My cats won't starve, just this once...

I'm just a few minutes in the door from work, my boss got home late due to the weather and offered to drive me home to save me from a long walk in the rain. I took my meds as soon as I got in and went to feed the cats, only to discover that I have no cat food. I was going to pick some up on the way home but completely forgot. I was sure I had two packets left for them both but it turns out I was wrong.

The nearest shop to me is a Tesco about 20 minutes away by bike. I'm crap on the bike on a good day, I think if I was to hop on it now in the torrential rain with my meds about to kick in and knock me out, I'll go headfirst into the canal
and the cats will eat each other while they're searching for my corpse. i don't really have any other options, I don't eat meat or fish and I'm out of the fake meat so I can't fob them off with that. I couldn't even feed myself right now if I wanted to.

Am I a terrible person? They're both really fat.

are you sure they weren't switched at birth, so you have a cat's soul in the dog, and a dog's soul in the cat? Grin

TantrumsAndBalloons · 07/06/2012 21:57

:) maybe they were.

DeathMetalMum · 07/06/2012 22:06

My mums cat loves yoghurt she will wait for you to pass her the finished pot so she can lick the leftovers.

witchface · 07/06/2012 22:10

Seriously? If you're going to have a pet you have a responsibility to look after it.

SaggyCeratops · 07/06/2012 22:14

everybody runs out of something sometimes! This time it was cat food! It hardly makes the OP the feline version of Jack the Ripper, does it?!

witchface · 07/06/2012 22:28

So what are they going to eat tomorrow morning then? Of course everybody runs out of things but if you own a pet you need to feed it! If you run out of food then you go out and buy some more. If you can't get out you need to get someone to do it for you.

By the way if the OP was they feline version of Jack the Ripper then she would be a cat who goes out and murders cat prostitutes which hardly applies in this scenario

SaggyCeratops · 07/06/2012 22:30

Oh get a grip. The op can go out in the morning, and buy some cat food!

Can they snack on some passing mice? My cats also like cereal!

puffinnuffin · 07/06/2012 22:41

Forgot to add our cats are farm type cats so used to catching things (although wish they wouldn't!).

TalkinPeace2 · 07/06/2012 22:49

Old cat was very partial to roast potatoes
current cat likes bread crusts

whatever you give them, hide it so they think they stole it !!!

crazynanna · 07/06/2012 22:53

My cat loves tinned sweetcorn Blush is she chavvy weird?

JollyBear · 07/06/2012 22:56

Witchface The op fed her cats porridge. They can have a bowl in the morning which will set them up nicely for the day.

Cats I've had over the years have been partial to crisps, peppers and cheese. As a 10 year old I made some salt dough loaves for my Sindy house kitchen and my cats ate them. They were very thirsty afterwards!

MissTapestry · 07/06/2012 22:57

They'll be fine for one night! Mine likes toast, chips, pizza, strawberry milkshake* and Chinese. Grin

*disclaimer- not all cats are lactose intolerant and I only discovered mine isn't cos she stole my milkshake and didn't get the shits! Grin

LST · 07/06/2012 23:03

Mine will eat anything. Pasta with butter is a winner Wink

But failing that no.. Leave em be. They won't starve.

LittleJennyRobyn · 07/06/2012 23:06

cats will be fine for tonight.

One of mine will eat anything, Bread & butter, toast, cheese, scrambled egg, crisps, chocolate, curry, rice, pizza, chips, cereal (especially weetabix), potato in any form, ice cream, trifle......the list goes on!

Another one of mine likes potato peelings and will lick them until his heart's content!!!

All 3 of mine tolerate milk very well....they love it

suzikettles · 07/06/2012 23:13

For future reference, keep some vv cheap dry cat food to hand for these sorts of emergencies.

You only need to buy it once because the cat will take one look at it, turn up her nose in disgust and sulk in the corner for the rest of the night (ime).

Voila, from "feed me NOW" to fussy feline princess in 30 seconds flat.

(They won't starve btw)

Cathycomehome · 08/06/2012 00:24

Pink wafer biscuits, a guilty pleaure to me, are like manna from heaven to one of my cats. He stole the ones I definitely wasn't hiding so I could eat them all to myself from my handbag once.

Empusa · 08/06/2012 01:13

My cat used to have a thing for malibu and coke or champagne.

I hasten to add, we did not actually deliberately give her any, I made the mistake of looking away from my glass of malibu and coke once, only to turn round and find my cat with her head fully in the glass. The champagne was after a party, and we found she'd stolen the champagne corks (which we thought were in the bin) and was licking them. It does explain a lot..

AdoraBell · 08/06/2012 01:15

My dogs haven't starved, or tried to eat me, if they've missed a meal. As long as you feed them tomorrow I doubt they'll leave home.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 08/06/2012 01:22

Our cat has a thing for pepperoni Hmm and tomato based canned products...licking a can of beans out is his equivalent of greggs sausage roll fois gras and champagne :o

Op they'll be fine!!

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 08/06/2012 01:59

My cat's addicted to sweetcorn .

MrsRhettButler · 08/06/2012 02:09

I was gonna come on and say my old cat loved brandy and Coke! Empusa beat me to it with her fancy Malibu. .... Grin

And yeah, it wont fill their little stomachs but it might make them forget their hunger.. ...
