I felt a bit like that...until I went to see it and got all excited! I have no idea why but the atmosphere was lovely and it was just a great experience being amongst so many happy people.

Also we don't live any where near London and won't be able to go to see anything but now the dc think they've 'seen the Olympics'!

stookiesackhouse · 15/06/2012 19:01

I have just seen it and was more pissed off that I couldn't cross the road to get my Metro Blush

Gumby · 15/06/2012 19:01

But it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the flame facepalm

manicbmc · 15/06/2012 19:04

Dp had to get the Metro as his bus was delayed because of the damn stupid flame.

tittytittyhanghang · 15/06/2012 19:08

YANBU. I saw it the other day, (everybody got time off to go watch it so wasn't gonna pass up an opportunity for a paid skive :)) and what an anti climax. The amount of entourage was shocking. (And no doubt costing a pretty penny!)

Funsponge.

Choufleur · 15/06/2012 19:12

I don't care - it's a major pain and cost for me at work as we have to organise all the local publicity around it.

Sallyingforth · 15/06/2012 19:32

"But it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the flame"

It's a flame from a cheap gas ciggie lighter mounted in a fancy holder. One of 8000 of them being taken around the country.

Once in a lifetime? You are easily impressed.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 15/06/2012 20:25

Ignore it then.

SelfRighteousPrissyPants · 15/06/2012 20:30

It's up to you, can't say it's something to be bothered about.

I did take my 4 year old to see it in the pouring rain today cos everyone told me it was a once in a lifetime thing. I enjoyed it more than him but I guess he can say he saw it at least.

Mandy2003 · 15/06/2012 20:38

They have turned it into a load of corporate wank.

A few days ago a young athlete was supposed to be in the relay and he got chucked out so some celebrity could carry the torch in order to please the sponsors.

The Nazis started the 'tradition' of the Olympic flame to portray the worthiness of the Aryan race to continue the Olympian heritage or some such shite. (Godwin! Godwin!:o)

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 15/06/2012 20:45

YABU. I know two people that are being torchbearers and it's a big deal for both of them. Both of them are well known in their local areas, both of them are disabled, both of them deserve a little chance to inspire others with their achievements against the odds.

Plus it's fun.

It's arriving in a week's time at the main road through our town. Was planning on walking up to see it but have found out all I will see is a parade of cars. The actual walking with the torch is not continuous...am I naive to have assumes it would be carried all the way?

Clawdy · 15/06/2012 21:49

assumed

EndoplasmicReticulum · 15/06/2012 21:52

My boys' school decided that as it was too much trouble for them to take the children to see it that they would in fact close on the "torch day" so that we could take the children instead. Fine. Except we're at work.

So now the children have a random day off, my husband has had to rearrange a day's holiday, and w're not going to take them to see the torch, for the same reason as school stated (long wait, nowhere to park).

Did all the "once in a lifetime opportunity" people get up early the other week to see the transit of Venus? That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
