Wtf would it be rude?

It's personal preference. Definitely not rude.

catgirl1976 · 22/06/2012 20:12

It's rude if someone else cooked it and minds

If you cooked it, paid for it or the person who did doesn't mind, then no, it's not rude.

But putting it on cereal is odd and the only thing that should go on a lobster is loads of garlic butter IMO

Thankgodforcaffeine · 22/06/2012 20:12

Sooo rude!

MissRepresentation · 22/06/2012 20:14

you could argue that its equally as rude to expect people to eat there food as you like it rather than how they like it.

That said the ketchup thing would put me off, but I know I'll always need to add salt, even before tasting.

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 22/06/2012 20:15

I'm a salt offender! But ketchup is nasty anyway and no should eat it

mummymeister · 22/06/2012 20:16

my ds wont eat anything unless it has ketchup on it. have a house rule that he cant have it on roast dinner and he sulks but it is the only way we can get him to eat. imo if you are an adult and its what you like then have it. salt is different - more health implications. do you have it on puds as well OP

Trills · 22/06/2012 20:16

It's a bit rude to the chef/cooker-of-the-food to cover it in a condiment before you've tasted it.

It basically says "I know you won't have made this how I like it".

Noqontrol · 22/06/2012 20:17

Not rude.

slatternlymother · 22/06/2012 20:19

I agree with Trills. I don't mind when people do it, but I do think 'I don't know why I bothered when I could've just chucked pizza and chips in front of you'.

We did have one couple round where the DH did this. I did a lovely pot roast; lamb falling off the bone and I spent ages making a lovely gravy etc. I did feel a bit Sad to see my effort wasted. We didn't have them over again, but I don't know if that's circumstance or what.

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 20:21

tidydancer, some people inc myself would concider it to be rude if for example a lot of effort or expense had gone into the meal.

example that springs to mind a beef wellington that i cooked had it dumped all over it because thats how the person likes it then one day a lobster had it done, i thought this was effectivly saying 'i dont like it without' or 'your cooking is not good enough so i mask it with this'.

imho its like saying i have no regard for the expense or effort you have made if i had known this would happen i wouldnt have bothered making that effort and i would have not spent so much on the food i would have got a cheaper cut of meat.

but i quite like it that you dont find it rude can i send person concerned to tea at your please

My cousin put salad cream on Sunday dinners even though she as gravy

TheRhubarb · 22/06/2012 20:25

Ahem. Cereal.

Apart from that, I do find it a tad rude. My two have it but not on everything and they are children. I would find it rude if I had gone to a lot of effort cooking a lovely meal that was seasoned to perfection and someone just poured a load of ketchup all over it.

So, for kids it's okish, but for adults it's rude.

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 20:27

ahhhhhh no no no the person isant me i hate the stuff none of my kids eat it the smell to me is yuckky. i dont think its rude if on foods you would expect it to be on like chips and stuff or anything out of a packet but i get a bit funny about it on stuff thats taken a great deal of effort. and i dont think i could cope with the shame if i went to a decent restarant and it was asked for.

i prob wouldnt spend a huge ammount of time cooking it if that was going to happen and would just do quick stuff not the several hours stuff.

Trills · 22/06/2012 20:29

People have different tastes. Some might think that beef Wellington and ketchup go together delightfully, and that it's not "masking" the taste so much as enhancing it.

Still rude to do it before you've tasted it though.

Icelollycraving · 22/06/2012 20:31

Dh & I are salt offenders. It isn't even on the table at my sisters' or mum's & we are often nagged about it.

I would be a bit Hmm over ketchup if it was an adult.

Dawndonna · 22/06/2012 20:32

If somebody wanted to put ketchup on, for example, a spag bol, I think I'd throw it at them. I'd certainly throw a wobbly and more so if it were a meal that had taken a considerable amount of effort.

squeakytoy · 22/06/2012 20:33

Dont know about rude, but I cant see the point in ruining good food.

If I have ketchup, brown sauce, mayo or anything like that, I put it on the side of my plate and dip the food into it, rather than splatting it all over.

TidyDancer · 22/06/2012 20:35

Well I'm sorry, but I think if you're offended by something so silly, then you are being....well....silly.

It's just ketchup!

Noqontrol · 22/06/2012 20:42

Ketchup enhances food, much like salt and pepper. Smile

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 20:48

lol i was just asking what people thought.

im spending £19 a week on ketchup for an adult the only person who eats it and was intrested to hear what others thought if you think its rude fine if you dont then fine

OP posts:
Noqontrol · 22/06/2012 20:50

Cor blimey, £19? Now THATS unreasonable Grin

SPsFanjoHarboursDeadCats · 22/06/2012 20:52

I'd be telling that adult to buy their own!

Icelollycraving · 22/06/2012 20:52

£19? Do they have it like tomato soup?

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 20:54
