....emails addresses?

Shoot me but XXX-Bitch_troll@etc and XXX-smokes-dope@etc goes straight in the shred pile.

If you are too stupid to set up a regular email account for job applications then you are too stupid to employ. I find it more frightening they could possibly be on a jury or vote.

Yanbu I think, it suggests they don't take you or the role seriously.

surroundedbyblondes · 21/06/2012 21:25

I'm sure you will be told by some people that you are being discriminatory.

I wouldn't let that put me off completely if the CV was good for the job I was recruiting, but if the CV itself was crappy AND the email was unprofessional sounding then yes. In the unwanted pile.

YABU to just bin them though. Send them a three line template email, or get HR to do it for you. I worked in HR for years and always responded, even if I didn't select people. Now I am looking for work after being SAHM for two years and the number of applications that just go unanswered is plain rude. IMO.

NeverFearWonderWomanIsHere · 21/06/2012 21:26

YANBU. I have my regular email which is [email protected] and an email I use for job applications and other formal stuff which is [email protected].

more · 21/06/2012 21:28

yanbu, however I think it is better than those who get their mummy to apply for them (had a few of those).

Springforward · 21/06/2012 21:28

YANBU.

I'm sorry but I do the same but I'm recruting for a day nursery and would think that they should understand it doesn't create a very good impression. Although I do smile at the funnier ones!

COCKadoodledooo · 21/06/2012 21:31

I had a cv sent through to me entitled 'joebloggsbloodycvagain.doc', sent a polite email suggesting they renamed the doc for future use..

FourEyesGood · 21/06/2012 21:31

YANBU. Everyone should have a sensible email address as well as any "I'm so kooky, me" ones. It's just common sense.

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 21:32

more thats very annoying isn't it. Had a few of those too!

Hassled · 21/06/2012 21:35

I didn't recruit someone because her email address was something like [email protected]

JumpingThroughHoops · 21/06/2012 21:35

I don't know if I should mention the lady that came for an interview (no job advertised, just thought she should turn up and ask) with a pair of tortoises in a hessian for life bag, complete with lettuce.

Absolutely no problem with proactive jobseekers, jut the live stock made me wonder.

squeakytoy · 21/06/2012 21:36

well I dont suppose they would run around the office and be a nuisance if she brought them to work Grin

fireice · 21/06/2012 21:37

I'm surprised by how often this happens, even in people with professional roles, who use email addresses that would look more in place on a dating site.
If it is someone that I have supervising responsibility for then I suggest to them that something with just their name would be best, not a physical description.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/06/2012 21:38

I'll work for you if you like. I have ever such a sensible email address. It's got my name in and no rude bits. Unfortunately I may have to change it soon, as after several years of blameless use it's finally been discovered by all sorts of spammers and I can hardly find the real communications in amongst the adverts for Olympic tickets, money-laundering opportunities, psychics, and notifications that a parcel I haven't ordered has been delivered to a remote part of the USA and would I please send $$$ to release it.

I can write my own CV too, which is just as well, as I don't have a mummy. Be a kind soul and employ a wee orphan aged 53 ?

Dprince · 21/06/2012 21:43

YANBU. I had to sit and look at 350 CVs recently. Stupid emails addresses just puts me and my hr dept off.
I have only had one application sent by a mummy. The covering letter was all about how great she thought he was, what's skills she thought he might have etc. It was quiet funny until I realised he was 26.

workshy · 21/06/2012 21:43

I discount dodgy email addresses

I also discounted someone because when I rang them there answering machine on their mobile said

'hello...hello.....I can't hear you....hello...hello...this is a really bad line!
haha fooled you this is stupid arse so leave a message and I'll get back to you'

very proffessional Hmm

wildkat · 21/06/2012 21:48

The loveliest boss I ever had once employed someone partly because of their daft email address - they were lovely also, and it was a wise move...

JumpingThroughHoops · 21/06/2012 21:49

It's a competitive market out there. Little things can make a CV go straight in the bin discard pile.

Quirky I like. I don't even pay much attention to academic qualification if the skill set is appropriate. Common sense is must, hence daft email addresses get put in the discard pile. It's the little things that put job seekers to the top of the pile and called for an interview.

YANBU YANBU YANBU!!

I teach in FE and tell all of my students every year about this....

You WILL NOT get a university place to study Paediatric Nursing with an email address sexy.biatchxxx.hotmail.co.uk

They all laugh but you'd be suprised at some of the UCAS forms I still get for approval..............

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/06/2012 21:53

I recently helped DS sign up to the Apprentice Website (not the tv programe!).
I was impressed that they put a note up regarding email addresses. The said to bear in mind that the prospective employers would be contacting them via email so they should consider what sort of impression it gave.

DS's is an old one and its got 'gameboy' or something in it Grin. So he changed it.

Annunziata · 21/06/2012 21:55

YANBU, it makes me want to weep. My best-worst CV though, was the one which had a bullet point list of 'won't do's.' Unbelievable!

yellowraincoat · 21/06/2012 21:57

YANBU

It's ridiculous in this day and age when you can set up a new email address in 10 seconds.

Recently my school was interviewing for a new teacher (adult education) and about 80% of them turned up in jeans.

Weird.

exoticfruits · 21/06/2012 22:00

It should be fairly simple to know that you are shooting yourself in the foot before you start! I would rule them out without looking any further.

sayjay · 21/06/2012 22:00

YANBU
Slightly different, but I temped in an office once. The manger there used to put a note in the job advert to mark the envelope XYZ (or some made up code of her choosing).
Anyone who didn't mark the envelope didn't get an interview.
