Oh for heaven's sake! Part of the joy of literature and creative writing is the opportunity to explore alternative realities safely, without having to actually undergo the experience. Are you going to prevent teenagers from studying Romeo and Juliet because it depicts teen suicide? I struggle to recall a single literary text I have ever taught that doesn't have the potential to upset a student. And exercises like that referred to in the OP are a valuable tool in a deeper reading of the text.

I produced a Punch and Judy pantomime with 12-year-olds some years ago and at the dress rehearsal, the Head made us take out the scene where Punch is hanged for his crimes in case it would upset any of the parents Hmm I have since retired from producing shows, for that very reason.

gcse, religious studies, religion and morality question 2 elderly and death - various aspects of death, including euthanasia. assisted suicide and reasons why people might want to commit suicide would be discussed. i've never set that exercise but i think it could be very meaningful for pupils.
