Just been to buy some - Free Range - medium - box of 12 £3.09.

How is it that they seem to go up each week almost?

I like eggs - we have got through the dozen I bought on Monday already.

They do seem to have gone up in price

JumpingThroughHoops · 14/06/2012 17:31

I dont know where you buy yours but I bought 18 for £1.49 (small)

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2012 17:32

Compared to meat they are fabulously cheap for protein - cheapest you can do I think

Can you get a couple of chooks ? I have 3 and get 21 eggs a week - they cost me a tenner a year ago so they've more than earned their keep Grin

shrimponastick · 14/06/2012 17:33

Jumping These were from Sainsburys.

Where do you get them so cheap? Are they free range?

ChippyMinton · 14/06/2012 17:33

You're paying too much. I pay £1.10 for 6 free range in the local Londis, or 80p if I get them from a friend's farmer mate complete with poo.

shrimponastick · 14/06/2012 17:33

I was considering adding some to my Abel and cole order, but just looked now and they are £2.09 for 6!!!!!

M and S very large eggs are sooooooo yummy poached of egg and soldiers .... Think they are £2.09 for 6

oldraver · 14/06/2012 17:35

I get mine from what we call the 'egg house'..someone who has a few chickens. I pay £1 for half dozen £1.70 for a dozen... they are lovely some have bluey shells but DS likes the white ones Grin

Dropdeadfred · 14/06/2012 17:35

Oh xposted.i don't think a couple of quid for 6 delicious free range eggs is too pricey

shrimponastick · 14/06/2012 17:35

Laurie I am off meat a bit at the mo, so probably will eat more eggs.

I think there is a farm nearby which sells some, I have seen a sign - will have to check them out.

would keep some but don't have a large enough garden!

I pay £3.29 in Waitrose for a delicious dozen free range, worth every penny to me. Everything has gone up in recent years. Hurrah for pasta.

2shoes · 14/06/2012 17:37

wow get 1/2 dozen free range for £1

Mabelface · 14/06/2012 17:37

I pay around 1.70 in Aldi for 15 free range eggs.

Frontpaw · 14/06/2012 17:38

I think I paid over £4 for a dozen organis free range in waitrose! I was thinking, 'if compare the price of an omlette with a slab of meat' but I think they do work our dearer!

LadyKooKoo · 14/06/2012 17:39

I get mine from Tesco, 6 medium free range was 89p up to a couple of months ago but they are now £1.16. I don't mind. Eggs are fab!

Anyway, they have gone up due to the fact that there is high demand on eggs and lots of farms have stopped producing due to the EU changes on how battery eggs can be farmed as the majority of eggs in food production will come from farmed hens.

LineRunner · 14/06/2012 17:40

Asda have 6 free range for £1 at the moment.

Takver · 14/06/2012 17:44

Wow, that's a lot! I pay £1.35 for 6 free range eggs from our local wholefood shop (medium), I think when they have organic free range they're more like £1.50 / half dozen

Or DD's friend sells for £1 per half doz - but his mum buys the feed Grin

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 14/06/2012 17:44

What the hell are they? Golden eggs?

Half a dozen free range eggs £1.20 round here.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/06/2012 17:45

There is apparantly a national egg shortage due to so many farms folding after battery hens been banned. So price has gone up.

BloooCowWonders · 14/06/2012 17:45

Local huge eggs from our WI market are £2.60 for a dozen. And really huge! Sometimes they don't fit into the box properly :)

Best to avoid supermarkets for things like this...

PurplePidjin · 14/06/2012 17:46

Depends how much it costs the farmer to look after them properly, surely Hmm

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 14/06/2012 17:47

Not all free range eggs are equal, though. I like those blue ones with the very orange yolks - they're almost £2 for six! I don't buy them that often.

Cheapest eggs are the ones you buy at farm gates and whatnot.

BetterOnACamel · 14/06/2012 17:51

We get Happy Eggs (large x 6) from Ocado @ 1.95 (Tesco price match + they're usually on offer) - they're such great eggs, really yummy yolks and have been great for baking too.

I love eggs though

Boiled with soldiers (must be a 'dippy' egg though)
Scrambles
Omlette
Hardboiled in a sandwich
French toast
In a cake
