I am a sahm- i chose my path because it was what both my dh and myself had when we were younger- feels natural to me. I had a good career which I could return to when I please. I love having time with kids, being part of pta etc, no way would I say my friends who are working mothers are wrong etc- its their choice, they make time for their children in different ways, plus financially they may need to work altho a few of my friends who do work are not in this catagory they just choose to work.

I feel a bit put out that cherie thought that sahm are a bunch of 'yummie mummies' who has comprised their womens lib status!

I know there has been a lot press regarding the harm working mothers have on their children but i think thats a load of rubbish, I am not advocating either decision I just wish sometimes people would keep their controversial opinions to themselves as they effective make one side feel crap!

It's televisual daily hate. Best ignored.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/06/2012 11:09

YABU just to care what they think!

doggiemumma · 20/06/2012 11:10

YABU for watching that drivel!

Cockwomble · 20/06/2012 11:12

I shall judge you to hell and back for watching "Loose Women"

valiumredhead · 20/06/2012 11:14

You're worried about what dippy Cherie says?!!!

Petsinmypudenda · 20/06/2012 11:14

She willingly married Tony smug faced twat bag Blair, she is unfit to judge anyone

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 20/06/2012 11:17

What gets me is the difference between people who have to work because their job earns them good money and they therefore have to work to pay the mortgage etc and those that were on a crap wage prior to having kids so to put children into nursery and continue doing poorly paid job only to be £50 better off a month (once nursery fees are paid)and obviously realise they'd be much better off being a SAHM.....spend time with their kids and sod the 50 quid! Think people assume SAHMs are yummy mummies who don't have to work when really many simply realise thay are no better off working and might as well SAH! This is different to yummy mummies whose hubbies earn eleventy million pounds and therefore don't have to work. Sherrie is prob jelly belly cos she had to work and feels guilty!

Petsinmypudenda · 20/06/2012 11:21

It was originally said by Cherie Blair here

Birdsgottafly · 20/06/2012 11:21

She hasn't criticised SAHM, she has advocated not making being a mother and your appearance the sum of your life/interest. This can on the back of opening a new refuge for homeless women and women fleeing DV.

You don't follow her description.

In the same speech, she talked about her mother being abandoned by her father at a time when SM were judged and had little choice.

She is saying that it is a same that not all women have or are taking advantage of the choices that they have.

She also has recently been active in the opening of an internet cafe for women in Afghanistan, so they have access to knowledge and a way to communicate with the outside wrold.

Squitten · 20/06/2012 11:22

Aren't SAHM's likely a large bulk of their audience...? If so, that was a bit stupid of her wasn't it...

YABU for letting their opinions irritate you so much!

WorraLiberty · 20/06/2012 11:22

I just wish sometimes people would keep their controversial opinions to themselves as they effective make one side feel crap!

I see

So you thought you'd start this thread to court some more 'controversial' opinions or do you really care what some random actress thinks of your parenting choices?

LentillyFart · 20/06/2012 11:23

YABVVVVU to even watch that crap - it's televisual incontinence at it's absolute worst. Turn the telly off and do something with your time that won't make you feel crap and/or irritated.

Squitten · 20/06/2012 11:24

X-post

Oh Cherie Blair! Meh - considering her choice of husband, I doubt she's best placed to criticise anyone else's life choices!

Birdsgottafly · 20/06/2012 11:24

There is another thread on it.

It doesn't appear that many posters are aware of her work in Human and womens rights, prison reform and many new policies for women and their babies whilst in prison.

spammertime · 20/06/2012 11:25

What gets to me is people who make judgements about anyone working or not working, whatever the level of salary they may or may not earn!
Op you are doing what is right for you - ignore any other comments - unfortunately some people justify their own choices by belittling others instead of giving just standing up for themselves.

You are being vair vair unreasonable in watching that drivel, though

PandaWatch · 20/06/2012 11:26

I was at home yesterday and watched this. Were we watching the same programme? That Carol whats her name basically said that it's a myth that a lot of working mums work because they have to and then that you should choose between having a career and having kids and it's selfish to think you can have both. Then that one from Birds of a Feather said she would never trust a childminder. Everyone in the audience cheered them both. Not sure where you're getting that they were knocking SAHMs - I thought it was the completely opposite!

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 20/06/2012 11:27

I am a SAHM. I really couldn't give a shit what that lot on Loose Women think of me- they talk out their arses.

I wonder if anyone could point out to them though that people watching them on TV at home (like say erm.... SAHMs) actually keep them in a job? Hmm If no one watched their shitty programme it wouldn't be aired.

LentillyFart · 20/06/2012 11:28

To my way of thinking Cherie Blair, Tony Blair or Lionel bloody Blair can criticise what the fuck they like - I just ain't listening and I don't care. Why does anyone? These people are not on the same planet as most of the rest of the population. They are driven to share their fuckwittery with us whether we like it or not - and I don't. I think if you're going to let the opinions of half-headed politicians, big titted slebs or washed up actresses upset you then you need to sit yourself down and have a quiet word.

PandaWatch · 20/06/2012 11:29

Oh and the presenters were Carol Vorderman, the other Carol, the one who gets her boobs out loads and the one from birds of a feather - there was no Sherrie

valiumredhead · 20/06/2012 11:31

I really don't give a fig what anyone thinks of the decisions that dh and me have made for our family. Up to us what we do.

LentillyFart · 20/06/2012 11:32

Oh Grin ffs - it wasn't even Cherie Blair? Why can't people at least put accurate information in their OPs?

I'm off to rest my blood pressure.
