To laugh at the PA Facebook updates

PatheticTrumpet · 17/06/2012 21:23

From "friends" on my FP page I would dearly like to delete but feel drawn to keep them so I can laugh at their PA updates! Its the CPA ones that get my palms itching for a whitty response - have to reach for the wine so as not to blow my cover!

OP posts:
spammertime · 17/06/2012 22:18

God I have a friend who's terrible for this... "decisions, decisions, what shall I do?"
"what hun?"
"can't tell you yet!"

Then a week later

"decision made... not the right time"
"for what hun?"
"can't say"

Oh do fuck off then (is what I'd like to say, but I do normally really like this person)

MsKittyFane · 17/06/2012 22:18

:o

deepfriedcupcake · 17/06/2012 22:33

Thank you StepOutOfSpring, I shall take that compliment as a direct challenge and from now on post suitably cryptic comments to friends' shite posts.

paperclips · 18/06/2012 00:25

Ha ha ha this is so true irritates the hell out of me too and makes me laugh at the same time.

But the ones that really make me cringe, are like:
"really missing someone today,,, sitting at home on my own crying Sad"
Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but that stuff doesn't belong on facebook, makes me uncomfortable to see people use it for stuff so personal. Call me old-fashioned.

Oh and people reposting stuff about angels and how many angels you know, and "do you believe in angels". Bluurrgh.

bogeyface · 18/06/2012 00:50

I had a PA status update aimed directly at me. I was so happy as it meant I actually understood what it was about for a change :o

"One day I will understand why some people are so cruel....."

We had had words (she was {is} a spoilt stroppy PITA who had taken the piss once too often)

I deleted her. Really could not be arsed!

bogeyface · 18/06/2012 00:52

paperclips someone I was arguing with on a thread here a few days ago used a great phrase; emotional incontinence.

I disagreed with the point being made but I love that phrase, I would say that 90% of FB-ers have that!

MarkGruffalo · 18/06/2012 01:01

OP Facebook is the devil's work. Delete yourself from its clawy grasp! Grin

Krumbum · 18/06/2012 01:09

It's very funny and I feel very sorry for these people thinking their lives are so interesting and mysterious. It's quite a child like attention seeking thing to do. Your right though, can't delete them gotta read them for some comedy every day!

ravenAK · 18/06/2012 01:26

'I think certain people should have a good look at themselves, before getting drawn into shit-stirring. it makes me sad for them - have they nothing better to do than wind people up? I'm so glad I have real friends on here. It's probably about time I had a cull of certain people who just post annoying cryptic shite. They know who they are.'

'Oh hun, you sound stressed. What's up? I think I know who you mean btw'

'Can't say on here, but yes hun, I bet you do know them, she said something about you actually too. You have PM'

etc, etc.

I've eliminated them all except for one whom I keep for comic relief - she's a sort of human 'PA status generator'. No idea why she added me - think she's vaguely a fan of dh's band...

Most of FB is not like this!

MissTapestry · 18/06/2012 02:58

I particularly hate hashtags.

"cnt bliv ow self centrd sum ppl r, karma wil cum n byt u on da Rs %23jeezidnoyibothr"

Hmm Sorry, what?

MissTapestry · 18/06/2012 02:59

Eh? MN don't do hash tags? Please replace random number/ % with a hash tag Grin

GoldClass · 18/06/2012 08:27

The ones I hate are "5 years ago today I was counting the mins between contractions" and ends with "my darling DD/DS arrived and mummy and daddy love you to the moon and back"

And they post the same shite birth story every fecking year!

peggyblackett · 18/06/2012 08:30

I was hoping PA was for Peter Andre

LikeaPairOfNunsKnickers · 18/06/2012 08:36

Yet another disappointed Peter Andre thread groupie here ....

EasilyBored · 18/06/2012 09:03

I have a relative on FB who posts in text speak, but also in a Scottish accent. It's usually some variant of canae wayt ta get on it/get pished/till jiro day (her words, not mine) or complaining mysteriously about having no money or her boyfriend annoying her. It makes my eyes bleed.

hackmum · 18/06/2012 09:11

I hate all the following:

  • passive-aggressive: "Well, at least I know who my true friends are."

  • enigmatic: "I had a terrible day." "Oh, what happened?" "Can't say on here."

  • declarations of love for DH, DD, DS etc.

one-track mindedness. I sometimes can't believe the number of FB "friends" who only* post about their cat, or their kids, or the animal rights campaign they belong to.

  • boasting about one's own successes or, worse, one's kids' successes.

  • wearing your heart on your sleeve: all those "I miss you so much, Dad" on Father's Day etc.

moral homilies. Actually, this is the one I hate more than anything else. I have a friend on FB (not a real life friend) who only* posts words of wisdom about how the secret to happiness is knowing yourself/following your dreams/not following the crowd/being content with what you have etc etc (a lot of these are mutually contradictory). These really make me feel murderous.

Have probably missed some out. It makes me wonder why I'm on FB!

DailyMailSpy · 18/06/2012 09:21

I know I should just ignore but can't help myself sometimes, if I see cryptic messages with a reply of 'can't say' or 'doesn't matter', I have to comment that they obviously do care that everyone knows their business otherwise they wouldn't post attention seeking cryptic posts.

bogeyface · 18/06/2012 09:35

So MN-ers, whats to be done?

Shall we all undertake to fight this PA nonsense by replying to each and everyone of the status updates with something completely non-PA and sensible?!

"Some people are just so selfish. Glad I know who my real friends are...."

"Yes I am glad too. Could you please go and discuss your problems with them instead of posting cryptic the messages that the rest of us either dont understand or dont care about? Thank you."

bogeyface · 18/06/2012 09:35

I suppose we could be AA to their PA? Wink

janelikesjam · 18/06/2012 09:36

very interesting /amusing. Like Hackman's list!

I am not on FB. The thought of sending any of those messages (love you, sitting here crying, had a great day, just been into the kitchen) seems bizarre for me.

But some people find it all great fun, though it seems from here laughing at the posts rather than, er, with them ...!

kittyandthefontanelles · 18/06/2012 09:44
manicbmc · 18/06/2012 10:06

I don't know about the PA ones - I just eye roll at them and ignore.

I'm finding the tagging people in photos a bit shocking. Someone from my friends list was tagged next to a big pile of coke! Shock

claudedebussy · 18/06/2012 10:12

i can't stand it.

attention seeking crap. i ignore.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 18/06/2012 10:18

I have a very boasty person on there, all appearance related.

'Got model scouted AGAIN today, yeah right u just wanna stick ur dick in me' etc.

Pinkshoes2 · 18/06/2012 16:50

I think it brings the worst out in people from what i can make off it. Whats the tagging thing is that just naming the people in your pictures?
TheOriginalSteamingNit, That girl doesn't half sound bigheaded!
