To think that if you can't remember to take your 8 year old home from the pub then you can't be trusted to run the country?

I feel sorry for them. Imagine how they felt when they got hOme and realised she wasn't with anyone. Utter terror.

Also they were with two other families so I expect there were more than 2 cars involved.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 11/06/2012 08:30

YABU. Boringly predictable people will use this to have a go at the PM

enimmead · 11/06/2012 08:30

Couldn't see Obama doing this with the secret service.

I also can't see why they didn't just walk to the pub.

PrettyPrinceofParties · 11/06/2012 08:31

'Tis true. I don't think the coalition government works and think that David Cameron is a bit of a knob.

That asside, I thought the story would make an interesting debate. The bit about him not being responsible enough for his job was tongue in cheek, but it does raise the question of whether he's able to count to three.....

Also, there are two parents here, so why is everyone only blaming Dave? Can Samantha not count to 3 either?

QuickLookBusy · 11/06/2012 08:32

They're talking about it on radio 4 now.

Lots pf people saying theyve sone the same thing including two drs who left their three week old Ds under the table after their pub lunch.

Cockwomble · 11/06/2012 08:33

yabu

Whatmeworry · 11/06/2012 08:34

Papers have known about this for 2 months, why is it being released today?

Good point.

storminabuttercup · 11/06/2012 08:35

But this family are Out with bodyguards, surely that means they are more at risk than you and I? More reason in my opinion that you check all children are accounted for.

If a teacher left a school child on a school trip there'd be questions!

You are out with kids you check where they are.

galletti · 11/06/2012 08:35

I think the Protection Officers need to be pulled up on this one as well.

QuickLookBusy · 11/06/2012 08:35

Sorry for typos. Bloody iPhone.

Enimmead maybe it was raining? Maybe they couldn't be arsed to walk? Who knows.

Tee2072 · 11/06/2012 08:37

"The story could prove embarrassing for the prime minister, coming on the same day as the government relaunches its £450m troubled families programme."

This is why it's coming out now.

ouryve · 11/06/2012 08:37

I think I'd notice if my 8 year old wasn't with us.

The each parent thought the child was with the other idea doesn't wash, either.

QuickLookBusy · 11/06/2012 08:41

I expect it hasn't been in the papers because it's none of our business really. Nancy is a child and there are usually press blackouts with this kind of thing.

I expect the press have got around it by saying its a story about Cameron rather than his dd.

enimmead · 11/06/2012 08:42

Should have come out over the Jubillee weekend.

Samantha should have checked as well - but it happens. No one is perfect.

Just surprised by the protection officers.

Iggly · 11/06/2012 08:43

As much as I cannot stand DC, I'm not that bothered. I'm sure he was too sloshed on his 3 glasses of wine to be bothered and I bet he leaves it to Sam anyway. joking security cocked up.

It sort of adds to his whole "chillaxing" attitude really. It's not enough to further increase my loathing towards his running of the country simply because it can't get any worse

cory · 11/06/2012 08:45

I can think of plenty of reasons why David Cameron shouldn't be running the country. All to do with his politics, none with his parenting.

HumphreyCobbler · 11/06/2012 08:46

"Turning a simple 'head count' error when the family were travelling in two different cars, a lapse which happens to lots of perfectly attentive and loving parents, into a character issue is really really pathetic.

Honest to god I get depressed at the depths we plumb. The family have lost a much loved child. Is it really necessary to jump at every single cheap shot."

I couldn't agree more Pagwatch.

Exactly Cory!

HumphreyCobbler · 11/06/2012 08:53

I actually agree - although am a tory. I am terribly depressed by the ability of both sides of the political divide to confuse the issue with sneering hatred.

TwoIfBySea · 11/06/2012 08:54

Guardian can barely contain their glee, what a nasty, vindictive article but shouldn't expect anything less. I'm not a Tory fan, most definitely not Labour, await the cheap shot in PMQT from them - Balls will be ecstatic.

Let's concentrate on something important to go all cat's bum face on rather than a 2 month old non-story.

Can't bear him for his politics but really, doesn't this just show they are normal flawed people like the rest of us?

Not sure the PR is all that bad if it can make someone like me feel sympathy for himGrin

JoanOfNark · 11/06/2012 08:57

Actually I think its the first story I've read that makes him seem slightly human, and I actually like him a little more for it, not less.

Get over yourselves, none of you is perfect.

Pagwatch · 11/06/2012 08:58

I agree with that too HumphreyCobbler.
Not least because when every issue - trivial, important, policy, family - gets mixed in together and treated as equally valid then the real issues get ignored.

It is why the big political story of the last few months was Pastie -gate. Ffs.

We have a recession, a crisis at every turn, families struggling etc etc and we get Pastiegate.
We chose that when we don't give a toss about the subject matter just bring on the cheap shots.
