To think when you get to a certain age, you have to choose between your figure or your face as you can't have both

Someone told me this the other day, it had never occurred to me before. So basically if you keep your figure, your face looks a bit haggard. Or if you have a bit more weight on your body, your face looks better. Is this true? So which one will you be/are? Or Aibu?

Yep I agree with Holly. Bestest thing ever. I look just like me, but not tired and haggard.

I pay £350 for 3 areas (forehead, 11s and crows feet) twice a year.

I make DH look positively ancient

"Really, who makes up this stuff?

You are either blessed with youthful genes or you aren't (though a healthier lifestyle, without booze, fags and drugs helps).

Its bollocks.

I can't believe anyone actually buys into this crap."

Agree with this.

Shutupanddrive · 08/06/2012 18:38

bagofholly and catinboots how old are you if you don't mind me asking? And can you move your faces?

OP posts:
catinboots · 08/06/2012 18:53

I'm 32 - but worked outside for ten years.

I can move my whole face - wiggle eyebrows up and down etc.

Just no more angry 11s, stripey forehead or crepey skin round eyes

catinboots · 08/06/2012 18:54

Started at 28 BTW

Tempting! (if I could afford it)

But if you've got a big fat arse and more rolls than greggs who cares a rats ass about your face..

Pandemoniaa · 08/06/2012 19:32

It depends on how thin, I think. When I was a size 6 (5ft 8 tall, by the way) in my early 50's, people thought I was suffering with some sort of possibly terminal illness. I thought I looked rather fab. Having seen the pictures I realise that I looked like a walking skeleton. Luckily, I inherited my mother's cheekbones and lack of wrinkles. But for sure, I look a deal healthier and younger now I'm a size 10. Even though I'm 58.

Enragia · 08/06/2012 19:33

No

Mandy2003 · 08/06/2012 19:52

Hmm. I have neither figure or face. Don't think I ever have TBH

Annunziata · 08/06/2012 20:00

An Irish friend of mine says that you either widen or wizen Grin

Can you choose? I'm definitely getting tubbier and it's not like I eat any junk food or don't exercise.

I agree to a point. Was at an event last week and there was a super fit lady there with no boobs (she runs marathons and stuff) and when she said she was only 40 I nearly dropped. She is stick thin and was wearing a lovely dress but her lack of boobs and gaunt face aged her - I thought she was late 40's.

Angelico · 08/06/2012 20:05

Mind you, she's so fit she'll probably live to be 800 :o

FiftyShadesofViper · 08/06/2012 20:08

Well I am an absolute porker so am sure I could lose a good amount and look better, however I think there is maybe a point where this becomes true.

I have a friend in her late 50s who has always been around a size 14-6 and has lovely skin. Another woman locally was a schoolfriend of hers (same year) and is part of the local "you can never be too rich or too thin" brigade, she looks at least 10 years older.

ArthurandGeorge · 08/06/2012 20:08

I worry about this a bit now (will prob have botox when I finally finish bf ds). I am 34, size 6-8. When the weather was nice I had some denim shorts on and feared that I was a 16 from behind but a 60 from the front sort of woman!

I def. think that I look a bit haggard and think some of it may be due to being pretty thin but this is my normal size, I have never been any bigger and really don't want to eat unhealthily in order to gain weight.

BillyBollyBandy · 08/06/2012 20:15

Bunny I agree with you. I think at your natural weight whatever that may be, people will look at their best.

I think accepting that your shape and perhaps weight will alter as you get older is the important thing. If you are having to diet to get back to your old clothes size/weight you start to looked more aged.

Plump faces are associated with youth, that's what all the collagen and estrogen does I believe. That is why people tell me these days I have lost weight when I haven't, my cheeks are getting slimmer and my cheekbones more noticeable. Bye bye youth

noddyholder · 08/06/2012 20:22

If you over diet and exercise you do look hard post 45 ish. I look 'prettier' (ykwim) a bit heavier but my clothes look crap!

marriedinwhite · 08/06/2012 20:24

Yes but billybollybandy in my 20's my natural weight was 9.2 (8.7 on a good diet), in my 30's 9.9 (9.2 on a diet), in my 40's 10.7 (9.13 on a diet), and in my 50's 11.6 (10.12/13 on a diet). Only ever had the thin face at sub 8.7 though. At nearly 52 I say the extra oestrogen is the culprit Blush. The saddest thing is that in my 20s I thought I was fat, in my 30s I thought I was fat, in my 40s I thought I was fat. How I yearn now for my 40s Sad.

cybbo · 08/06/2012 20:24

Both my face and my figure have long gone down the crapper

noddyholder · 08/06/2012 20:25

Grin I bet they haven't you are almost as vain as me

bessie26 · 08/06/2012 20:29

I always thought it was referring to smoking - i.e. if you smoke you will be thin, but have a wrinkly cat-bum-mouth face. Or you could stop smoking get fat and be (relatively) wrinkle-free.

10 years ago I decided to go for the fat option Grin

cybbo · 08/06/2012 20:32

nah nodders I'm deffo on a slippery slope, since I turned bastard 40

noddyholder · 08/06/2012 20:33

I will be 47 this year its a nightmare. Dp keeps saying he may move abroad(without me) once the big 50 comes
