Then they should actually ride it?

Not scoot 1 minute to the bus stop, get on bus with scooter, hitting everyone in the process, get off bus and scoot 30 seconds to the school gate??

What is the point?

There were 7, yes 7 scootering DCs on the bus this morning, they all got off at the bus stop outside the school, 30 seconds from the gate.

Surely if you live too far to walk and you have to take the bus dont bring a scooter

YANBU. What a pain in the arse.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 20/06/2012 09:09

I just don't see the point really, why bring it and not actually ride it??

getupgo · 20/06/2012 09:12

YANBU
possibly the parents showing off, look my kid can ride a scooter
except they dont ride them
quite annoying on a busy bus to be surrounded by 7 scooter centrepieces

bronze · 20/06/2012 09:13

Maybe they're planning on scooting home

manicbmc · 20/06/2012 09:24

I don't reckon school would be too happy about having to store all those scooters until home time. More likely to be parents who can't say 'no' to their kids.

Birdsgottafly · 20/06/2012 09:27

The buses were i am, insist that they have to fold, perhaps email the bus company and have then adopt this policy?

Folding scooters aren't anymore expensive and they fold flat.

3duracellbunnies · 20/06/2012 09:36

Our school is quite happy to store scooters but mad to just scoot to bus stop, depending on how far away bus stop is. Maybe they are scooting home. Is the school uphil?

How do you know how close they live to the bus stop?

They should be folding them though.

Our school is happy to store scooters, there is an area specifically set aside for them to be stod on the grounds.

Sparklingbrook · 20/06/2012 09:45

I thought the scooters were just for the Mums to carry. Grin

ddubsgirl · 20/06/2012 09:46

ugh and in town aswell, few weeks ago a small child stopped dead in front of me on scooter and i nearly went over the top of him! why do kids need to ride them around the shops?

they are spose to be banned from school playground and kids get told off if caught riding them in there,my mates little boy got hit the other day by a girl on one he fell backwards and lucky stopped himself from hitting his head on the floor, the mum of the girl came running over made a fuss of her child didnt even say sorry to my friend or her boy.

takingiteasy · 20/06/2012 09:52

I was all for scooters and I'm sure I called the last person to moan about them on here unreasonable but I've fucking had it with the stupid fucking things.

There's a group of p1's with them. These kids are 5. They can't control the scooters. They have no easy to use brake and I'm sure they are designed for older kids. I'm actually petrified going in the school gates it's a total bottle neck and all you hear is there scooters racing up. I use a sling for my baby and I'm terrified I'm going to get knocked down. When I do use the pram it gets bumped.

I don't want to be a total moan and speak to the school but its getting really mad. These kids are driven to school and scoot the minute over the road and into the playground. So stupid.

Whoneedssleepanyway · 20/06/2012 09:52

YABU how do you know how far they live from the bus stop.

Scooters have been a godsend for us, my DDs scoot to school/ nursery every day.

I agree it is a pain when children don't know how to scoot properly and scoot into people etc, but if they are properly supervised I don't see the problem.

Our school has a bike shed for bikes and scooters, I think they should encourage this as much better than being driven to school.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 20/06/2012 10:03

I'm all for scooters as well...until I see 3 DCs aged 6-9 come out of their house, scoot for 30 to the bus stop, get on the bus and then get off 5 minutes later, scoot 30 seconds to the school gate, hand their scooters to their parents and go to school.

I see this happen every day on my way to work.
I see DCs getting off the bus outside my DCs school, scoot for 45 seconds, and hand their scooters to mum.

They do not scooter home.
They are too young to ride to school alone
Their parents want to take the bus to school

why bring the scooter

nappyaddict · 20/06/2012 10:10

Is it reasonable to scoot to the bus stop if the bus stop is a 5 minute walk?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 20/06/2012 10:12

No.
The school catchment is so small, no one lives more than 10 minutes away.
You don't need to take a bus.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 20/06/2012 10:15

No I don't mean for your area I mean in general.

TandB · 20/06/2012 10:18

I hate our scooter. Whenever we go for a walk DS1 whinges to bring it. I have to carry it until we get to the one stretch of semi-pavement in the village. He then scoots for about 50 feet and then I carry it round the corner onto the virtually traffic-free dead-end road. He scoots for about 100 feet and then gets off because there is a hill and refuses to push it so I carry it the rest of the way.

I am going to ebay lose it.

Whoneedssleepanyway · 20/06/2012 10:20

I think they are more unreasonable for getting the bus to school if they only live 10 minutes away

manicbmc · 20/06/2012 10:27

I'm fed up with having other peoples' parenting choices thrust on me.

If a child can't manage a 5/10 minute walk and they are school age, I'd take them to the doctor.

takingiteasy · 20/06/2012 10:27

Kungfo why don't you just say no?

AnyoneForTennis · 20/06/2012 10:30

Ridiculous! Seriously, kids can't walk these days?

Our school playground has banned them. Too dangerous

Some parents need to learn how to say no to their little darlings and stop indulging them!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/06/2012 10:42

Do kids not really use them then? We've got a half hour walk to school from September. The last bit is up a steep hill. I was going to get dd1 a scooter. The school have scooter racks so wouldn't need to take it back home. I know I'd have to carry it up the hill but was hoping she'd scoot the rest of the way.

nappyaddict · 20/06/2012 10:44

I find a bike better.

GrahamTribe · 20/06/2012 10:49

I'd happily incinerate every scooter in the and. Grin If they're not whacking legs on buses because parents can't say no to their little darlings they're careering into people on narrow pavements or hacking around supermarkets and indoor shopping centres. What is wrong with so many parents who seem to think that their little darlings' whims must be indulged despite the inconvenience or injury it causes to other people?

And if I see a another scooting child riding into an elderly woman as she tried to protect her little dog on the pavement as I did recently I will personally take the scooter off the child and throw it in the nearest skip! Angry
