I have Hedrined. Just hoping that will get the bastards and I can stop scratching.

I did briefly panic about the crabs thing Blush but apparently they're completely different (according to Internet)

I caught them off my nephew, didn't realise why I had an itchy head as I'd never had them before, spent two months itching, and a trip to doctors who didn't get what it was either. Realised when I saw one in dd's hair. When I found out what it was, only then did my sister tell me her ds had had them about the time I caught them! my head was like a flea community farm!

klaxon · 13/06/2012 07:31

Lueji they can survive dormant for two years - cat fleas. The only solution is to have your house fumigated - the council will do it for about £50.

OnlyWantsOneTwoAndThree · 13/06/2012 07:33

currently in our house the child comes home with nits EVERY OTHER FUCKING WEEKEND from sbxh her father, the cat has fleas which wont go sob sob sob

but i tell you, if some shitting little creature gives me the WORMS i will kill them

im 31 weeks PG, can you imagine

"yes, now when you feel the contraction, PUSH" OUT POP TINY WORM

geminitiger · 13/06/2012 07:44

I got them off my DD (I hope), who is not yet 2. Didn't realise that they could get them that young and was completely oblivious as to why I had an itchy head until I saw several small 'bugs' in her hair one morning. Two treatments later and she of the fine blonde hair is clear (daily checks) and I am still suffering!! Can someone please recommend something (NOT Full Marks) Blush

MinnieBar · 13/06/2012 07:47

UNCLEAN!! UNCLEAN!!

Wink

I had them a few years ago before I had children. No idea how I caught them. One fell out at the table when I was having lunch with parents, I said 'my head's been itching a lot, is that a louse?'
My mum said 'Oh no, they look completely different' Confused and as we were eating outdoors, in summer, I just thought it was some beastie.

I got married a couple of weeks later, god knows how many people kissed and hugged me? ooops?

billybeau · 13/06/2012 08:26

I think you mean lice. Nits are the eggs.

QueenofJacksDreams · 13/06/2012 08:38

I'm currently scratching with the 3rd time I've got caught lice from DD Sad She'll be clear for about a week then come home with them again a lot of parents at her school just don't bother treating anymore. Angry

I can recommend overnight Hedrin as its the only damn thing that seems to get rid of the evil little bastards.

Just in case anyone's unaware you can get headlice treatment free for anyone who's exempt from prescription charges on the NHS pharmacy first scheme it also covers lots of over horrible things like worms.

mangomadness · 13/06/2012 08:40

Just a side note, lavender is good for preventing flea infestation and it smells nice too :-) just spray your pets with lavender water the fleas hate it.
I found a louse once that had hopped over from my sister, I was 12, the memory has stayed with me I was that traumatised. For the next 10 years I nit combed my hair at least once a week, thankfully never found another one and I've got over the combing obsession!

That's what they need Rabbitee...Frontline and worming tablets Grin

My Dad used to threaten to dose us up with Bob Martins since it worked for the dog!

fluffyanimal · 13/06/2012 09:45

AF I am with you on the worms. I'll see your 'emerging from the anus' itch and raise you a 'crawling into your fanjo' itch.

EW EW EW. i will never forget the horror.

bronze · 13/06/2012 09:48

AF you have my sympathy
I always keep worms treatment in the house since a similar incident ugh ugh ugh
My children don't do nits just fucking worms (too much)

fluffyanimal · 13/06/2012 09:49

Yes, Dropdead, I didn't actually twig it was worms until it realised the itch was travelling...

fluffyanimal · 13/06/2012 09:50

Until I realised.

girlpancake · 13/06/2012 09:57

I found out i had nits when the HAIRDRESSER told me so. I could feel her combing my hair very gently while I was sitting at the sink waiting for her to start washing it. Then she told me very kindly and gently that I had to leave because she couldn't have me in the salon. And I had to get up and walk out with my hair still a total mess. SHAME

MammaTJ · 13/06/2012 10:07

The nitty gritty comb really is the best treatment. A very cheap and cheerful conditioner, slapped on wet hair and combed through repeatedly. Do this every 2 days and they will soon be gone.

QueenofJacksDreams · 13/06/2012 10:10

Fluffy WTAF?! Envy Envy Envy < boak face I'm now going to suffer with wormy paranoia every time I get thrush Envy

zanywany · 13/06/2012 10:14

I'm trying to get rid of nits/lice from my DD at the moment and a few people have recomended a few drops of tea tree iol in water and then spraying it onto the hair. Aparantly they don't like the smell so I am hoping it will keep the buggers away not I think hope her hair is nit free.

Dawndonna · 13/06/2012 10:25

My children have also shared everything with me. I've had nits more times than I care to think of. Oh, and that includes sodding high school where you'd think the parents would have had long enough to learn how to deal with the damn things.
Not had for two terms now, so fingers crossed!

MistyRocks · 13/06/2012 10:28

girlpancake Shock Shock Shock i Would Have Died.

there is a notice up in the barbers i take ds too saying that if headlice are discovered on a child they won't be able to cut their hair. even though i check dc regularly for them i dread one day going there and being made to leave.

Vajazzler · 13/06/2012 10:37

geminitiger and anyone else still suffering... I have very thick hair and no one who will sit and spend 2 hrs combing me with the nitty gritty. I use Bob Martins flea shampoo on myself Blush Its not particularly nice but it gets the job done in one go. I make sure i rinse it off thoroughly and condition loads after. Was recommended to me by my auntie who is a doctor.

Changethatbulb · 13/06/2012 13:48

Vajazzler I am not a lover of nitty gritty combs. They are crap unless you have very short hair in my opinion.

My DD's hair is shoulder length and wavy. I cannot get the Nitty Gritty comb though it.

Dead easy to use it on my sons shorter hair though.

I stick to tea-tree oil shampoo and conditioner (Home Bargains/Pound Shop). I don't know if it is down to that but we have not had nits in ages.

My DS2 had worms recently. That really did make me go ewwww! Shining a torch up my sons arse was not one of my finest moments but necessary.
