for thinking DS was lying dead in house

This morning I went out as usual. DH works from home so he was in before I left.

Usually before he leaves he has his routine he takes the key out of the front door from the inside (so that no-one can get in overnight). Anyway, our cleaning lady pitched up while I was out with the kids asking me to come home - she can't get in she says they key is in the door on the other side. I came home with the children and told her to go and get herself a coffee while I tried to get in touch with DH. Spent an hour trying to call him and no answer.

Then I thought maybe he is at the gyms (where he usually goes to unwind) - called: no he is not there; maybe he has gone food shopping - not there either - still no trace of him. Then my mind starts wondering - what if he is in the house and something has happened to him (who knows he could have fallen down stairs / had heart attack). He is usually so predictable I can set my watch by him - so by now I have visions on my head. So I called the police - I was sort of expecting they might appeal to my rational self and say he will probably be okay but they said it sounded worrying they would send a police car.

Next thing I know there are 4 police outside my house threatening to break the door down.

They manage to climb over neighbour's fence. As soon as they do this DH calls and says "AliGrylls I got your messages. Is everything alright". The police were lovely and said it was not a waste of time and at least he is alright.

However, It has left me feeling like a twat and wondering if I over-reacted. And more to the point I can't believe I have posted this shameful experience on mumsnet.

Maybe he was inside with the local masseuse...

McKayz · 15/06/2012 18:24

I can't believe the police would come out after just an hour or so.

imnotmymum · 15/06/2012 18:24

AliGrylls · 15/06/2012 19:22

Sorry not got back. He was in the gym with a treadmill. Don't know what the receptionist was when I was on hold. It is not easy to climb over our fence. He had left the house with the key on the inside of the door so I could not turn it.

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 15/06/2012 19:24

So all that drama and he was on the treadmill Grin

cheesesarnie · 15/06/2012 19:29

hope he's made dinner to make up for the drama

Gumby · 15/06/2012 19:32

Can you get mnhq to change your thread title?
It's kind of upsetting & overly dramatic

Youvebeentangoed · 15/06/2012 19:35

Surely you could of listened through the letterbox to hear whether his phone rang from inside?

If there was no ringing, he was obviously out.

I personally wouldn't of rang the police over that. But I WOULD be having words with him about leaving the door locked in such a way that I couldn't get bloody in.

usualsuspect · 15/06/2012 19:36

How was he intending to get back in?

LynetteScavo · 15/06/2012 19:43

So how did he leave the house locked, with his key in the lock? did he go out the back door?

seeker · 15/06/2012 19:48

I think he was a snowman. Was there a carrot and 6 bits of coal on the doorstep?

usualsuspect · 15/06/2012 19:49

Did he climb out the window and shimmy down the drainpipe?

cheekybarsteward · 15/06/2012 19:50

How the hell did you check that he hadn't gone food shopping?
"Hello, Mr Tesco store manager, is my husband there?"
Huh?

AliGrylls · 15/06/2012 19:55

In our house it is possible to lock the house from the inside and then go out through the garage. The only thing is that you can't get back in through the garage. Our house is quite deep so I would not have heard his phone ringing if he was upstairs or in the kitchen.

I felt like such a twit and I was sort of hoping that when I called the police they might tell me I was overreacting but for some reason they seemed quite happy to come out. I think in our area there is not very much for them to do in relation to proper policing work.

He was intending to get back in the front door.

He is cooking dinner and I am going downstairs now to eat it.
