58

oooo Oblomov i will be hanging about the deli counter in chertsey sainsbury's asking all the mum's if they like naice ham ;)

callaird · 26/06/2012 21:26

Oblomov · 26/06/2012 22:02

callaird, aswell, dh too crept in. He used to creep into lyne and longross railway aswell. infact he crept into nearly everyhting!!

CoffeeDog · 26/06/2012 22:04

.. dont forget the viking boats ;)

ohchids · 26/06/2012 22:14

With the utmost respect to all the obese. How about not embarrassing your children by getting stuck in the seats. Take this year off to lose the 5 stones, and go next year, with respect for everyone, including yourselves.

Glitterknickaz · 26/06/2012 22:17

mmm nice....

ohchids · 26/06/2012 22:19
