to be disgruntled that Lindsay Lohan (terribly sad fucked up individual) is playing Elizabeth Taylor in a movie?

It just seems disrespectful to Liz somehow.

How can this hopeless whippersnapper be the right casting?

Lohan is a great actor. She's not shallow just because she's a bit out there in real life.

Are you talking about Sherilyn Fenn, lolaflores?

Thumbwitch · 18/06/2012 16:13

Grant Bowler is playing Richard Burton.

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:14

That's the woman. Don't you agree she is the image of Liz? When was the last time she had a proper emotion given the quality and perhaps quantity of products either in her face up her nose or down her cake hole? Perhaps a quality she shared with Liz...but I don't rate her. Sorry. But then I think alot of modern actresses lack substance. I sound like a Dowager Empress but from the height of my judgey platforms thats how it looks down there

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:16

Christ alive, Grant Bowler? Why? Hope he does a stonking accent. Mind you his eyes are the right level of bad boy twinkle.

yellowraincoat · 18/06/2012 16:16

She looks like Liz, she's a great actor, but doesn't mean LL is not.

Just because she's into drugs doesn't mean she doesn't have emotions.

yellowraincoat · 18/06/2012 16:17

And besides that, does an actor need to be an emotional person to be good? I'm not sure that follows.

Thumbwitch · 18/06/2012 16:19

Maybe Sherilyn Fenn is just too old for the timing of the film, she's 48 now (but yes, she did look a lot like Liz Taylor)

Thumbwitch · 18/06/2012 16:19

Sorry, 47, it's late for me, can't add this late.

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:21

Raincoat I mean the ability to channel emotion. Not being emotional but perhaps emotional intelligence and the ability to reflect that sufficiently for people to feel for you and with you. Her drug use would surely deaden her ability as well as the botox, implants that distort her facial muscles?
LL is a poor actor in my opinion as her negative private life over shadows any talent she may have. If she has not already squandered it.

2shoes · 18/06/2012 16:21

I like her. hope it might mean things will get better for her.
she is probally a good choice as she was a child star just Like ET

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:22

LT had far more delicate features than LL, not a chisled face but a very distinctive oval face, the eyes, the mouth. Very difficult to do with just make up.

yellowraincoat · 18/06/2012 16:23

What's negative private life though? How does it affect her as an actor? Many of the great actors had the same sort of negative publicity (mostly women, unfortnately) Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor herself.

2shoes, I thought you were talking about ET as in Phone Home...confused.

Thumbwitch · 18/06/2012 16:25

lola, do you have similar issues with e.g. Drew Barrymore? Just wondering, really.

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:26

LT lived in different times though. The press was a bit more reserved and were held at arms lenght by the studio's. The stuff we know about other actors these days from that period are long after the fact. No one woujld have known at the time through biogs and what have you.
LL just looks like a hopeless loser. Stuff gets leaked about her for whatever reason. Not got the gravitas to carry the role off.

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:27

Yep, Drew Barrymore, she of the acting legend family. Plenty better actresses out there. What was her last good film? The same for LL.

diddl · 18/06/2012 16:30

YANBU-purely for the use of the word disgruntledGrin

That pic in the link reminds me of Princess Margaret.

Mintyy · 18/06/2012 16:32

I think LL lacks gravitas. Her reputation is so extreme that it will be difficult to forget it (for me, anyway) whilst watching the film.

Did any of you see the programme about Liz taylors actution of her diamonds and 'stuff' MY GOD that woman liked a rock or 3 Grin she was amazing and vulgar but she didnt seem to care did she, I am failing to see the star quality of L L i just don't get it , shes like Britiney spears of the acting world a Disneykid gone wrong

yellowraincoat · 18/06/2012 16:37

I dunno, the stuff written about Marilyn Monroe was pretty much the same as what's written about LL these days.

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:46

I don't remember Marilyn Monroe stealing, doing time in prison (nearly) drunk driving or her mother and father getting in on the picture of family in fighting. and so on. Different times.

Mintyy · 18/06/2012 16:48

Marilyn Monroe died a month before I was born but, as I understand it, most of the scandal didn't become apparent til quite some time after her death?

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 18/06/2012 16:49

There was plenty of scandal re multiple partners, drugs, alcohol in the papers.

Sure, different times, but those things were plenty scandalous for the time,

lolaflores · 18/06/2012 16:57

But it hasn't had the impact. If LL died tomorrow (God forbid but she plays a very close game) would she become mythologised ala Marilyn Monroe. I don't think she would as her reputation has been too besmirched and sadly she is not nearly as accomplished., Mind you she is younger than her though. so hey

yellowraincoat · 18/06/2012 17:04

I don't want to go on and on about Marilyn Monroe, but she was utterly tainted. A lot of people said she was a shit actor, she wasn't taken seriously at all.

Mintyy · 18/06/2012 17:05

Ah, I didn't know that it was all out in the open when she was alive re MM.
