To think my DH is asking too much re our holiday?

numbum · 22/06/2012 22:42

DH has just gone to bed in a strop after we've spent 2 hours searching for a summer holiday. I found lots of places I liked the look of. He, on the other hand, has picked fault with everything 'not close enough to the beach' 'looks like 80's decor' 'nothing for the kids' 'too far to fly' bla bla bla

So, his list of must haves are: all inclusive, on or across a road from the beach, lots of kids clubs/entertainment, more than one pool and preferably one kids fun pool, less than a 4 hour flight, modern(ish) rooms, not too British!

AIBU to think we're never going to find something with all these things? Or, you lovely ladies could help me so I can show him in the morning what a wonderful wife I am and have the perfect holiday for us all? Grin

Alternatively, tell him if he wants to be such a nit-picking arsehole he can find the perfect holiday himself and you go do something else

Would that work for you ?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/06/2012 22:47

Why can't he find the holiday? Since when did picking the holiday that matches his tick list become essential to being a wonderful wife?

I sometimes feel like I'm on another planet when I read these threads...

DumSpiroSpero · 22/06/2012 22:48

Notwithstanding the last point, Bognor Butlins has everything else you're looking for Grin!

Greenshadow · 22/06/2012 22:48

Is Turkey too far? There are loads of hotels that would fit that bill there.

Yama · 22/06/2012 22:49

Why does the holiday have to satisfy his list of demands? Did he ask what you and your dc would like or is he the 'decision maker'?

cece · 22/06/2012 22:51

My DH is like this. It is because he doesn't want to go on holiday.

Kbear · 22/06/2012 22:52

Budget?

squeakytoy · 22/06/2012 22:53

I can tell you exactly the place if that is your list. The only thing that is missing is all inclusive, but the apartments are huge, and the spar shop where you can buy a fridge full of soft drinks, crisps and snacks is really cheap and two minutes walk away.

We have stayed here a few times and it really is as good as the reviews say.

Here you go Arenal d'en Castell!

A short flight, more than one pool, a few steps from the beach (which is lovely, clear water, golden sand and in a sunkissed bay, beautiful when the town above is lit up at night), ideal for kids as it's not night-clubby and 18-30-ish but very family friendly with kids clubs and entertainment, probably a bit too British though as the staff at the hotels and shops all speak perfect English! The hotel I stayed at was the main, largest one there, about 9 years ago - basic but very clean and with very helpful staff.

AnnaMosity · 22/06/2012 22:54

He doesn't want to go

AnyFucker · 22/06/2012 22:56

squeaky I have been there Smile

Loonytoonie · 22/06/2012 22:58

Or, you lovely ladies could help me so I can show him in the morning what a wonderful wife I am and have the perfect holiday for us all?

Yep, we are. We are going to tell you that, since he's so impossible to please, that he should do it himself.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 22/06/2012 23:00

You could find all those things, as you as your budget was a large one.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 22/06/2012 23:00

As long as.

squeakytoy · 22/06/2012 23:00

Did you like it AF? I think it is great. The pool is huge, and heated! and the apartments were lovely with wooden flooring rather than the usual tiles, and spotlessly clean.

We always stay in Matagorda as we dont want a noisy hectic nightlife, (although Puerto Del Carmen is only five mins cab ride away for the big bars and clubs) and the small family run bars in Matagorda, the lack of traffic etc, is so relaxing.

It is so cheap to eat out there too that going AI seems pointless to us as well.

AnyFucker · 22/06/2012 23:04

the holiday was a complete disaster for other reasons, but yes I absolutely loved it

we had a villa thingie right next to the lower pool and it was massive

it was about 10 years ago though, so may have changed a fair bit

the floors were marble when we were there

AnyFucker · 22/06/2012 23:06

I still have the leaflet for the accomodation, because we said we would go back there one day

perhaps one day...

threetequilafloor · 22/06/2012 23:06

You should go without him, I hate all inclusive, another scummy buffet meal?

thatboysmum · 22/06/2012 23:07

This is in Turkey and has more or less everything on the list, we went this year and enjoyed it.

squeakytoy · 22/06/2012 23:13

We last stayed there about a year ago and are going back in September.

It has had a massive refurb in the last couple of years, so probably changed a bit since you were there. I would definately recommend it though. We have stayed in almost every place in Matagorda over the years, and that is definately the nicest.

We have stayed at the Playa Pocillos a few times, which is the cheapest place at the resort, at the top of the steepest hill, with the coldest pool, and the oddest people... last time we stayed there, we had the misfortune of being next door to Norman (Bates I think.. lol) (aged approx 45) and his mother who was in her 70's. They argued from early morning till he collapsed with vino overkill at midnight.. effing and blinding at her because she wouldnt give him money for drink. He was sat outside the apartment with his spar carrier bag of red wine at 8am each day. By midday, they were frying themselves by the pool. Him in speedos ogling any female over the age of 12, and her topless, frequently asking him to rub sun lotion onto her back.. Confused

We vowed never to return to those apartments after that week.. Grin

Trioofprinces · 22/06/2012 23:15

Club letoonia in Turkey is amazing, not cheap though. Loads of all inclusive sports and great food.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 22/06/2012 23:17

Jeez, do you think he's bothering himself right now with how to show you what a wonderful husband he is to you and not a moany nob that he is.

scarletforya · 22/06/2012 23:20

Crete has a thousand places like that!

numbum · 22/06/2012 23:22

Oh lighten up! He works away from home and works bloody hard all year and doesn't want to spend his hard earned cash on a rubbish holiday when he's got his heart set on something (and yes it's a joint account which I have access to and can buy things for myself with the money!). I personally just want to get away from the humdrum of being a SAHM and not have to do any cooking or cleaning for a couple of weeks.

And I'm not going to leave the bastard no matter how fussy he is over a holiday!

numbum · 22/06/2012 23:23

Forgot to say, am about to look up the places suggested. Thanks!
