I know IABU, DS1 (4) is going camping tomorrow until sunday with DH. Its been booked/looked forward too for ages. DH is a fantastic dad ...............so why do I feel sick to the pit of my stomach.

Doesn't help that DS1 is a bit under the weather and was teary tonight about going without me ( i have been very positive, smiley smiley to him).

I'll be at home with teething grumpy but adorable DS2 but going to miss him so much.

Go on tell me to get a grip, I need a slap!

Camping is an adventure for a 4yo. Issue DH with strict instructions to keep him warm. It's only for a couple of days. He'll be fine Smile

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 20:54

MirandaGoshawk - i've been trying tactfully to cover all bases but i'm being silly really, DH wouldn't let him come to any harm but i'm fighting the urge to send him with a list of instructions!

get a grip Grin, he is with his dad, he will be having a great time, and you can hog the sofa, tv remote and be dry indoors!!

NeverAgain2 · 21/06/2012 20:55

Don't give yourself a hard time. I would be feeling anxious too but it will be an adventure and he will be fine.

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 20:55

squeakytoy - oooh the tv remote to myself, not looking so bad!

Encourage this, and dream of all the free weekends you will have over the years to come, whilst the boys go off and bond with each other - bliss Smile

madmouse · 21/06/2012 20:56

My ds is 4 and we always go camping with him. He has complex special needs and can't walk unaided and camping gives him enormous freedom. He can't use his walker in the grass but he can crawl everywhere and spend ages doing nothing in particular because everything is so different from home. And campsites generally are very safe places where others will automatically look out for your child too. He will have a fab time.

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 20:57

BackforGood - good point, couple of year and all three can begger off for a boys weekend, feeling better already (until tomorrow!)

madmouse - glad your DS enjoys it, I know DS1 will love it. They are camping at a car festival thing, so also worried about him getting lost (resisted the urge to get him to wear a safety tatoo thingy, well he wouldn't wear one unless I pinned him down and then would scream until it was removed. He has some issues with plasters etc!)

I would send him with the list anyway!

CMOTDibbler · 21/06/2012 21:02

Just write dh's mobile with a marker pen on his arm - we always do that

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 21:03

CMOTDibbler will try, might sneak in when he's asleep and do it Grin

I took my DD (6) and DS (2) to Italy for a week on my own, whilst DW stayed at home taking a break. Everything was fine - kids had a great time. Nothing to worry about.

bigbluebus · 21/06/2012 21:06

My DH & DS having been doing this every year since DS was about 6 (he's 15 now and still looking forward to going this year)They love planning where to go and have a great time whatever the weather. It is a fantastic bonding opportunity.
I'm sure your DH will look after DS just fine - ok so standards may not be quite up to your mark but it is camping, so anything goes.
Enjoy the break from them and prepare yourself for the machine load of muddy clothes they will bring home

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 21:06

DrDolittle - i hope your wife didn't nag discuss lots of things with you concenign every worst cases scenario! I know DH is great, I'm not sure why I'm so worried!

Glow Sticks! from the pound shop, our lot love them when we go camping Grin

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 21:08

bigbluebus - thats really nice that at 15 he still wants to go, I hope my boys are like that when they get bigger

Quick tip to help with getting lost - write dh's mobile no on ds's arm with a Sharpie pen. Give dh the sharpie pen to reapply.

DrDolittle · 21/06/2012 21:09

OP - she was worried about a few things, and we talked about it, but I would be worried too if she went abroad without me :-)

I think maybe camping this summer.... :-)

BackforGood · 21/06/2012 21:11

I did find it hard some weekends when dh went away when the dcs were little, but gradually as each of them has started to join him, I really look forward to those weekends Smile.
My ds is going walking/camping with him in Aug, too - just the 2 of them. ds is 16.

How come you get out of going? I've always had to go, baby n all. Maybe should suggest he takes all of them, but then he'll just go on about family time!!! Love it really, just not so sure this weekend having seen the forecast! Dh still keen.

dribbleface · 21/06/2012 21:17

3duracellbunnies it was decided when i was heavily pregnant with DS2 and I thought 'that will be nice for DS1 to have some time with DH on his own', but now its here i feel a bit sick! Could have took DS2 but its very noisy there and would need him to wear ear defenders some of the time, and guessing he'd not like that! DS1 loves his ear defenders Grin
