ClaireBunting · 08/06/2012 16:14

ClaireBunting · 08/06/2012 16:16

You've just inspired me to buy the MP3 album, thank you. :)

MarySA · 08/06/2012 16:32

I love that Coat of Many Colours, too. Also that film Steel Magnolias she's in. I always say I won't cry and I always do.

Mrsfluff · 08/06/2012 16:33

My I love her, she's very witty. d a fantastic songwriter. i have one of her tracks as my ringtone Grin There is nothing wrong with Islands in the Stream - I played it at my weddinBlush

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 08/06/2012 16:37

Welcome on board, puds! She is the business, Dolly is. She is v underrated/treated as a bit of a joke, IMO probably because of the self-created ridiculous look and persona.

Do see her live if you get the chance. I've seen her a couple of times and she reliably brings out the good quotes/jokes ('It takes a lot of money to look this cheap' etc) Grin.

She also sings Little Sparrow a capella, and frankly if that doesn't make the hairs on your neck stand up and make you cry, then you're clinically dead.

MammaBrussels · 08/06/2012 16:37

Has anyone here ever been to Dollywood? I really want to go but DH won't even talk about it.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 08/06/2012 16:38

No, but a girlfriend and I have a long-standing ambition to go and have been talking about it since we met when we were 22 or so.

We're now talking about doing it for our 40th, in about 3 years. That's how long it's been and how old we are

ClaireBunting · 08/06/2012 16:47

I've been to Pigeon Forge, where Dollywood is, but DH would have none of it. He was more interested in the sideshows. And it's a dry town, so best move over to Gatlinburg.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 08/06/2012 16:51

HOW COULD YOU GO TO PIGEON FORGE AND NOT GO TO DOLLYWOOD?

Yes, I know I'm shouting. Grin

I'd trample over my DP. Then again, my DP would probably be quite up for a trip to Dollywood.

ClaireBunting · 08/06/2012 17:00

I was outvoted! DH and DSs wanted to play on go-cars :( and I needed a drink.

Wolfgirl · 08/06/2012 17:05

most people are closet Dolly fans. I came out a good while back though... couldnt keep up the denial and pretence! Just looking out for a good 'over-ma-bed' poster now! Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 08/06/2012 17:10

Not good enough. Grin

CrunchyFrog · 08/06/2012 17:14

She's great.

Now, go listen to Iris DeMent and EmmyLou Harris and Alison Krauss.

And John Prine, who is the love of my life.

iseenodust · 08/06/2012 17:14

YANBU She is a woman of substance but wears it lightly.

lovebunny · 08/06/2012 17:23

well, it has taken you a while. she has some good songs, or had, in the seventies. and she's a nice, generous person. i can understand that people might love her. well done you.

ClaireBunting · 08/06/2012 17:25

It's even worse than that, LadyClarice - we've been on holiday there twice, for two separate weeks.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 08/06/2012 17:30

I can't take any more, ClaireBunting. Talk to the hand.
Grin

ClaireBunting · 08/06/2012 17:32

Nor did we go to the Grand Ol' Opry when we were in Nashville, although did manage the shopping mall next door.

ZillionChocolate · 08/06/2012 17:33

Love her too. Narrowly missed Dollywood, didn't have time and couldn't justify going when it seemed to be mostly rollercoasters
