Have name changed...

A friend is having a babyshower for her daughter, I received an invite but really don't want to go for the following reasons:
*I don't really agree with them - I think babies should be celebrated once they're here

  • The party is in the function room of a pub!!
  • All are invited - it's not a small affair, rather a massive big deal with men, women and kids invited to 'party'
  • There is a GIFT LIST
  • The babies parents are skint yet the mother has spent a fortune on table decorations etc

Would you go / adhere to the gift list or bow out??

Cross posted with monkey there. I think when there are so many hand-me-downs and nearly new sales doing the rounds, it's hard for grandmothers etc to resist buying stuff before the due date!

at the very least you HAVE to buy a car seat to take em home from hospital in and a few nappies and vests/gros

even being cautious you wouldn't come home from a still birth with NO signs that there "should" be a baby there, and are you sure you'ld even want to?, I don't know how I'ld feel, I am SPECULATING that I think it is possible that I would want some evidence that the little thing had existed if even for a short time, even if that evidence hurt too
