Yuck at all this judginess. Especially when it's nothing to do with anybody else what people called their OWN children. Hmm

kitsonkittykat · 14/06/2012 17:26

Shudder.

YANBU

usualsuspect · 14/06/2012 17:28

I like bubby boo GrinI called mine all sorts of weird and wonderful names when they were babies.

My cat is now my ickle babba

PollyLove · 14/06/2012 17:28

I hate lil man and babies being called sexy. But I am guilty of calling my DD sausage, baba and my little angel Blush

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/06/2012 17:31

I don't understand Bubs and Bubba - it just makes me think that their baby is a tiny version of Forrest Gump's friend.

MammaTJ · 14/06/2012 17:31

I call my DD my little princess! I call my DS my little dude or little man! Why not? IT doesn't hurt anyone.

NarkedRaspberry · 14/06/2012 17:33

But you don't put it on threads PollyLove. Except this one obviously Grin.

Aww thanks usual he particularly likes it when I sing it at him Grin

5madthings · 14/06/2012 17:38

its not a new thing, my grandma has always referred to babies as 'bubs' or 'bubba' or 'babba' i dont like it but i DO have nicknames for mine and call them allsorts, sausage, miss mouse for dd and yes i do occasionally call her princess Shock

i dont like hearing people refer to children/babies as sexy, thats just wrong imo, but cute, adorable, handsome, cheeky monkey, fat pants, sausage, chunky monkey etc etc, all names i have used for mine as babies, they all seem to be growing up fairly normally and have come to no harm, tho i do wonder if dd will grow up with gender issues as i often forget and say 'good boy' when she does something helpful, ditto going through all my childrens names before i get the right one for the child i am actually talking to, so nicknames are better actually it can mean any one of them depending on which nickname it is :)

TandB · 14/06/2012 17:38

I clearly have no class. Grin

DS1 was "DS1 the Boo", and "DS1. The Baby," like "Neil. The Baby" in Gavin and Stacey. He is now "DS1. The Boy." or Little Man or Wee Man or Little Man Boy.

DS2 is The Bungy or Bungy Pants or Bungy Boo Pants. Also Little Man Baby or DS2 Baby.

TandB · 14/06/2012 17:39

And my grandad called me Jane Anne Teacake. My name is not even Jane-Anne.

I am scarred for life.

It's the word tot I hate... for some reason I get sent a Tesco parenting magazine every couple of months and they can only refer to children as "tots", urgh.

5madthings · 14/06/2012 17:43

yes dd will be the baby forever and ds2 gets called fruitcake, ds3 and ds4 get names with bug in, doodle bug for ds2 and roodle bug for ds4! i dont know why i gave my children names actually they are rarely called them! Grin

CurrySpice · 14/06/2012 17:45

It makes me stabby.

I call the dc all sorts of frankly insane sounding nicknames but I wouldn't use them outside the privacy of our own home

But surely the worst is "the hubster"

LentillyFart · 14/06/2012 17:45

Gosh - I'm afraid mine was a Bub, my brother's still is a Bub (both over 18 now!!) and their Grandfather is a Bubba. Can't see that it's anything to anyone else though? How is it? L'il man is pretty naff and I wouldn't use it but I'm not sure I'd slate someone else for it.

Love that Gavin and Stacey thing - Neil. The baby. Grin

axure · 14/06/2012 17:48

Here in NI it's wee man / wee woman, I personally dislike both. Almost as bad as Black Country 'babby'.

LiviaAugusta · 14/06/2012 18:02

One of my friends has recently had a baby and calls her child 'Munchkin' in a high pitched voice all the time. Obviously she's doing no-one any harm etc etc but it does make me judge a little inside every time I hear it. Maybe I'm just a miserable mare, my two are variously Baggage and Monkey!

PrettyPrinceofParties · 14/06/2012 18:03

I use little man and hubby. DS most often gets called Pickle though.

Can't stand bubba, bubz etc and nearly vomited with horror the first time I heard ex sisterinlaw refer to my day old nephew as sexy. It wrong I tell you. Very wrong.

TandB · 14/06/2012 18:05

It's funny how many people think other people's nicknames are rubbish and tacky but that their own are perfectly acceptable.

I'm in the unfortunate position of being entirely unable to judge anyone else's choice of names given the list of shame I posted above. Grin

PrettyPrinceofParties · 14/06/2012 18:06

Also pisses me right off that a friend of mine keeps calling me 'mummy' now. I'm not your mummy though am I? And don't get me started on 'poon' instead of spoon.

And breathe.

5madthings · 14/06/2012 18:10

do people really only use nicknames in their own home but not out and about? ds1 is 12 and i call him by his name when out, i used to call him theodorable when he was little, he would KILL me if i did that now! but my younger ones dont mind, so in the playground after school i will shout 'doodle' or roodlebug and my 4 and 7 yr olds dont bat an eyelid, they know i am calling them, equally ds2 is 9 and i may shout fruitcake, when i want him to stop playing football and get on with coming home, it is actually helpful as there is another boy called oscar who he plays football with and if i shout oscar then the wrong boy may come over! :)

i dont care really as long as its not stuff like sexy baby etc :)

PollyLove · 14/06/2012 18:12

Oh and I probably shouldn't mention that I call her gorgeous and expect her to answer, as though it's her real name...
I'll let myself out Grin

squeakytoy · 14/06/2012 18:26

My youngest stepdaughter was the baby of the family for quite a few years till her mum had another child, and was known to all the family as Bubba.. she is 25 and still known as this Grin
