to have sobbed watching My Sister's Keeper?

I'm not talking about the odd tear seeping down my cheek but proper crying. I was glued to the TV, at the same time as wanting to turn it off. I cuddled my dog (because I don't have kids) and text my mum to tell her I love her before going to bed. I felt emotionally drained!

I watched it last night too..but wasn't crying at the end..I was cross!! The book has a completely different ending..why why why change it!?

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 18/06/2012 09:35

I didn't see the film either, but sobbed reading the book.

Am hiding thread now as if film has different ending I don't want to know.

crashdoll · 18/06/2012 09:37

I knew the ending was different and still cried like a baby, especially the part where Anna asked Kate if she'd wait for her in heaven. Sad

Yanbu, it is an emotive subject.

But the book is superior by far to the film.

crashdoll · 18/06/2012 09:38

Oh yes, the book was fantastic and actually, I found the film a little bit cheesy.

I cried too.

Such a beautiful narrative to that film. I assume it comes from the book, haven't read it.

Cameron Diaz was a poor choice for the mother though. She wasn't believable enough. Like Susan Sarandon in stepmom was brilliant when she was dying. You really believed she was a mum. Cameron is too moulded for comedy acting.

AngryFeet · 18/06/2012 09:43

The only bit where I cried on the film was when Kate and her mum ate together at the end and the mum realises her daughter is actually dying and starts crying. The book was much sadder and better.

StripyMagicDragon · 18/06/2012 09:43

The film disappointed me, I think I expected way more. Which was unrealistic of me. But it does still pull the heartstrings.

blapbird · 18/06/2012 09:59

I love this film it makes me feel really grateful that my sister's are healthy, happy and grabbing life by the balls, the first time I saw this in the cinema, I sobbed uncontrollably, all the way through and at the end of the film I went to wash my face in the toilets and there were 20 other women, all in tears!!

takingiteasy · 18/06/2012 10:03

Love the film but the book is much better.

I went to the cinema with a friend to see this and people were proper sobbing, like hysterical at the end. I got the giggles because of the mad noises people were making. Was very awkward.

Mrsjay · 18/06/2012 10:05

I had recorded it got up to the scene with her at the hospital prom with her boyfriend i was sobbing and my bloody sky had a recording clash and it stopped Shock what happened in the end and what is the bookending I didnt like the book,

weatherrain · 18/06/2012 10:18

In the film Cameron Diaz came across as a bit mad/unlikable and favouring Kate over Anna. In the book her struggle was portrayed much better, especially how Anna came to be used. She never planned for it that way (except for the cord blood) and it happened very gradually over time because she couldn't let Kate die when there was a solution there in Anna.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 18/06/2012 12:15

I liked the film but again agree the book is much better.

I do think though that Cameron Diaz played her part well, she was a desperate woman thats for sure but then you would be wouldnt you.

Was not prepared for the different ending!

googleberry · 18/06/2012 12:55

I've just gooled the ending of the book, oh my god that's so different and so sad, I'm in shock, i normally like reading the books first but not sure if I could get through that one x

Mrsjay · 18/06/2012 13:01

I googled both endings i think i preferred the films ending tbh

badtime · 18/06/2012 13:04

The film ending at least doesn't depend on an enormous coincidence. I always thought the book ending was a massive cop-out - basically an unusually tragic deus ex machina.

valiumredhead · 18/06/2012 13:06

YABU the book was drivel and the film even worse.

It was just horrible I did finish the book but I found i couldnt read my sisters keeper properly after reading the Pact

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 18/06/2012 13:36

Try Diane Chamberlaine....she is a superior version of Picoult - her books are amazing!

valiumredhead · 18/06/2012 15:32

Betty funnily enough I described her as the same at my book club. She is everything JP wishes she was! Have you read The Midwife's Tale?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 18/06/2012 15:35

Yes I have and I loved it, one of the best ones....actually,. they are all good. I have all her books, 3 unread and there hasnt been one I didnt like so far.
