To think my DH is asking too much re our holiday?

DH has just gone to bed in a strop after we've spent 2 hours searching for a summer holiday. I found lots of places I liked the look of. He, on the other hand, has picked fault with everything 'not close enough to the beach' 'looks like 80's decor' 'nothing for the kids' 'too far to fly' bla bla bla

So, his list of must haves are: all inclusive, on or across a road from the beach, lots of kids clubs/entertainment, more than one pool and preferably one kids fun pool, less than a 4 hour flight, modern(ish) rooms, not too British!

AIBU to think we're never going to find something with all these things? Or, you lovely ladies could help me so I can show him in the morning what a wonderful wife I am and have the perfect holiday for us all? Grin

I personally just want to get away from the humdrum of being a SAHM and not have to do any cooking or cleaning for a couple of weeks.

Well you dont need AI for that. We always go SC and I have yet to do more than make a cup of coffee or the occasional afternoon snack of bread and local cheese.. :)

We have stayed at many places where they have an AI option, and I have yet to meet anyone who has really enjoyed it. The food is usually very basic, of poor quality, and limited choice.

It is often cheaper (even with kids) to go self catering and eat out if you pick a resort where there are plenty of bars and restaurants competing with each other to attract the customers.

For example, where we stay, the average price for a full english breakfast is 2.5 euro including coffee, and many places do free or very cheap main kids meals so long as an adult is eating too.

Have a look at the Insotel Punta Prima in Menorca. You can go with Thomson / First Choice.

Why not go for something completely different OP?

Gorgeous old gite in Provence, with a private pool? You'll need to hire a car from the airport, and the dynamic is a bit different, but it's heaven!

You may even get a smile from your DH when he slurps all that french wine....

Numbum - why don't you go into a travel agency, give them DHs requirements and ask them for some quotes ?

OhDearNigel · 22/06/2012 23:48

Can I recommend the Hotel Baia Lara in turkey ? It ticks every one of your DHs requirements and we really loved it. this is my review. It's very highly rated on TA, we paid £900 for a week for 2 + a 2 year old, the all inclusive deal is excellent.

Finding a holiday takes ages - it was just me and my boyfriend who went this year and it took over a week to decide!

You'll find something eventually - maybe take a few hours this weekend to look together rather that you showing him things? I found that with DP if I said 'oooh I found this lovely place' he'd start nit-picking but if we were both looking and I said 'how about this one?' he was less nit-picky.

I don't think he's being unreasonable with what he wants at all and there are plenty of places that will suit his/your family's needs.

I know what you mean..

Have compromised now - one year we have dad's holiday...He arranges

next year we have mum's holiday.. I arrange

Here's another option for you: www.fiestahotelgroup.com/en/hotels/destination/spain/balearic-islands-ibiza/playa-den-bossa/fiesta-hotel-don-toni/

We went in half-term. On the beach, 2 pools, kids club (altho we didn't use that), all inclusive, free tickets to local water park (can order packed lunch day before from
Hotel), v short transfer and less than 3 hours for flight. We loved it. It's on the flight path but you don't really notice it after a day or two and so convenient and family friendly.

Good luck with the holiday hunt.

AnnaMosity · 23/06/2012 11:47

Punts prima is a bit of a shit hole

AKissIsNotAContract · 23/06/2012 11:50

The resort I have just come back from in Crete fits all your DH's criteria. We had a great time.

And there are some brilliant waterparks in Crete too!
